Sam Mitchell vs. Scott Thompson (Adel)

Who is the better player, Mitchell or Thompson?

Both some of the toughest players in the league, both ball magnets, both great clearance players.

I'd take Thompson on the proviso that he has been carrying the Adelaide midfield without Goodwin and Edwards this year and has been in extremely good form.

Sam Mitchell is averaging more disposals, more clearances & contested ball this year than Thompson. And not to mention he is a better kick with both feet. No competition for me.

Also Mitchell is pretty superior over his career in the key statiscal aspects. Probably the most underrated footballer in the comp and then some.

Great Poll IMO. Scotty is probably THE most underrated midfielder in the AFL, Sammy probably 2nd most underrated.

Both are guns in close, Sammy shades Scotty in this area, Scotty probably just in front out in the open, strong mark and kicks a few more goals. Sammy's dual sides gives him options around the ground and makes him very hard to tackle. Leg speed to Scotty as Mitch is slower than a wet week.

still... has mitchell ever kicked it out on the full in the last minute of an elimination final when his teams up by less than a goal, giving the opposition possession and ultimately the win?

Thompson is a better set and field shot at goal, Mitchell is better at everything else.

And Mitchell's been kicking goals lately.

On that basis, Thompson. **** knows how good they would both be if their roles were reversed.

Thompson is better. Mitchell only every plays half a game. If he could play 4 quarters at the level he can play 2 then he would be the number 1 player in the comp...unfortunately he can't

Yeah no, Mitchell often gets off the hook with Hodge and Rioli getting harder opponents.

Mitchell has stared in an average team.... see 2005 and 2006. would of been AA if he didn't get injured in 2005.
people forget how consistent Mitchell has been, never has he had a bad season even in his early days...
2002 - played 11 games for box hill won the J.J Liston Trophy
2003 - Improved and won the Nab Rising Star Award

Add on top of that Mitchell's best is better the S.Thompson's best...

But i agree Thompson is the most underrated midfielder in the comp.

Haha, at least ur honest. I hope this thread doesn't turn to shit. I honestly love watching Thompson play, probably one of my favourites, he just has domination written all over his face.

Good poll. Voted Thompson, just. Both excellent players, and for some reason, very underrated. Surprised to find that Mitchell hasn't been an AA at some point. Very surprised.
