Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Firstly and most importantly, Stk are now in lockstep with NWM’s deal to compete for a flag.

To win a flag in the next two seasons, we will need to defeat Geelong.

It will be much more difficult to defeat Geelong if we do you an enormous favour and fill your seemingly last remaining list gap.

Second, Marshall is contracted and it’s now common knowledge he has been heavily front ended and is on let’s say 1/2 rate ~ 450-500k but could easily be less. This is therefore an integral part of our strategy to retain him on lower salary.

So in my mind there’s no world where we release him from his contract.

Having said that, what would make us move? Well, Geelong would have to be significantly worse off in 2-3 years or we would need to be significantly better right away.

Does Geelong’s P17 this year meet that? No.

What about P17 + F1 (say P17)? Well, no but obviously closer. Still not making you bad enough off when we’ll need to beat you and us better off right away.

Okay, here are the options in order of our preference.

1. No trade.

2. Max Holmes

3. 2025 P17 + 2026 F1 (17) + 2027 F1 (17)

Holmes adequately makes you worse and us better.

Three late firsts probably makes you worse off enough when we’re competing for a shot at it. Same as what you paid for an uncontracted Cameron and what you demanded for a contracted Tim Kelly so laugh away if you want but we set the terms.

Anything else is an absolute waste of breath.

Max Holmes or 3 first rounders for Rowan Marshall.

If you're going to troll, at least put some effort in.

You are going to be extremely disappointed come trade week if they are your expectations.

I'm happy to include Holmes in the deal if you add NWM alongside Marshall. It's about as ridiculous as your suggestions.

What in the world have i just read.

No trade then 🤌🏼

Hilarious - enjoy keeping a disgruntled player on $800k+ when you're paying someone more than double his salary to take his job. I'm sure that won't create any issues at all.

If you read between the lines you'll see the deal is almost done already. St Kilda will spin it as "respecting the wishes of a loyal clubman" and "freeing up salary cap for our targets." I could write their press release along those lines now.

This is what will happen

St.Kilda give: Rowan Marshall
St.Kilda get: 2025 Geelong 1st round pick

He’s only on 450-500k if you’d read the post properly. I will thoroughly enjoy retaining him.

Enjoy Conway, Stanley and Edwards - oh and the SA u18 back up ruckman to Alex Dodson who you bizarrely drafted 1 selection before him.

Of all the teams you could talk smack about talking about drafting and development and you pick Geelong?

As a Saints fan…

Surely this is a troll? 😆🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks for the reminder that you've already traded us one premiership ruckman, hope RoMa can make it two :thumbsu:

The real driver here is in the sentence about Holmes leaving "adequately" making us worse.

It's not about a fair trade, it's about taking the opportunity for punishing Geelong for hurting feelings

Leek Aleer trade request

Liam Ryan trade request

Rowan Marshall and Chris Scott publicly meeting

Saints publicly expressing interest in Flanders, not fake or a rumour

Saints publicly expressing interest in Mackenzie, not fake or a rumour

None of these are my assumptions or jumping to conclusions, these things are happening publicly and in real time? The Saints are announcing it out loud. I don’t need to “jump to conclusions”

Would be weird to publicly announce something and then do absolutely zero about it. What is the end game?
There may be lesser players being traded out? We will need to free up list spots so someone has to make way.

Could be Steele, Butler, Byrnes, Clark, Marshall, Heath etc.

Gut feel is that our first will be traded ONLY for a top player.

Aleer & Ryan won't cost much. They are the only 2 we need to trade for at this stage. TDK and Sos are free agents.

The club may move on Marshall if they believe the pick can be used to facilitate a mjaor trade and keep our first pick.

Lots to play out.

It's not bizarre we drafted Molier because Molier isn't a ruck.

Look, I don't know where Geelong will be next year, but StKilda finished this year with 9 wins and 14 losses. It's not impossible, but it is very unlikely, that they will manage to get that up to the 16/17 win mark within just two seasons.

Okay, here are the options in order of our preference.

1. No trade.

... the idea that Max Holmes is a worse outcome than keeping Rowan Marshall as second ruckman absolutely beggars belief.

Front loaded. Probably on half that now.

What is the proposal going to be in your eyes if Rowan is leaving?

It goes back to my first point. If Saints go for all of the interested candidates eg Flanders, CMac, Ryan, Aleer and THEN also get Fincher through bid match what is the plan?

Is that enough? Surely not to get it all done? How do they do it?

I’m genuinely excited to see what they do because it’s good watching teams be aggressive and go after it with a plan rather than sitting back and accepting where they are at.
Ryan will get done for an F2.

Aleer - according to Twomey on Gettable will get done for a late pick or even via PSD.

TDK & JSoS are free agency.

So Marshall can only go if it unlocks either Flanders or Cmac. Neither club is going to accept Geelongs first. So it doesn’t help us.

Does your first and second rounder unlock Flanders as a points based trade? Maybe.

But if it doesn’t, you will probably need to target that Sydney pick as they will need points for their own academy players.

Has that been reported anywhere?

In any case, we will presumably be offering him $800k or so which is about right for a player of his calibre, so he has multiple reasons to seek a move.

The most notable of those being that we will be guaranteeing him the number one ruck role.

Was reported in the last week that he had a deal that we have significantly front ended his deal and there isn’t a lot left in his final 2 years.
