Doesnt really relate to Carlton, but I've been told by someone who i would consider a reasonably reliabe person, that Tom Scully is actually a good chance to stay at the Dee's.

It really gets to me how we keep hearing the words, "certain to sign" related to Scully.
If he hasn't signed yet then what is he actually doing?

I was very happy with Lucas' output on the weekend and I am very confident that he will be a quality player for us in the future but how on earth were those 2 passes 'lace out'?

The first one was just a kick on his head, perhaps more to his advantage but still not what I would define as being a lace out pass.

The second was an obvious shank which fell in between 3 St Kilda players.

I was also amazed that those Lucas 'passes' are now being described as 'lace out'. He played a decent game but they were anything but lace out passes.
More like kick in the general vicinity of Setanta and hope he grabs it.

Lucas has not been able to take a trick this year.
His kicking in particular has been awful, which makes me feel that his body (most likely his legs/hamstrings) aren't quite right.
His general movement also has not been of that fluent movement we saw last year.

Really hope we can get him right for next year, along with Bower.
It would be a real bonus to have these two up and running again.

Every year we have some players go forwards and some that go backwards, or more likely just stay at the same level and others leapfrog them.
I just feel that Laidler has more upside than Duigan and as we've seen this year to date it doesn't take much to find yourself back with the Ants.

I feel Tuohy will become a permanent fixture next year and with Jamison, Henderson, Laidler and Yarran at least tying up another four slots, we will have Russell, Duigan, Davies, hopefully Bower and still possibly Thornton fighting things out to complete our back-line. Add in the potential of McCarthy and Watson coming on and we're starting to get a bit tight down back.

Really not setting out to discount Duigans value but moreso to outline that it just doesn't take much to precievably look as though you've fallen out of favour.

But in fairness Harks, you did say you thought Duig's might go "backwards" not that he would be starved of opportunity due to others improving. There's a subtle but significant difference there.

For what it's worth, I think the sort of courage this man shows and his level of determination is what will keep him in the team ahead of a few of those you've mentioned.

The team's improvement overall this year has been largely due to a greater level of resolve and mental toughness and it's guys like Duigs who have led the way on this score. It will take an awful lot for the MC to start looking unfavourably on the likes of him.

For the sake of playing through the hypothetical.....

JR > GCS
Josh Toy > Collingwood
Pick 23 > Collingwood
Dawes > Carlton

I'd rather Toy and pick 23 personally. I think we are overtaxing Dawes a little. Does well as Cloke's sidekick, but how would he go getting the number 1 defender every week?

I say that OBF, because I think he is really getting the absolute best out of himself right now and that he won't get better, so any movement in form can only go one way.

Tuohy has a mountaing of upside and should be a regular next year.
I still have confidence in Davies becoming a very good player for us possibly next year, but more likely the year after.
Russell at his best is still an essential in our back-line and Laidler looks as though he has plenty in the tank to only get better.

Just a point of view and certainly not one I wish for to materialise for Duigan, but the jostling for spots will not get any easier next year for all at the CFC and just one game with the Ants can easily spread out to a season, when players keep there form and fitness in the senior side.

I was just putting forward that it's feasible....not saying I'd do it.

I'd rather keep Toy and have a crack at Steven May with 23.

At risk of upsetting the we are only a gun KPP away from a GF brigade ;)

Interesting re: some of the recent comments suggesting Russell to GC.

Would this mid season 'fitness camp' he attended on the Gold Coast (i'm pretty sure it was up in the gold coast) have anything to do with this speculation?

Agree with this.
I'd leave Hendo at CHB and obviously Jamo at FB for 2012 and beyond. Hendo looks far more comfortable back there, and he took Riewoldt to the cleaners on Saturday night.

We need one more big forward.

Wouldn't it be nice if Mitchell came on quickly and we had Waite and him there next year.

I would have thought Waite would have at least another 2 seasons in him but unless we find a AFL ready KPF this drafting season I don't neccessarily see the point in getting another KP kid as it won't address our key forward issues short term.

The club would have to believe it's GF appearance chances realistically start next season and with that in mind they have to have all positions 'ready to go' (pending injuries as always).

Would like to see Hendo stay at CHB with Jamo at FB and hopefully any mix of Waite, Irish, Hammer and hopefully some games from Mitchell at least in the FF and CHF roles.

Not sold on the Krueze/206 combo to this point. Krueze is so much better closer to the action.

Well, three kicks and no score at all on the weekend, shut just about everyone up, didn't it?

My point on his inconsistency was vindicated at least.

Reid's much better. But we would be breaking the bank to get him

We just have to be patient with Mitchell. He's played no footy at all this year, and 2012 in reality will be his first year on a senior list.

What we really have struggled with this year is to have that mobile big body in our forward line that is a real target for us. Waite and O'Hailpin have had some success with this, but have missed too much footy with injuries.

Kreuzer will be significantly better in 2012 after he completes a full preseason. I think we all knew that anything we could get out of him in 2011 will be a bonus.

Can GC still grab him this season, or will a trade have to be done?

Pretty sure JR's under contract till the end of 2012, so the club & JR have to both agree to a trade. If they can't agree, then no trade.

And you'd reckon we'd want something good in return.

GC just can't grab him.

John Butcher re-signs with Port Adelaide

RISING key forward John Butcher has signed a contract extension with Port Adelaide.

He said today he wanted to repay the faith of the club that drafted him at No.8 in the 2009 national draft.
“The club was good enough to give me the opportunity in the first place and then got me through a tough first year,” said Butcher, who burst on to the scene in the final four rounds of 2011 after battling a series of injuries.

I just feel that this post needs to be quoted. So we can all see Eddie being mad. Again. Over and over. For eternity.

Greatly upsets me that I am so closely related to him.

just kick him in the balls any time he mentions Collingwood... or opens his mouth for that matter...
