Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Not with the dross that was being presented. Good, contracted players require a bit of effort.
I think that's the overarching theme of this years trade period, lifting quality contracted players requires overs, anything unders and the deal doesn't get done.

Deadly.

We made the right choice twice.
Blues were wanting far better players off us than Sydney.
And we offered a fair value price for Marshall.
That’s the thing like it or not a fair offer doesn’t get it done for a contracted player , I thought we overpaid a bit for Flanders but he fills a significant need for us so we just paid up , now your list has a large whole that could have been filled

This crap is so boring now.
Nonstop nonsense about Mackie.

2026 draft is the last uncompromised draft before Tassie. Combine that with it being stronger and you can see why clubs didn't want to part with picks from that year.
Don't want to part with picks, won't part with players but expect to turn up to the trade period and walk out with a good player from another club.

He has good track record but definitely didn’t do Geelong any favours this year, to not even have a back up plan in case Marshall didn’t happen is terrible list management,
Conway
Stanley
Blicavs
Edwards
Molier
Pike

SDK
Neale

Already 6 rucks and 2 who can play ruck on the list. Neale was drafted as a ruck.
If we can't get a decent one then no use wasting time with a state league journeyman.

Cool. He goes back to St.K and we move on.

If overs was what it took then clearly we weren't prepared to do it.
Made a GF without him and our weakness got a bit stronger.

Pike looks horrible.
Conway has major concerns over that ankle getting right. Currently still not ready to partake in preseason training.

Edwards is the skinniest player we have drafted since Peter Street. Definitely at least a year or two away and Neale looks set as a key forward.

I guess we can try again with De Koning as he wasn't any worse than Stanley or Blicavs as a no.1 ruckman. Perhaps if he can bulk up some more he may put it together as English did for the Bulldogs. Bit timid though.
I don't disagree. I was refuting the angle it is poor list management. We have 6-8 on the list, and all but 1 we drafted.

More than any other position drafting rucks is an inexact science that's hard to nail. It's why there's always a solid market for journeymen rucks. Always clubs that need a little extra.

Saints fans seem more emotional and worked up than Cats fans are. :$
Well, your mob came for a contracted player, & did your dirty tactics at the last minute like you always do.
Except it didn't work this time.
We most likely would of accepted the trade if it had been done earlier.
Except your mob dragged us & Ro through the mud.
Utter waste of time & energy.

Stanley is cooked and apart from Conway all the rest are part time rucks at best this is going to be a liability moving forward

Backup plan 1: Toby Conway
Backup plan 2: SDK/Blicavs/Neale three headed monster
Backup plan 3: Rhys Stanley

While getting a few games of seasoning into Mitch Edwards.

If none of those work, oh well... catch you in 12 months.

Might have been worth considering.

Mackie's done his club a disservice offering it so late in the day.
Maybe, but I suspect that the deal was dead in the water from about the same point that they went back on Aleer.

It feels like there was just a big readjustment at StKilda - that they were suddenly happy with what they had, minus Steele.

It’s not a backup plan taking players from other parts of the ground were they are actually needed, a back up plan would have been getting a pretty competent young ruckman in max heath for peanuts like Melbourne did , he should have come days ago with Geelongs absolute best offer which would have gave them time to find someone else instead of being arrogant thinking he would just get a deal done on the deadline

After Heath went, there wasn’t really another good AFL standard option.

really?

What opportunity is there for St Kilda to on trade that pick if it's offered at circa 7:32 pm on the last day of the trade period?

I gave you the Saints play by play the whole way through, Mackie misread it poorly.

Tbh i dont buy that argument. You weren't on trading the pick (at least not last night) bc no sensible club is trading a 2026 1st for a 2025 one (as most dont rate this draft) and no one would swap a 2026 1st for 2027 yet (especially until we have more certainty re tassie). And you weren't bringing in any more players. So the pick you would have held until at least draft night and probably til next year. So I cant see why getting it at 7.28pm was an issue.
I think Ross just wanted to keep marshall which is totally his right.
