Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Despite being contracted until 2027, rumours are circulating that he may want out/be surplus to requirements if TDK lands at the Saints (which almost looks like a formality now).

Whilst I haven't been following him too closely, I believe his form in 2025 has been a little inconsistent compared to what his supreme best can be. Think he may have had a niggling injury or 2 as well, which would have played a part I'm sure. If I am off the ball with these comments, sorry and please correct me.

Regardless, at 29, he is obviously still in the top few ruckmen in the game and surely has more than a few great years ahead of him one would think.

Would be an absolutely perfect additon for a number of clubs including Geelong who seem to have recurring ruck nightmares.

If he was to leave, what do you think he would be worth in term of draft picks on the open market? What would appease the Saints?

I kind of think it would be a 3 way trade of sorts but id expect St Kildas want would be to trade with Geelong in a deal that would be basically Pick 14 + Leek Aleer/some form of player for Marshall. Maybe a deal that ends up as a way to get Miles Bergman across without influencing anything else

I think we'd do that in a heartbeat personally. I somehow think they would want more, or a significantly higher pick at least.

Agree he would likely cost a lot. Could be the key to a Premiership for some clubs.

He’s definitely been playing injured a lot this year (and has at times in the last couple of years as well), and also went into the season very underdone.

Assuming we land TDK, there would have to be a huge chance we’d move him on- for the right deal- especially if Keeler keeps up anything like what he showed on the weekend, up forward, and Max finishes off the year OK.

With Keeler going into his 4th year next year, you’d be loathe to have to send him back to the VFL, if he’s continuing to progress well, and you obviously wouldn’t want to play all of Max, Ro, Keeler, Sharman and Owens in the same forward line, so something would have to give there.

So I think Ro would be very gettable if all that plays out. And he’d be a great get for plenty of teams.

Geelong an obvious one, especially as he’s from down that way-ish.

I could see that happening but I personally think it's overs for a 30yo. I'm scarred by our experience of constantly trading in or drafting rucks and having them be injured.

No, they should just keep Marshall and forget TDK. I think they're so desperate to land a big fish that they'll take who they can get even if it's doesnt make much sense

It can work if they are flexible and one is a good forward (maybe marshall).
It didn't work at melb as Grundy is a useless fwd and it could work at freo but won't as Darcy is always injured.

If your club is unwilling to pay even close to fair price then you wont be in the conversation.

Marshall and Ryder worked terrifically well together (once Ryder got going after a slow start our winning ratio increased significantly when they both played together- with Ro playing mostly forward and Ryder rucking, which I imagine is what would happen if he plays with TDK).

1- TDK is a few years younger.
2- TDK will only cost cap space, whereas if we trade Roma, we’ll get a very decent pick/s or player for him.

I dare say we would have shaken all those trees and no-one fell out.

Even Finn Callaghan knocked back a reported $1.8mil x 10 or whatever.

Everyone can get so rich without needing to change clubs now that the only genuinely elite types who will leave clubs will basically be ones who need to leave for personal reasons, or if their club is terrible, and if they want to come to Vic they’ll probably be happy to take less money to go to a club here in contention.

It’s very very difficult to get serious guns if you’re not in contention, or a “big club”, playing at the MCG.
