Are we discussing how Geelong pays an 800k contract though? Because 800k ain't that much nowadays with the new cap.Exactly

the point I'm making here hypothetically is that if Marshall has 2 years @800k for a total of 1.6 million. If Geelong offers 1.6 million over 4 years that pays out the contract. Marshall does not take that contract 99 out of 100. The one time he does he's been chloroformed and there are a set of pliers on his nuts.times Are we discussing how Geelong pays an 800k contract though? No there's a long post detailing exactly that scenario on the last page.I'm pretty certain someone is misreading someone here

Look either way, details aside he ain't playing for free but his contract shouldn't be an obstacle to most clubs. No there's a long post detailing exactly that scenario on the last page.
He was owed 1.6m over two and we paid him something like 2.8m over 4. He still got the money he was owed.
I can't remember the contract specifics but more or less he got paid the gcs money in the first two years and is now on basically normal money for a best 22 player.Amazing to hear Bowes is on that kind of money

Has it been a success? We'd have liked more from both him and Clark ideally
Yeah feels that way but the salary cap is higher now. Can't remember which journo went through the cats list but he worked out by elimination that something like the 18 of our starting 22 not on draftee wages average 500kpa. 600k doesn't get you that far in 2022.Even $600k pa seems outrageous but we’ve just offered TDK $2.5m pa so what do I know
That is a crazy concept because with your numbers Marshall plays for 2 years on no pay and no player will do that. He is better staying with St Kilda.
There's no guarantee you're going to win shit. He's not better off staying unless he doesnt want to win anything before he retires.
There's no guarantees anywhere. Why would we all bother caring so much about footy if there was? There's no guarantee you're going to win shit.
Come to think of it is can think of two examples of the previous scenario given, though neither apply here.No there's a long post detailing exactly that scenario on the last page.

If he wants extra security with money you could turn that into 2M over 4 years and do similar.
It’s not that crazy a concept

You play the game of probabilities though, and it would be fair to say Geelong look more likely to compete for a premiership over St Kilda within the next few years.
That doesn't guarantee Geelong anything, nor does it guarantee St Kilda won't compete. It's just a prediction based on what we know right now.
Do you ever get tired of just looking like a deranged nuffie regarding the GFC in every thread, or is it more second nature by now?

You don't have to be a data analyst to figure that one out. There's no guarantees anywhere. Why would we all bother caring so much about footy if there was?

The groundwork is done, it'll come down to cost now. In my opinion, the three options for the Cats will be:
A) Cats 2025 1st.
B) Cats 2026 1st.
C) Sam DeKoning.
I understand SDK is signed, but things change and he may have an interest playing with his brother.
Guaranteed finals? Sounds like you're on board

Would be negligent on our part to trade futuresThe only option there is A.
We need an elite midfielder more than a ruckman. Elite midfielders are OOC next season so we won't be putting our future first into the mix.
We are not trading a 24yo versatile KPP for a 29yo ruckman.
Marshall is in the he would be nice basket but we wouldn't pay through the nose for him.

Your first rounder is likely going to be pushed out into the 20s, give or take a few ladder positions. That seems roughly what his value would be to you.Sdk isn't happening.
Option A is ok although i think it's overs.
