With the new draft choices confirmed what is the order of the draft and will it help or hinder our draft prospects?

1. John Meesen -CLUB?

2. Nathan Van Berlo -CLUB?

3. Chad Gibson -CLUB?

4. Ivan Maric -CLUB?

5. Chris Knights -CLUB?

All the Crow & Power players drafted from outside SA are picked by the SANFL clubs in reverse finishing order. Gibson is already at Norwood.
Isnt there a split? e.g 5 clubs aligned to Crows and 5 to Port Power?

And if say a Maric goes to a club already with enough ruckmen would that help? Though why a SANFL club would draft another ruckman I know just suppose.

Not knowing the situation in SA just wondering the age old question of placing a recruit where it suits him and AFC not the SANFL club.

Not for allocating the drafted players to SAFL clubs. You're getting confused with the Father & Son selection / club allocation.

I think Westies are too far down the order for Meesen to go to them

PerthCrow, you are confusing club allocation for father son rules. Basically we have a SANFL mini draft where all our new interstate draftees (including rookie listed players) go into a pool and SANFL clubs pick them up.

The order is decided by revesring the ladder. Eg a wooden spoon "winner" will get pick 1 while the premiers will get the last pick of the round.

I reckon Norwood will go for Meesen as they need a ruckman and they have the first pick.

The SANFL is going to be overloaded with AFL ruckmen next year -

Willts
Hudson
Meesen
DeLuca
Maric
Meikljohn (Ex Sydney)
Andrews

sanfl draft order

predicted order of the sanfl draft where new players drafted to crows/port get taken:

1. norwood - meesen
2. south - willits
3. glenelg - deluca
4. port - van berlo
5. westies - ezard
6. north - maric
7. sturt - knights
8. eagles -
9. centrals -

this will be finalised after the PSD and rookie drafts as players may come through there from interstate as well, but thats how it should stand after the ND.

Wests should get the ruckmen, It serves both clubs.
I doubt they would need one. They still have that kid clarke (???), Steinford (?????) and now Marsh and That big recruit from Western Bulldogs that has been recruited for CHF but at 196 cm he can play ruck if needed.

Also don't forget Dabrowski. West probably have most depth in the ruck than any other SANFL side.

Correct. Norwood, Glenelg and maybe South need ruckmen. West don't.

If they need a ruckman they might be better off going for Maric or Deluca. Of the three, Meesen would probably be expected to play the least amount of SANFL over the next few years.

They might think of taking Meesen with mind that he will play for a year or two with them which would give them enough time to get DeVries developed as a regular senior player.

Haven't Glenelg already got Rowan Andrews, Michael Griffiths, Trevor Cranston, Matthew Golding, & Josh Krueger as ruckmen ?

Why would they want yet another ruckman in Delucia ?

Have some of these guys, other than Rowan Andrews & Josh Krueger, left the Bays ?

If not, then I would have thought they would have gone after a different type of player (van berlo, etc) ie not a ruckman.

Yes, I'm aware Josh Krueger is always injured but that still leaves them with four ruckman from what I can tell.

But Glenelg were thrashed in the ruck most of 2004.
Andrews played a lot of 2's and struggled in the league when given a game.
Golding played forward as he is too slow around the ground
Griffiths was never up to it.
Cranston is not tall enough to ruck - did so out of necessity
Krueger was injured most of the season and is seen more as a forward.

Good call Fergus. I think Nye could go to the Eagles and Griffen to the Dogs.

At least that's what I hope happens. The Dogs could do with another ruckman now that Arnold has retired.

In regards to the Bays ruck needs, I have heard that Golding has left the Bays so that should assist Andrews spending more time in the ruck (I hope).

Re: sanfl draft order

SANFL draft.

I hope some clubs start applying some logic to their selections and tend to build closer ties to one of the AFL teams, but not exclusive. This should help some of the young guys develop together.

1. norwood - meesen, should pick up a crows player
2. south - van Berlo, should start to work with the crows
3. glenelg - knights, should start to work with the crows
4. port - willitts, it would make sence to pick a power player
5. westies - maric, tend to be a good feeder club for the crows
6. north - ezard, already has a lot of power kids and should continue
7. sturt - deluca, now have a lot of power players so might as well strengthen this. ( I can not beleive i am suggesting sturt and port help each other)
8. eagles - Nye , should pick a crow
9. centrals - Griffen, should work with the power but numbers mean they will end up with a crow.
