Good to see a NZ team one day.
It'll happen, but not for another 20-30 or so years.

That looks like a fair time-line with NZ, and the most likely country to start off with.
Many seeds being sewn in various countries right now and I guess some may bear fruit and some will wither away and die.

Not an easy road to travel for the AFL, but one that must be explored.
It's a big package reeling in another country to our code and will take some serious work.

there is rumor that trengove (port) wants to come home and on the afl website said he has put off contract talks till the end of the year.

Duigan out this week.

Omitted? Duigan for Armfield. No matchup for Duigan this week. Noticed that when I tried to do a matchups thing early on the preview thread. Armfield has to come in to play on LeCras who isn't a good matchup for Duigan (too agile, quick). Duigs is also too small for their three tall forwards (Lynch, Kennedy, Darling / resting ruck) and they don't really have any medium forwards. If they play LeCras as a forward only the Eagles negate the abilities of Gibbs' run if the alternative was to play Gibbs plays on him solely. I can see that as being a reasonable swap this week. Russell was the other candidate.

If he's injured then that's a surprise. However, he usually glues his marks and he spilled a few which is very abnormal. Hand/finger injury per chance?

I think it's amazing Duigan has been able to play 13 games straight so far this year, and wouldn't be surprised if he needs/was given a rest (not due to cockyness, but list management).

I can't think of a young, very talented tall who we would value more than Trengrove (who is within reach - based on the whole interstate thing). We talk about Talia but Trengrove already has runs on the board. There's just no doubting the kids quality and capacity for the modern game.

Into CHB, what a combination he'd provide with Jamo! And he could do occasional ruck work.

I know we've got Watto, but the window is open and we know the one thing we're missing (today) is a gun CHB.

Hard to see what we'd be willing to let go of to make this happen though. He's highly rated by Port and his leaving would be one of those line in the sand type moment as they rebuild their list and club.

That said, we probably have the best reputation in the league for trading fairly given Judd and Warnock deals.

I hate identifying players who may go but I guess you'd have to consider what they'd want within reason which might include one of Bower / Hampson plus something like a pick. Either or both of those guys would be seriously affected by Trengrove's arrival at the club.

Certainly wouldn't want the Dawks or Filth getting their hands on him.

my thinking was hampson for trengove and 2nd or 3rd round pick (from port).

Duigs will not be omitted. Also highly doubt he's injured.

If he was and the foundation for that was for there not to be a suitable match-up this week, then we're entering a new era in player/squad management.

Hate to see Duigan out of the team, but if the rationale stacks up, then kudos to those with the balls to make such a call.

No way.
Hampsons form over the past couple of weeks have given us an insight into how good he might just be. Talk about getting injured at the wrong time.

both player are going to be very good but we need a tall defender and can afford to lose a ruckman and port need a ruck and can cover the lose of trengove. hampson has had 2 extra years of development which is why i think we should get 2nd or 3 rd round draft pick. but i think this will be a win/win

So we trade one of our three ruckmen, and one gets injured (which tends to happen quite often), and then we have 1. Awesome. :thumbsd:

Duigs not omitted. He did his calf. Docs were treating him in rooms after game on footage. Wasn't his usual self on the weekend. Missed some ground balls that he normally tractors through with fierceness.

Id rather trade warnock if we went after trengrove than hampson. i think hampson is starting to fufil his potential where as i think warnock will always be beanpole who doesnt like the hard stuff. at least hampson gives his all every contest

Please venture onto the Port board with your proposed trade of Hampson for Trengove and a second or third round pick.

And post your findings.
I suspect another Swan might be on your list soon too, just a gut feel I have. I may or may Notte be right. :D

thinking we are finally starting to see what hammer is capable of, why trade now? Especially for someone unproven.

The clubs stance with Hammer at this stage is that he is a required player, but wont be totally shocked if he does want to seek a trade at the end of the year. The club will not float his name up, unless it is under his directive.

I sincerely hope we don't put his name up at any time soon.
We've gone through a protracted teething period with Hampson, and would hate nothing less than for us to forfeit our advantage and years of investment now.

This guy will be something special yet and if were going to have traded him it should have been 2 years ago.

its a pretty tough one with hammer and warnock at the moment? I cant put my finger on who id prefer in the team when fit! hammer shows great promise sometimes but does stupid things and is clumsy. Warnock great sometimes but doesnt get enough around the grounds and nowhere near as athletic as hammer either.

I think we could afford to offload 1 to port for a swap with trangove, dare say we would have to give up something else as well for him, but not major. A bower swap is also fathomable!

Ruck coverage would then be:
Kreuzer
hammer or warnock
setanta
trengove
casboult

You would then look to the draft & pick a ruckman with a draft pick and a rookie pick or 2, with the hopes of development like sauce. (I think we can afford a few picks this coming year on speculative rucks/kpp with our current depth)

Hampson has serious potential but i'd still prefer Warnock at this stage.
He just needs to get a bit of mongrel in him and learn to fight like Kreuzer does at the contest.

I wouldn't be surprised if my mind is changed in a year though.

I don't.
We can put as many names as we want on paper, but none of the above can give us what a Hampson or Warnock can.

Our rucks, and rotations of them have been an unqualified success for us this season.
When no Kreuzer we had Hampson and Warnock to fill the void.
No Warnock & Kreuzer? Hampson and O'hAiplin did the job.
No Hampson? Warnock to come back to support Kreuzer.

Casboult may just develop into a reasonable ruck-man, but I wouldn't be banking on it just yet.
We off-loaded Jacobs last year when it was clear that 4 rucks could not co-exist, but to cast another one out right now may just come back and bite us hard.

The other point with Kreuzer and Hamspon is that their values may well extend well beyond ruck duties in the not too distant future
