What sort of tactics do you think they will employ to stop us gaining any momentum like we did early against geelong..
Do you think they will try to take out a player.. ala yeats dermie style. I hope the boys are aware of what might be coming. Its all or nothing. One flag one premiership!

In round 3 we saw Harry go to Jones and try to rough him up a bit. It didn't work to well.. i hope we just play the footy but protect our men if they get into any trouble.
Protection of didaks shoulder is important though!

Re: will the saints try to upset us physically or tactically

Guys on tv this morning were floating the theory that Baker was being preserved for the GF, in line with the theory that often a player coming back will play well the first week, but then struggle with recovery. When they were saying that I was thinking that Bakes might be included with a mission to scrag Dids or similar.

It wont be their first time now would it!

If Baker is named then there will be no hope of it being a 'clean' game, they'll be using every dirty tactic in the book to get over the line.

Re: will the saints try to upset us physically or tactically

Depends on how scared of us they are, we are all aware that St Kilda are capable of using cetain tactics we would see as unsavoury in an attempt to take down some important players to our side. If they're scared be prepared to see them go after Didaks shoulder, Balls hammy and Swan in general to try and get them ruffled up. Our boys can't get involved in it and need to not retaliate.

Unless they hurt one of our players badly, then send in Leroy and Cloke to sort the shit out.

Re: will the saints try to upset us physically or tactically

Dont know about the boys, but if it were me and the Aints selected Baker I would be rubbing my hands as I would know that they are running scared and would try and antagonise us to get an edge. It means they dont believe that they can beat us fair and square. I tell ya, I would have a spring in my step before the bounce.

Re: will the saints try to upset us physically or tactically

I'd suggest we pick someone for the sole purpose of running through Riewoldt and taking out his head, but fortunately the Saints are certain to pick Kosi anyway, so that's taken care of.

Re: saints tactics

The saints will go in with their tempo keep possesion footy style.
They will try and make it a low scoring scrappy game, but this is where we will cruch them lock them down in a forwrd fifty and smash them on the score board.

Stkilda will be shell shocked. If they start the same way as they did against the bulldogs expect a barage of scoring shots from the pies.
If we kick staright game will over by half time.

This will not be a close game.

Aside from Ball who should play we should field a very strong side.
I believe that the cats have run us into form, and this group are hell bent on winning with injury concerns to gram, dal santo,Kosi(ribs),Reiwoldt (concussion) they haven't got the players to beat us.

We have too many strong players in most positions.
Example who is going to hold travis cloke, dawes, leroy brown.
They have fisher, dawson, gilbert, goddard (who is not a negator) .Their backline hasn't got the strength to negate our talls. With Leon Davis expected back he will play well, normally does when he has a week off.

Look one game to go it all comes down to this Collingwood are troo switched on and confidant to lose.
We will win by at least 50 points.

Re: saints tactics

They will be very deffensive and slow the game down so it is played in their term. If Dal Santo gets suspended they could bring Baker in and that would suit us. He hasnt played for 12 weeks and would be miles of the pace he should be for a grand final. Key to us beating the saints is score board preasure and preasure. We did it to them last time and if we do it again we will smack em. We made Gilbert and Gram look terrible and that was due to our forward preasure and the run of them is very important to the Saints.

Re: saints tactics

I see it being this simple if it is a high scoring game we will win and if it's a low scoring game they will.

The saints will try and lock the game down and turn it into a patient slug fest. They spend lots of time early trying to deny us the ball and set up defensively. This makes the first use of the ball most important.

I also think they are going to try and make it pretty physical early but that will be just as much about them wanting to give it everything to redeem themselve from last year as anything else.

Re: saints tactics

If Baker plays that is a win for us i reckon. He hasn't played for 12 weeks and the umps will be watching him like a hawk. He will only have to look at someone and we will get the free kick.

This exactly.

If they select Baker, and we DON'T select Leon, you can pretty much hand us the cup now.

Selecting Baker means they're scared shitless like Thompson was.

Re: saints tactics

You know when St.Kilda had 5 on the bench.. Rossy put 9 players in the backline and had only 2 in the forward line :o that's saying something.

While they're trying to play a slow tempo game, man-up on them and press on them with pressure making them play backwards and hoping for a long bomb with like likes of Jolly and Harry O etc to take a mark on the wing.

They can bring in baker to be dirty if they like, but we have leigh brown, and he can be an angry, angry man,so if they try this, they'll all end up wiped out by him..love you pies..lets do it this saturday :-)

Re: saints tactics

after watching pendelburys game on friday, saints would have watched his game carefully and will put cliton jones on him to shut down his effective dispoals

Re: saints tactics

An area where they are suspectable is their lack of pace. IMV we are hugely underrated in this regard, we have multple players with bonafide footspeed. Pace is basically their major achiles heel.

Re: saints tactics

They will try to bore our players to death and kick open goals.

This is their game plan

And this is one of the areas we showed Geelong up in also. Very good balance of pace around the ground without any real slow movers. Our back 6 is as quick as any in the league and glad someone mentioned this.

Ball movement and pace for mine are what can rip this game up. The two big advantages we have over St.K

Get on top in the midfield, clearly win the 1st quarter on the scoreboard and keep the ball forward of centre and this game is very winnable.

If we can score more than 10 goals we will win.

We have comprehensively beaten the saints in the middle in both games this year.....and we should do again.

Our forward line is functioning much better than earlier in the season....and we simply will not give Gilbert, Fisher or Gram any opportunity to set the saints up from the back.

Starting to become very confident, as if we play our best footy I dont see the saints being able to go with us.

lol @ clinton jones, dont know how he made it to the afl.

Can't kick the ball for shit, and he doesnt have the same knowledge as Pendles ie. cant read the play like him. Pendlebury will destroy him.
