The coach of the Carlton Football Club is an extremely tough gig.
The board, supporters and everyone involved expects success. I love the arrogance of the club and the ruthless attitude.

However the game is a different beast to what it was 20 years ago. Patience is required and you can't become a great team overnight.

The fossils who supported the club in the 70's and 80's who complain about the coach are living in the past. If he was coaching the open cheque book club that was Carlton in that era, then yep, he'd be on thin ice.
But this competition is different. You have to build teams over multiple years. Which Ratten, the MC and the recruiters are doing.
There has been so much improvement this year. I think we'll look back on 2011 as a massive year for us in becoming a contender.

Now let's back Ratts in and **** the Bombers over on Sunday.

So we'll largely dismiss the efforts to date and base things on one match.
That sounds like a somewhat removed from the action board, to me.

Any half decent coach is always offered more than one year, so by default that would be what we're saying to Ratten if were to give him only the one.

I don't know, but I think there is more to be said for the board here, then there is for Ratten.
Sounds like a "we're really not sure" decision to me if that was to be the way it went.

If all this talk re: JR to GWS is true .... maybe it was planned as far back as last year .. and maybe, just maybe .. CFC knew about this and bumped up JR's ranking in the B&F (finished runner-up) in order to get the maximum compensation for him.

We do not reward mediocrity and we will not reward Ratten if we lose for the 3rd straight years in the finals.

We finished the season 5th and beat the scum by 70 odd points last time we met. If we lose this one he should be gone not acceptable.

If we lost to the scum and ratten was resigned I will be livid.

What i found to be of concern was that Barrett was talking about having information from our board and knowing that some board members are undecided about Ratten. If this is so sack these board members who leaked such information.

I'm with this one. I can probably accept that some board members may want to get rid of the coach if we get flogged (won't happen anyway) as long as they are in the minority and get outvoted.

What I can't accept is that there may be some board members leaking info to the press particularly as we lead into a finals series. FFS we do not need distractions like this.

Barrett is a flea and most of what he "breaks" is inferior to what we read in this forum anyway but if he is getting fed info from board members we should start pulling his fingernails out til he tells us who. It's much more critical that we rid ourselves of bastards like that than a coach who, not only seems to have player respect, but has overseen big improvements to our game.

Everyone is quick to point out that we have lost 2 finals in the last 2 years but no one mentions they were both away games and we lost both by about a kick. Blaming the coach for those losses is bullshit.

Noone is saying it's good enough.
Who do you want the coach to be? Jock McHale as senior coach with Malthouse, Matthews and Phil Jackson as assistants wouldn't have taken us to flags in those years. Ratten is doing a good job. A bit like drafting, let's develop our own. I think we're on a winner.
