Changes next week

Out: Grimes inj, Helbig and Maybe Post
In: Miller, White, maybe Astbury

Miller is straight back in, Post was terrible tonight, White if fit in for Helbig
Post either stays in and takes Grimes role or they bring in Astbury ( I'd rather Thursfield but he is injured??)

If white ain't fit I'd rather they bring in Morton or Hislop off the rookie list to play forward

Batch, Rance, Houli
Newman, McGuane , Thursty/Post/Astbury
Grigg, Cotch, lids
White/Morton Miller , conca
King, Jack, TV
Browne, Jacko , Martin
Foley, Tuck , Nahas - Farmer sub

All right well after a great win I decided I'd get the ball rolling with a review as even though I enjoyed well the efforts of the boys tonight, there are a number of interesting things to come out of it.

Positives:

-Addressed slow first quarters. From an utterly biased point of view, I loved our orchestrated, Sydney-style flooding of the stoppages and miserly approach to the first quarter as a direct response to last week. Was great to see, we went up by a point and were always going to let the game open up from there.

- Defensive efforts. The spirit, desperation and smarts from our defenders was well up this week. Took on their talls and did very, very well. Rance outstanding.

- Continued output from secondary forward options. Jack with his 4 (makes it a full month of 4 goal games I think?) but King, Vickery and Nahas also great.

- Trent Cotchin. Amazing. The amount of Dons fans going berserk at the lack of a tag made me grin wider and wider.

- Lids on the wing. The sooner Batchelor becomes our number one rebounder, the better.

- Andrew Browne. Surprised me with his output, ruck work and endeavour. Won the ball, fought hard and contributed. Give the lad another game...would like to see him kick the ball once or twice though.

Negatives:

- Clearances: a massive one. We had 28 to their 50 even though they were missing their two best in that area and Cotchin was firing. Trent had no support in the clinches tonight.

- Non-contributors. Players that seemed to drag us down tonight were Post, Tuck, Helbig, Grigg and to a lesser extent Farmer. Will be wanting better output from these guys, can't be carrying players even when we win.

Changes:

I'd probably be conservative and go with

OUT: Post, Farmer, Grimes (inj.)

IN: Miller, White, Astbury.

Farmer a tad unfair as he was the sub but I just don't see any great strengths in his game at all. Will not be happy to gift Post games if he provides less than half of what Miller does. Will be happy to see White back at half forward, and Helbig as the sub (wasn't very happy with him tonight). Tuck and Grigg to get another crack despite poor output because we won, if Tucky doesn't get his standard bunch of clearances next week, it might be goodbye for some time.

dont think millar will b in next week post added to a ruck division that worked, he played his role and he plays next week without a dought.

Re: Changes next week

I disagree, from what I saw, there were many players who were plain out terrible.

Shane Tuck - should be dropped, did not see any bit of intensity from him, never went hard at the ball. If he is given an opportunity in the 1sts he should utilize it. White in, if he is not recovered, then Webberley.

Mitch Farmer - Never really had much of an impact on the game, as a substitute coming on late in the game, he should be one of the most effective. Drop him for Miller.

Grimes inj - If Thursfield is available, pick him, however, from what I have heard he is injured aswell. Inc Astbury.

In my opinion, give Post another week, he shows huge potential, just didn't put it to work.

Players who if not for recent form, should be dropped from THAT game.

Shaun Grigg - pulled a Shane Edwards vs Collingwood, had a fewer shocker possies, gave away a few easy goals that were important.

Re: Changes next week

Only 1 change for next week

OUT: GRIMES (inj)

IN: ASTBURY OR GOURDIS ................... Depends on who has a better game for coburg.

Helbig,Post .................. Must give these kids a chance to get used to the speed of the game & it was a pretty intens and fast game last night.

Re: Changes next week

Out: Grimes, Post(although Post could prob use another week in the team)

In : Miller, Webberly

Re: Changes next week

Outs: grigg- couldn't trust himself to kick the footy, something mental to be worked on and get his confidence back

Post- just has nothing its a shame, wod like to see him delisted! Not trying to stir the post hypers on bigfooty but it's my opinion and that it's he won't be any good!

Grimes injured

In: griffiths ready yet? White if fit and ready! Nit sure who else at the moment!

Not sure Post and Farmer should go out after one game (a good win). Grimes (inj) and maybe Helbig out. Not sure who comes in for Grimes with Moore and Thursfield unavailable. Has Gourdis done anything? Not from what I've heard, so who does that leave?

agree grimes out - how about miller in

grigg well beaten playing on those small fwds could be in danger too. white in

agree about our backline keeping the score down that was great. grigg not good but the other 5 were. Even mcguane.

We were playing a top 4 team and I didn't even expect to win. So I'm not too worried about not having 22 winning players.

With Watson out of their team it did even it up and i'm most impressed that the team took advantage of that.

I'm loving our range of goal kicking options, JR even playing up the field a bit.

A little harsh on Helbig and a bit generous to Post and Grigg. (grigg had a shocker tonight). But it was a good win so no changes for me unless someone has an absolute blinder in the 2s.

