Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Saints had to leave Aleer hanging with his proverbial swinging in the breeze, allegedly because they couldn't force Steele off their books.

Might change the "We can afford holding Marshall" narrative a bit.

Lesson learned, we may court the player, but we need to be able to manage the trade price.

Who cares about the pick, you're stuck with a ruck at CHF and a key back short. Even if the pick was wasted it's still worth it

Cats made at least a semi-reasonable offer, or at least a starting point. Saints seem to be publicly saying they don't want to trade him. Fair enough - you've got the right to hold him, we're not going to keep banging our heads on a brick wall.

Giants were happy to trade Aleer and weren't doing anything to stop you getting him. Their request was F2 which you could easily have stumped up. But you chose to walk away and leave him hanging.

I honestly think this is a bit of an error by the saints here. You could have got 18 and Aleer for Marshall, instead you'll clog your forward line with a spare ruck and and be left vulnerable down back.

Everyone attacking Saints for walking away from Aleer but Geelong are walking away from Marshall to get Curnow.

He's contracted and saints said no sale. Same as last year. What else do you want us to do?

Towards the end of the season, when asked about Tdk.
He stated that he was happy to play a role, whatever that looked like.
He's under contract, so he doe's what the St.Kilda fc tell him to do.
Not because Geelong fc offer him a ruck role with Blicavs & Sdk.

You do realize that TDK went to the Saints to be the No1 Ruck.
Marshall wants to go to the Cats to be the No1 Ruck. SDK & Blicavs a both pinch hitters.

No trade here the best outcome for the 16 other clubs. Cats don’t improve in the ruck and have to keep Blicavs there for big stints when he’s more valuable elsewhere and the Saints will waste at least half a season trying to wedge him into their forward line.

Respectfully i disagree.

Saints have asked for F1. You've offered this year's. Cats believe it's reasonable and saints disagree for a contracted and required player. Saints have a clear role and purpose for him next year.

Fact remains, cats pursued Marshall for 2 years, have no doubt offered a contract and had him ask for a trade and nominate cats and have walked away from the deal because you've found a shiny new toy.

Again - I have no problem with what cats have done here. Theyve got an opportunity to get a better player and have pivoted. That's what they are supposed to do. Not continue into a bad trade to 'save face'.

Its a big reason why Geelong have been so successful for so long. They operate in a what's best for Geelong mantra.

SDK in a trade is not impossible but a straight swap is a bit of a laugh
