Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

If your club is unwilling to pay even close to fair price then you wont be in the conversation.
Marshall like Reid and Butters is not Bailey Smith

That's fine I have no problems with that.

Despite being contracted until 2027, rumours are circulating that he may want out/be surplus to requirements if TDK lands at the Saints (which almost looks like a formality now).

Whilst I haven't been following him too closely, I believe his form in 2025 has been a little inconsistent compared to what his supreme best can be. Think he may have had a niggling injury or 2 as well, which would have played a part I'm sure. If I am off the ball with these comments, sorry and please correct me.

Regardless, at 29, he is obviously still in the top few ruckmen in the game and surely has more than a few great years ahead of him one would think.

Would be an absolutely perfect additon for a number of clubs including Geelong who seem to have recurring ruck nightmares.

If he was to leave, what do you think he would be worth in term of draft picks on the open market? What would appease the Saints?
A Top ten pick

It's very American style if it all comes off and I'm all for it. TDK for nothing but capspace which they have too much of and then let Marshall leave for high end draft capital.

Literally get a younger ruck and draft picks for nothing but capspace.

You're right and good points. It seems that many have overlooked the added potential draft pick benefit/s the Saints may receive in all this. Many are seemingly talking like it might just be TDK in and Marshall out. The Saints know what they are doing.

I think a pick of 8-12 is potentially fair. Don't know how we would get such a pick though, unless we in some way get SDK involved in all this (which I doubt would happen).
Andrew Mackie will probably just ring Gold Coast and they will more than likely just give Geelong what ever they need for a packet of chips or peanuts.

His a elite athlete one of the fittest most durable players in the competition

He is but our record keeping rucks on the park is terrible so I wouldn't go there with anyone that age.

SOS record as a list manager indicates he doesn't know what he's doing.

Don't want to lose Ro but realistically it's dumb to have him and TDK probably chewing up 2.6mil per year, when having both of them in the team wouldn't be much better than having one of them. Neither are great forwards, they're both number one rucks.

Geelong's first pick seems about right in terms of trade cost. He'll probably win them a couple of flags and play til he's 35 while TDK struggles to get on the park for us on the sport's biggest contract...

So a pick somewhere in the 20s then? I'm sure we would absolutely jump at that. That's what Sam McClure thinks too, whereas Mitch Cleary thinks pick 16 is about right. Maybe I am over valuing him a little, but if he fully passes all medical concerns, I seriously wouldn't mind even giving around pick 10 (getting it is another q) as I genuinely believe he could hold the key to 1 or more flags moving forward. That's how highly I rate him.

If cats tick off on his medical then I would be fine giving up our first for him

I think Marshall has the marking ability to be dangerous up forward has shown it in short glimpses, i would like to try the both of them for at least a full season.

I don’t see much chance of that happening his contracted and worth a fair bit more then a pick in the twenties, absolute lowest we should take is a pick in the 10-15 range, Geelong will have to try and trade up in the order

I'd say dangerous in short glimpses is right. He can sneak forward and take a grab but he never had any real success as a forward/ruck when Ryder was playing. Ro only kicked 26 goals out of 53 games while we had Ryder. Granted, Paddy missed quite a few through injury but he played 36 games where Marshall would have been spending at least half of the game up forward.

A fit Marshall gets you 20 disposals, 26 hitouts, 5 marks and 5 clearances per game as the number one ruck. At a 50/35/15 forward/ruck/bench split, you're probably looking at 12 disposals, 10 hitouts, 1 goal, 3 marks, 2 clearances per game.

In the year when Ryder came 8th in our B&F Marshall came 4th.

And he’s become a much better player since then.

I wouldn't put too much weight on the B&F results from 2020. Bizarre shortened season with short games played out of hubs with no crowd. Butler finished 2nd, Howard 3rd with Coffield, Jones and Clark in the top 10 as well. Ryder also missed 5 games so Marshall solo rucked for more than a quarter of that season.

I didnt say thats what I think Geelong is prepared to pay, thats just what hes worth

I dont think Reid or Butters come into it lol, surely you guys would be making moves to get more draft capital for next year if you think youre a chance at Reid or Butters.
Reid and Butters arent Bailey Smith
You don't need to make moves to get draft capital, it gets given to you for free every year

Getting to that from what we have seems pretty reasonably achievable. Will be an interesting ruck merry go round this year

Marshall in my view would be in the top 5 ruckman going around.
But what value is he worth?
Turning 30 this year.
His Contracted.
Im not sure what picks his worth?

Late first at best but they wont trade him for that.

It depends on how good of a fit Marshall will be to whatever club and where that club is.

Geelong's value is different from Brisbane's who is different from Collingwood's