Outs:
Grimes (Injury, he played a great game),
Helbig(He's still not ready, love the way he goes about it, but is so skinny)

Possible Outs:
Post (Apart from add a second dimension to our ruck he did nothing)
Farmer (He was sub, that's his excuse)

In:
Astbury/Gourdis (Whichever is playing better in the ressies
Webberley(The kid has been in the bests almost every week)

Possible In's
Miller (If he's fit)
Anyone else who plays well at coburb

Agree with the OP. Add my thoughts:

Positives
- Defensive efforts: to add to the OP, when time the ball was on the ground or in dispute I saw EVERY player contest the footy with 100% commitment and throw their head and body into the contest. These blokes want to win the 50/50s more and this is a self fulfilling desire.
- Rance may lack elite decision making but he is inspirational in the one on one contests.
- Vickery. Everyone is talking up his goals, but he was involved in a passage of play on the members wing where he was outnumbered 2 to 1 but pressured the essendon player into a spill, then got it at ground level, handballed up to a tiger out the back, then got up and ran forward to receive the handball voer the top and kicked it inside 50. Just awesome from a 6'6".

Negatives
- Post, competed and presented but just hurried a bit with nerves.

Out: Grimes/Tuck

In: Astbury or Goo/Webberley

Tuck looked like a witches hat out there all night.

Post and Farmer had to jump from the Burgers pace to high tensity AFL. Give them a few weeks to settle.

Re: Changes next week

We got smashed in the clearances , I wouldn't say Post added anything to the ruck. If post stays in the side he can go back and take grimes role.

Miller came off a really good game v the dogs, has worked hard and has earnt his chance and has played well , he comes straight in.

The other option I would like to see if miller wasn't to play , is add Gus, he and Brown could rotate between a FP and Ruck, not many sides these days apart from the bombers are playing two genuine ruckman.

I really am staggered by the Post love on here, IMO has never shown anything at this level, he is a poor shot for goal and last night made some bad errors, Jay Schulz everybodys favorite wipping boy was miles ahead of Post. I'd love to see post turn himself into a regular for our side but I just don't think he has the tools to make it. Look at it this way, he was playing millers role, how many goals did he feed off? How many contests did he create? He didn't hurt the score board and there was no physical presence

Re: Changes next week

Miller comes straight back in. The only thing saving Post is Grimes out injured and the brains trust giving him a leg up in confidence by retaining him in the 1s.
Apart from that he was out of his depth last night. Tuck looks to have missed the bus now for sure and certain...he will catch the same one Thurst is gunna catch..;)

Re: Changes next week

Just on Post he is a 20 yr old KPP his never going to set the world on fire. Leave him in because you get glimpses of his potential when he takes those big contested pack marks. Plucked quite a few tonight and was unlucky not to get awarded one on the goal line.

IMO Gourdis comes in for Grimes.

Harsh on Farmer he only played a quarter and I thought he was insturemental in a couple of goals.

Re: Changes next week

We should not keep post in just because of his age, for far to long our club has handed games out, now is the time for every player on our list to earn them. Grimes and Miller earnt theirs , Morton and Astbury were not earning there's and they where out. Was surprised farmer got a call up but he plays a different role to Webberley and with White and Nason out i can see why Farmer came in.

Our 2nds are doing jack all and on form you would have to say only JW and Hislop over the past few weeks are the guys bashing down the door

Re: Changes next week

Positives:
- We didn't get jumped in the first quarter, in fact I think we won our first 1 for the year.
- We laid 83 tackles for the night, we need to continue with that sort of intensity.
- Our KPD stood up after being exposed a little last week.
- Nahas stodd up to a heavy tag and was able to still contribute.
- Jack was pretty well held again yet we still kicked 16 goals again.
- When threatened in the last quarter we stood up to it, in previous years we would have folded.
- Deledio spent most of the game in the midfield. Drifted to the backline when needed to give them a chop out as well. Exactly what we need him to do.
- Vickery taking another big step forward.
- Our disposal efficiency was 76% despite the high pressure, good sign for the future when we're playing finals, that the skills don't seem to drop off.

Negatives:
- Browne won 24 hitouts and we won 39 for the game but we lost the clearances 28-54, despite having arguably our best clearance players in the middle all game. Can't blame Graham for it this week so there must be something wrong at ground level.
- As good as the win was, the Bombers were missing a few key players and personally I would like to see us beat them again when they are closer to full strength. Still going to enjoy the win because of the way we won.

Changes:
Out: Grimes
In: Astbury

Don't see the need to make wholesale changes. As for Post played a similar role to what Miller would have played. Had 12 disposals 5 marks(2 contested) & 5 hitouts. While Miller has been good, Post gives us more flexibility in that he can take a turn in the ruck and still contribute up forward.

You don't drop Post and Browne. First game back, young kids they will get better by the game.

Out: Grigg, Helbig, Grimes(inj)
In: Webberley, Astbury, Edwards(if fit)

I really didn't think Post provided much. Was basically gifted a game after not dominating in the 2nds, didn't earn his spot. Miller in for him unless he goes back to cover Grimes.

As for 'he's only 20, he's young'...thats fine, some players take longer than others. But let him have a couple of great games at Coburg before selecting him?

Tackles stat can be exaggerated by our flooding the ball in the 1st...but yes, its a testament to our hunger. Disposal efficicency again great to see. I think a few players had poor games and should be dropped accordingly. Post provided less than half of what Miller has.
