Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

I posted this on the Saints list management thread, couldn’t be bothered re-writing it, here tis…

Geelong got picks 14, 24 and 37 plus a future first for Tim Kelly when they traded him to West Coast in 2019.

Our starting point needs to be high and hard, and if they don’t like it, too bad! ! I’d be demanding nothing less.

West Coast thought they were in the premiership window in 2019, and they’d identified Kelly as key to that success, so they were happy to dig deep to appease Geelong.

Based on that trade, I’d ask for SDK (or Humpty or Dempsey), their first round this year (pick 18) and a future first.

They’re wanting a proven ruck at the peak of his game, a bloke with several years left in him, a guy who has regularly featured in the top 5 or 6 of our B&F’s, with 2 years to run on his contract, (much of which has been prepaid), who they’ve identified as the missing link to their flag aspirations, ffs, if they want him, it’ll be costly.

I’m sure that’s what we’re thinking, hence Ross’s pre-warning a few weeks ago on TV - basically pony up or shut up!

We need to know what we’re doing and what we’re working with ASAP, so I’d put our demands to them formally on Monday, give them a very short window to respond, and if they can’t meet our demands then move on.

It’s us who are in the power position here, not Geelong FFS. Can you imagine what they’d be asking for if the situation was reversed?

The message needs to be loud and clear, we want him to stay, if you want him, dig deep boys, dig deep!!
Two first rounders plus SDK.

If you're going to troll, at least put some effort in. This is Z-tier stuff.

Rapidly approaching the “if the Dogs offer less than Ed Richards and Sam Darcy they’re not a serious football club” stage of this thread.

Warning to Cats supporters, these Saints boys are bonafide authorised St Kilda deal makers, so please be circumspect as your replies may be binding on the Geelong Football Club.

Here is is boys, to help you to stop deluding yourself that you’re giving a charitable lifeline to an an unwanted Saint.

Check it out from about the 12:30 mark.

Ross spells it out exactly…

“I would think contracted players are at your club UNTIL YOU DECIDE OTHERWISE.

As Chris Scott said to me, Kelly wanted to go home, he had children under duress, needed family support, but WE WERE’NT TRADING HIM.

They keep him for another 12 months and got 2 first round picks and got Cameron through the door.

He said to me, Ross, if you’re a club and you’re trading your contracted players, put up a shingle and say WE’RE NOT A VERY GOOD CLUB.

Everyone wants to model Geelong, and on this front, I’LL BE MODELLING GEELONG”

Could the message be any more explicit?

You think it was just a random stab? Really?

Geelong wouldn’t let Kelly go cheaply when his kids were sick, HENCE, the Saints will not be letting Ro go cheaply because he wants to bleach his hair and wear board shorts in fricken July!

Like I said earlier boys, you want contracted, much loved, primo players?, then start getting creative, you’re gonna need all the imagination you can muster!!! :)

Cos the pick is all he's worth, it's all Geelong have, you've signalled your intent to hardly play him and he wants to go. It's about right.

I'm all up for a bit of full-on haggling but trust me this one ain't it. We all know he's going, we all know why, and we all know for how much.

And I'm pretty sure that deep down you'll be disappointed if Geelong end up saying, "If you want to keep him that desperately that you want more than we can give, fine. Keep him."

And when he retires in 2028 you'll be wondering what may have been with another first round pick.

But yeah, let's go through the motions if we wish. Just wasting time.

I think the price in a reasonable draft is mid teens.

In this draft mid twenties won't cut it, no matter how often it's referred to as a 'first rounder'.

If one club puts it's foot down on players 'nominating' mid contract, I hope it's ours.

at least this mob can say he's looking for success with a straight face. :D

This may come as a shock, but CatToTheFuture isn't actually part of the Geelong list management team.
Lol, yeah ultimately we're all just complete nuffies on here living vicariously through our clubs.

Fighting pitched battles over hypothetical trades, often unhinged but with a sense of self righteousness.

Def the best time of year on bigfooty.

If go in dry means sensibly agree to his realistic trade value then agreed. Is a relatively easy and uncontroversial deal - 1st rounder and maybe later pick swap.

Deal done and well done to both clubs - we get instantly stronger to help win a flag and Saints get an unhappy player off their books.

Relatively? The only people on here making bitch noises about it are too young to drive and confusing AFL trading with selection in league of legends.

Seems a bit silly.
