Young wouldn't take Worner's role in the backline. He would take McVee's role. Imagine that, Clarke and Young distributing from half back. But, as others have said, Young is more likely to play more minutes forward.

I really think it'd be the biggest possible upgrade though. Replacing Worner with young is massive for the quality down there and it's not like you cant put him on ball if needed.

The midfield is humming and Bolton clearly plays his best footy mid first then forward. I'd hate to lose his burst which the midfield sorely needs or Reid's creativity
Counter point, Brayshaw and Serong really miss that big bodied mid to protect them. With Darcy's low TOG, Jackson isn't there to play that role. Johno and Ras aren't the same quality as Young. When we play teams like Dogs, Brisbane and Gold Coast, there is a massive risk of our smaller mids being exposed. There is room to split Young between midfield/forward while keeping Bolton and Reid on ball.

I'd say Murray would be the replacement for Scerri. Scerri 1st game was excellent but only 19yo probably hasn't learnt consistency at AFL level so it's either you stick with him to ride the ups and downs or give him a break to get his confidence up at Peel.

Murray only 8 possessions for Peel but he did end up with 2 second half goals. The last one sealing the win coming from running hard to the square to mark a ball coming over his shoulder. Given the looks he had in the pre-season he seems to be the most likely.

He is going to be 23 this year...

Yeah ok. I had thought he was older then someone here after his AFL debut mentioned he was 19yo and several bios have him at 19yo (eg Fremantle AFL profile and wikipedia have him born in 2006), Footywire and Draft Guru have him at 22yo born in 2003)

Articles refer to him as an U18's player with Strathmore in 2024 and as a 19yo playing with the Bullants in 2025.

Worner, Wagner, Omeara are probably the 3 that Young should replace. Each does a fair bit of defensive running, that most fans don't appreciate myself included. I think you would only see it live.

Young for OMeara is the change I would make. No idea who comes out for Frederick in a few weeks. Some would say Scerri but I would prefer that spot was held by a small forward and Frederick was used on the Wing instead of Worner.

I don't think there is a big rush to bring anyone in and would prefer we gave everyone an extra week at the moment to ensure they are cherry ripe.

Does this happen at all? In struggling clubs, are players rushed back while successful clubs are not rushed, and give there players 1 more week to recover.

Geelong gave Danger and Jezza an “extra week” and got pumped by GC then managed to beat us the week later.

He’s taken over the “Bailey Banfield Cat 10” position.
And how. I don’t mind Worner - tough, silly brave, plainly very driven - but at least once a game he will do some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen on the paddock. It is as though his brain just turns off momentarily. Spectacular.

Hmmmm ... Taberner and Logue say, hold my beer.

Just about every player has a clanger each game. Luke, Caleb, Josh, Andy, Pat, Murphy and Shai average 3+ ****-ups a game
According to AFL Tables:
  • Nick Daicos averages 3.94 clangers a game across his career, with the number of clangers increasing from his first season of 3.5 clangers a match to current season (and last season) being 4.33 clangers a match.
  • Will Ashcroft averages 2.57 clangers over his career but in recent seasons he has jumped up from around low 2s to 3.67 clangers this season.

Cox for Darcy is my definitive change i'd love to see

Aside from that, would love a JOM --> NOD or a Scerri for Murray/NOD

Not all clangers are equal. It is a pretty useless statistic unless expressed as a % of total disposals and the unquantifiable degree of difficulty of the disposal PLUS the negative consequences of the clanger. Once we gat all those sorted we can meaningfully discuss.

All of those players give us a lot though. What does Worner actually achieve to balance out his clangers? He is a decent defender but having him in the team over Walker means Jordan Clark is having to play more defensively.

We are sacrificing Clark's offensive game so you would want a lot more than what we are getting in return.

They hey are good examples. Taberner had regular brain farts. Where he would make a completely insane decision that goes against all common-sense. I remember him playing on in the goal square about 2metres out against Brisbane.

Worner I really like. I guess it could be called a brain fart but seems more like his brain just stops working. Against Richmond he just ran at a Richmond player and then stopped like an AI bot malfunction. On Friday he hit up Tilthorpe all by himself, with Freo players available but not where the kick went.

What I do like is that he puts himself in harms way and also takes some good intercept marks. He had one on the weekend that wasn’t paid and there was a clear arm chop. He was quite animated with the umpire and I replayed it and he was right to argue that.

Let’s hope he can eliminate these brain snaps. It seems to happen when he holds onto the ball just that little bit too long. First option mentality for Worner.

I challenge everyone to watch Worners highlights of each game, the guy does SO much in defensive desperation that you have to appreciate that I don't think get recognised enough here. Definitely worth a cat 5 clanger a game but he's a dog hungry defender imo and wouldn't be in my first 3 out of the team

Who would be then?

Chances are Naicos won't play????
If his calf were bad enough for a last minute discharge it's not likely to be up within a week.
I hope he plays - I think we have them covered anyway.

He'll play, not in our luck for him to be out

As much as Daicos missing out would be good for us there's a big part of me that would rather us play with him in for Collingwood, the only way to know if your team is up there with the best is to play against the best.

Daicos is arguably the best player in the competition, no better test for our midfield. But we've also beaten them with Daicos before.
