It is hard to ignore the mass media - because they will
1) always have a core of people who agree with their echo chamber so validating the hosts' viewpoint
2) when the mass media also is involved in bribing the brains of a political party (in this case the IPA and their links to Murdoch) even if "people/ audience" appeared to abadon that media, they would stay relevant to the cash strapped political party

Maybe the only way is to boycott those who advertise on those media (Sky/ 2GB etc). Or support online advertising to demonstrate mass media's weaknesses...
I don't know if that's true. Mass media is being ignored a lot lately. Most of the people on here who are parroting lines they've heard are people who come across as being radicalised online, left and right, or keen Bolt/Sky News watchers. Of course the fact we're online is going to skew the numbers massively, but readership of newspapers has been in enormous decline for a long time, and TV is doing much news these days. I don't see poll numbers being swayed by News Corp campaigns, or 3AW/2GB campaigns? I did think the ABC gave the Libs a helping hand from 2016-2017, so I get where you're coming from, but my worry remains what will be lost when people are getting their 'news' from random places with little integrity and/or resources.

Do any of the RW people banging on about wanting the Gov to foot the bill for a new Coal Fired Power station see the irony that it was neo-liberal economics that led to power being privatised and the costs have gone up ever \

No.

if they saw it they would no longer be RWNJs.

Well, the base that the RWNJ refer to are white males, and the "wimmin" that do their bidding, so those votes aren't part of that list.

she could ask Alan Jones, he's got plenty to say...

4 Corners should be fun tonight.

It seems that our Finance Minister Cormann cannot count.

what was it that Paul J. Keating said? if you've got the numbers you use them...they played Cormann like a cheap suit.

anyways, ministry reads like a who's who of backstabbers, keeping them really close.

10/9 should be fun at QT.

Apparently Abbott might get a similar “special role”.

Here you are Abbott;

That will keep him quiet for a bit...

Does anyone think this was a set up?

From an Abbott perspective (not from a normal person’s

Takes the envoy position = Morrison’s lackey
Rejects the envoy position = seen as racist just in time for the next election

Plain packaging doesn’t stop people from smoking.
Maybe not existing smokers so much - lung cancer, heart disease, COPD etc generally takes care of that.

I'd like to ask a serious question of those who support the right wing of the Libs and their allies in thinking.

They're so caught up in their own ideology that they don't think. They have a belief that not only are they right but that the majority agree with them even though there is evidence to the contrary. Please note that's before we even get into the real nutters amongst them.

Agree total numbers declining but it is that smaller core who are also the ones who take their lead and opinion from those mass media are the ones who stay (ugh that was an inelegant sentence).
So the influence level isn't declining as much as ratings suggest.

**** me dead.

Says a lot that the Daily Telegraph boasts of being the 'News Brand of the Year'. Not winning awards for ground-breaking journalism, just being a big-selling 'brand' of paid car reviews, junk mail catalogues and glossy real estate photos masquerading as a 'news'paper.

He probably needs a bold rallying policy to take to election like howard with the GST.

Neither were popular at the time but at least it was a focus
Monorail

SFT now bypassing Brisbane and through the electorates that need it the most

Is this the young libs or the junior IPA? Either way they are delusional.

Betcha none of these young'uns have done a days hard slog at anything except count their entitlements.
When you

- grew up in Hyde Park (or Toorak or Pipers Point)
- had a job pre-lined up for you with mum's company or dad's mate's company
- have enjoyed top cover under your parents' private health
- never sweated through a sleepless night because your parents put in a $20,000 solar power system
- never had to rely on income support to put food in your mouth
- have never had to live in a poor-quality rental home where basic facilities break and the landlord takes their sweet time getting them fixed

...you don't care about anything other than cutting company taxes for your family investments, keeping house prices high for your portfolio, wages depressed for your family's employees, and income tax low for your hip pocket. That's what being a modern young right-winger is all about.

Just in case no-one has read the story...

News Limited was willing to pay dearly for this story not to be published. It first offered a $110,000 payment, plus a private apology, to avoid going to court. But the price it demanded was that the matter be kept confidential. The company was told to take a jump. See you in court.

The Daily Telegraph had published four stories about Michael Towke which he believed had defamed him, destroyed his political career, and caused untold stress to his family. ''These stories sent my mother to hospital,'' he told me. ''They demonised me. I wanted to confront them in court.''
But a court was not where News wanted to see Towke. ''They spent a lot of money fighting me,'' he said. ''Their lawyers made me jump through every hoop. They asked me 30 pages of questions.''

Near the eve of the court date, lawyers for the subsidiary which publishes the Telegraph, Nationwide News Pty Ltd, offered the confidentiality package, which Towke emphatically rejected.
On the eve of the trial, Nationwide came up with another offer: $50,000, plus costs, plus removing the offending articles from the internet and dropping the confidentiality requirement. On the advice of counsel, Towke accepted.

He was never willing to accept any settlement that was confidential, despite the risk that entailed. ''I was willing to bankrupt myself to clear my name,'' he said.

But, but, surely at least one of them has some tactical nouse. (although they proved they can't count so maybe not) Why chase ON and the other fringe parties to the right when they will get those votes back on preferences anyway? The battleground is in the centre, not the fringes. The rusted on types, loonies of both right AND left, will never change their voting habits.

To paraphrase Turnbul's son said 'I hope they are corrupt, otherwise they must be totally stupid'.

That is a good clip. It is a shame Dastyari is a deceitful traitor because he is otherwise a charismatic guy - quite a likeable fella. That was a good story. No surprise Malcolm or Morrison would be working with the Labor party. Perhaps they can get a job over there in the future.

That's what being a modern young right-winger is all about.

Yep, or just a rusty crusty old right winger who believes in all of the above because Jonesy, or Haddles, or the mad Monk or Bronny told them so. Passed down from their delusional fathers who believed it because Li'l Johhny or Ming the Magnificent said it was true. Or even poor old Pcos (remember the worlds greatest treasurer -Bah!- who spent the mining boom on giving no-hopers and young mothers flat screen TV's and didn't even have the bottle to do what Dutton did this week?)
