Apparently we are according to the nimrods at AFL House

THE AFL wishes to advise of match start time changes to two games in Round Eight of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

2021 TOYOTA AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON – ROUND EIGHT

Saturday, May 8
Gold Coast SUNS vs. St Kilda
Metricon Stadium
1:45pm AEST (formerly 2:10pm AEST)

Saturday, May 8
GWS GIANTS vs. Essendon
GIANTS Stadium
2:10pm AEST (formerly 1:45pm AEST)

The decision to swap start times for these matches was made to ensure the Essendon Football Club was able to travel by charter flight in and out of NSW on the same day, Saturday May 8, minimising risk for the club and the broader competition.

Each game will be broadcast live via Foxtel and Kayo, with the Seven Network in Queensland and New South Wales broadcasting each game, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Swans AFL team will travel by charter flight to Melbourne tonight ahead of their Round Eight match against Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday, May 8.

The Swans’ VFL team will not travel to Melbourne this weekend with their match against the Casey Demons scheduled for Sunday, May 9 to be postponed. The VFL match will be rescheduled and more information will be provided next week.

The AFL continues to closely the monitor the situation and will be led by the advice of respective governments and public health officials.

The competition will continue to remain adaptable as we navigate the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and the AFL thanks its Clubs, players and the AFLPA, venues, governments, and supporters for their understanding.

I often visit the opposition board before a game. Their opinions on us v them, player match up, strengths and weaknesses and how that plays out can be entertaining.

Not so interesting this week. Their injuries and team selection isn't about matching us, but about getting a team on the park.

There's a very high chance it's like last week - we go out, take control and the game is never in doubt.

It's a great problem, too many fit backman. For me it's Lester whom missis out this week and Darcy comes in. I just think we need the speed and Madden is the guy we should get games into with Answerth injured, maybe Madden takes over it wasn't a bad debut. Yes we could rest Birtchell but he offers more than Lester with his direction/leadership back there. Andrews, Rich and Adams are certainties. Lester is Mr Dependable, plays structures and processes to the letter but just ONCE a game tends to have a little brain fart, he will try to toe poke a ball, miss a handball target or kick to an opposition player. Gardnier is a bit tougher, ruthless, white line fever, and slightly more dependable. Great problem to have with Payne still to make it too the 'fit' list.

Personally I think Lester is just a better player than Gardiner, and has been for a couple of years.

I don't really agree that Gardiner is tougher or more dependable. He's physically stronger, and he probably still has a bit more upside. That's about all I can think of in Darcy's favour.

One moment in our season that doesn't get recalled as often as it should is Lester's mark at half back in the last minute against Collingwood, that eventually led to Bailey's goal. That was a flat, tumbling kick from Grundy. It had to be marked, and the only way that was going to happen is if a defender got their positioning absolutely perfect. That's Lester and not Gardiner. Being exactly where you need to be doing exactly what you need to do isn't exciting, but it wins games.

I hope those Lions attending the game on Sunday give the "Umbrella Man" a decent welcome back.

I'm nervous about this "should win" one. One of the first ones we've come up against this season. Hope the boys are switched on from the first bounce.
