Roast Scott Camporeale is a horrible coach

Watching this Geelong game and it's positively embarrassing how awful our midfield structures are.
  • Jacobs getting decent taps, but our mids run under the ball and away from the tap zone. Consequently we don't get clearances.
  • Defensive midfield structures are non-existent. So when the pressure is on, the other team finds it easy to waltz out of stoppages because we don't set up defensively, ever.
  • We still hack kick out of clearances rather than working it around the stoppages like other teams. These kicks are cut off by a defensive sweeper on the 50 line about 98% of the time.
  • Players don't run defensively and they never had. Even when we had a gun midfield unit of Sloane, Dangerfield and Thmmo. Pure attack which never stands up in pressure games.
  • On top of the above point, teams tend to find it ludicrously easy to get the ball out of our forward line because our midfielders are caught in no mans land when they handball it out of defense. On the flip side, our structures deny us easy ball out of the opposition's defense.
  • No tagging when it's plainly obvious who needs to be tagged and when tagging works. Today, for example, Selwood needed to be tagged from the opening bounce to the final siren. Didn't bother.
  • When Sloane gets tagged, we have no answer. We don't get Sloane to work off another player, and we don't get out other midfielders to support
  • We have taught the mongrel out of our players. M. Crouch was a tough unit when he came to the club. Now he's soft.
  • Tackling ability is non-existent. We don't tackle well and we never have.
  • We don't play to the times. Umpires are letting people get away with drawing high frees and dropping the ball. We should be dropping the ball the moment we are about to be tackled, but we don't.
  • Our players have zero desire to win the football when it's tough and that is absolutely a coaching issue. We need to be coached to be tough at the ball.
All of these issues are under the reign of Campo, the midfield coach. On top of that, Campo has this inability to shake his love for absolutely s**t players like David Mackay.

As a reminder, Campo was the head coach when he dropped Lever and brought back Mackay for the 2015 finals series purely because of "experience" reasons. Absolutely clueless. And then when we get pumped he can't make the hard calls to drop his 'mates' for their disgraceful efforts.

He's been here since Neil Craig. How many coaches have we rotated through while keeping this guy? And that entire time we've been completely unable to win pressure matches and tough finals.

Has to go. He's finished at the club. Won't win a flag with him controlling our midfield design.

As much as he's crap Pyke needs to grow a pair and stand up to him.

We cant get simple rotations right and never have under this flog.

As someone in the game day thread pointed out: How many 10 year assistants are there in the AFL? We've got 2 of them and neither has ever been considered for a senior gig or any other sort of promotion. Should tell you something about how they're viewed externally.

And before people say such inevitable garbage:

Yeah, we beat GWS and Port Adelaide and Hawthorn and Richmond and we're first on the ladder? Who gives a * when the Crows play the same way in every tough match. It's a recipe for finals, concocted in the center by an incompetent midfield coach.

Yeah, Don Pyke is the head coach. But he's not in charge of everything. Each line coach works closely with the players in that zone to get them playing to the gameplan. Campo is incapable of this. Do you really think Pyke wants our mids to get comprehensively smashed at contested ball in every tough match? Of course not. And it's not his job to go and retool all the specifics because that is the domain of Campo.

Yeah, our selection panel is not just Campo. But he's on it. He has made s**t calls about guys like Mackay before. He's all part of the problem.

Given his arrogant, dismissive bullshit performance in the media during the week, they really need to hold him accountable and demand an explanation as to why this is allowed to happen time after time.

"We have a plan for Selwood"

Was that plan for him to rack up 18 touches at nearly 100% DE mid way through the second quarter?

But, but, he only turned down our job because of his kids and building company. And as I've posted before, he's a blocker to getting high quality and hungry assistants in. Senior coaches come from senior assistants, no opportunity to get that high at our club, notvwith that coaching spud blocking the path.

Out: Campo
In: Div 3 country ammos coach

Out: Campo
In: Scorpus

Tactics:
  • Tag Selwood. Tag him the whole game.
  • Tell players where Jacobs taps to and tell them to get their asses there
  • Tell players if they don't run defensively, they are dropped for a minimum of 3 weeks
  • Instruct players how to tackle correctly. How about you pin the arms fellas?
  • Ban kicking directly out of a contest. We have outside players, use them.
  • Complete overhaul of midfield structure when opposition is getting the ball out of their defense
  • Instruct players to drop the ball as soon as they are tackled
  • Tell players to tackle the opposition before they get the ball. That's allowed, apparently
  • Tell players to put in some niggle and fight.

Harder to get rid of than Wenger.

I'm convinced unless pyke does something massive, we'll never win a premiership with campo,Clarke, dmac,Douglas.
My feelings. He's so worried about making a huge shakeup he's potentially letting his career and a real chance for a premiership go down.

That goes to guys like Roo and Burton too if they don't have the guts to tell a "good 'ol boy" that he's done.
