Apparently Slater has got a *get out clause* in his contract end of 2009 and believe it or not the Rugby Union have found out and want to entice him to their code.

I really feel like swearing. Geez Cameron Smith saga has not been finalized and now we have got Union chasing Slater

What is it with these get out clauses in players contracts...they suck.

And why don't other nrl clubs/Rugby Union chase Manly players e.g. the Stewart Bros. afterall they won the premiership this year.

A little upset maybe that a NZ side proved it IS possible to win a world cup? Unlike the union variety.


Only 3 teams can legitimately win RU world cups, England managing to sneak one with a professional goal kicker is an aberation rather than something you would expect to happen regularly.


It's no more competitive than the RL world cup.

Agreed. Slater's just about been the best player in the series, threw one bad pass, but one of the NZ players threw the exact bad pass to the Aussies.

One man does not make a team. Aust. did not lose because Slater had an off night.....give NZ credit for their determination and skills even though I thought the Aussies may have gone into the game thinking they had it won, but I think NZ were the best team and deserved their win.

Slater being consistently picked at fullback/labelled the best FB in the game has long been a point of contention to me (As someone who used to play at fullback in junior reps I tend to follow the fb's more closely than other positions) - If they continue to pick him when a fully fit Brett Stewart is available, you'll see this is not a one off comment from me. His performance tonight gives weight to everything I think of Slater as a fullback.


Stewart is miles ahead of him and so are Karmichael & Gidley on the next rung down.



As for being the player of the series, sure, maybe, no. If the award is soley for scoring tries than sure. It's a shame he's a fullback and needs to have defensive skills. Well, defensive skills other than kicking blokes in the face of course.

He's not overrated at all.

Its only this years he's acquired those accolates because he has been the best fullback this year. IMO Brett Stuart is not as good as Slater - anyway I though Brett Stuart was available to play if picked for the rlwc - is he injured?

Gidley would probably we ahead of Slater and he's older and more experienced. Karmichael Hunt and Slater about equal in terms of ability - but this year Slater deserved his spot.
