Pretty much not doing much running apart from an occasional trot to condition myself for a hellish training regime for Comrades next year. I'll probably be looking for 60km weeks in January (and will spend a week around Australia Day in Brisbane to help), 80km weeks in February and up to 100km up to Canberra early in April. Got some ideas for courses set up and plenty of hill work will have to be done given the route takes in 5 long climbs to negotiate along the 88km journey.

It's for Canberra that I'm a little torn over which distance to run. If I do the normal 42km marathon I feel I'll be able to improve my entry time (which I can do until May) to get into an earlier starting zone, yet if I do the 50km Ultra I'll get some extra km in the legs as well as attend to unfinished business from 2016. I've got about a month to decide which distance I'm going to do. I'd also like to do a couple of other events before late May in order to get race fit as opposed to physically fit.

sounds like a plan. im so ****ing jealous
Comrades is my one running dream. i've heard nothing but incredible stories and being South African born makes the pull even stronger. i'll get there one year for an up run...although they reckon you havent really done Comrades until you've gone both ways.

with regards to Canberra i think it depends on what medal you're chasing and whether or not you're confident of making the distance.
if you're going for a time then run the marathon. if its more about finishing then do the 50k...its hard to simulate that kind of fatigue in your legs so the extra distance will be a big benefit.

anyway, good luck with it all and keep us posted on your progress.

i went for a run this morning,

1st k - this is good, i feel awesome
2nd k - calves are a bit sore but thats to be expected...i'll run it off
3rd k - knee pain, time to pack it in :(

it was probably a bit too soon but i suck at resting.

When someone gives you their save the date for their wedding and its the same day you planned to do your next marathon

hopefully a morning marathon and an afternoon wedding? Not a bad way to take care of the post marathon celebrations than at someone else's expense.

This week been on one run due to timetable clashes kids etc and wifes work

Now had this arvo to go and planned 10k and its pissing down and windy as shit, think its the bike on the wind trainer again

Not the best prep for a half marathon

marriages rarely last, your marathon time is forever.

Your usernames are hard to keep up with :D...........especially now that I'm not on here often thanks to the network at work labelling this a "gambling site". :(

Happy with my parkrun this morning seeing as I'm back playing cricket and not getting the same kms in as a month or so back.

Planned on an easy-ish 4.10-4.20 pace but after getting through km No.1 feeling quite cruisey (at 3.54 pace) I thought I'd just try to hold it.

Ended up doing 19.54 (3rd time under 20.00) and only 14 secs off my PB without ever really pushing for a PB pace.

Ended up with splits of 3.54, 3.58, 4.03, 4.04, 3.53

How often do you all change your shoes? After how many kms?

I've had mine for about 15 months and probably done about 1200kms. They are still comfortable, but I feel like they're coming to an end.

I'm rotating between 2 pairs that both have 600-700km each. I know some people would be looking for new ones but they both feel like they've got a bit of life left to me.

it depends.
i got just under 1000k out of my last pair, my current ones are on 1400 and they still feel good.
im very light though and i do a lot of easy running so the impact on my shoes is less than most.

generally i can feel it when they start to go...its hard to explain, but the feedback you get from the shoe is different.
also, it tends to happen round about the time something new and shiny gets released...my shoes are deteriorating a whole lot faster since the New Balance Zante V3 hit the shelves.

congrats on the PB :thumbsu:

How do you choose which ones to run with? Do you give them equal love? Or is it just first pair you see? These questions feel a bit intimate! Haha

My favourite pair are the lighter ones. I tend to do my higher quality and faster runs or events in those and just 'log miles' in the others.....even though the others were the more expensive and supposedly better shoes.

I tend to buy a new pair when they get to like 800-900km just in case the old ones fall apart (they never do though). Got three pairs at the moment two pairs of the same shoe because they were on special (one of them is still in the box). The third pair i run in but also use for cricket training, hockey and basketball so i dont really keep track of the kms for them.

Often get 2 pairs a year, one in January and another in August. Often use the an older pair for some training runs and don't like using what I'm going to race with in the week prior to the event (I often don't train much that week anyway).
