Given the subsidies/grants given to Adani and that from various reports are likely to have jobs for anything from 100 to 1000, why is Morrison not interested in helping Virgin Airlines and 16,000 jobs?
A few possible reasons:
1)economy and budget in a much more worse state.
2)Adanis investors put money in virgins investors seem to be saying not our problem.
3)Adani owned by a friendly trustworthy nation, virgin 40% owned by the govt who helped create this mess and has no credibility.
4) I guess as well if you are cynic like most of us - virgin jobs spread around australia, adani jobs around marginal electorates.

Frodo said today that Virgin is 90% owned by foreign entities with 'deep pockets' and the Feds don't bail out foreign entities.
Instead they're going to allow Virgin to go through administration, which will allow it to get rid of all the dead wood, probably writing off most of its debt and become a new company.

At any other time that would be 'phoenixing' but it seems the Federal Govt are keen to see it happen.
If that is his reasoning then how much does Australia/Australians own of Adani?

It will be interesting as quite a few other airlines have shares in Virgin.

Feel sorry for the staff.

You missed adanis donations to political parties and noshowjobzforlyfe

It's also inconsistent with the 'employees connection with employers' spiel we've been hearing from them.

They don’t need an app. The very best contact tracing is a conversation, with the right questions.Follow up visits or phone calls.

Public Health has seen a decrease in staff over the last 10 years due to it not being warm and fuzzy.
Now they are actually disrespecting the core value of what they do by trying to dehumanise it.

They need to permanently increase staff to this area, not have an uneccessary app. Then use words like mandatory, and if we don’t get the uptake we want you will be in lockdown longer.

I won’t download. No way.
Would not be surprised if people uploaded their infection and beurocracy was so slow it’s useless.
It’s like the public cctv camera in the uk. There’s nearly as many as people, but a fraction off the staff to actually monitor them

I think he will be ultimately. Virgin is based in Queensland and Queensland have not fully cashed their election ticket yet. I am sure Scotty will save them yet - just posturing on price.

An airline that after 8 weeks of air travel turmoil is on the brink of bankruptcy is a company that even without covid-19 was clearly acting with a flawed business model. Its UK branch has seen Sir Richard Branson request a bailout there too.

He hasn’t paid UK tax for 15 years. Yes his share in Virgin Aus is small but the other owners are hardly paupers. Why should our taxpayers bail out a flawed company that hasn’t shielded itself? Just so its wealthy owners can not dip into their own pockets. **** that

A lot of debt is always fine until it isn't.

Still doesn't address the subsidies and money to Adani for a fraction of the employees involved.

So why not bail Virgin out? Branson only owns 10%.

I wonder how much the government will pay out under FEG to employees, might be better off bailing them out and Qld has offered a few million.

This is just typical political mudslinging. They give to this so why not that, so tedious.

I haven’t said I agree with them on Adani, just that we shouldn’t bail out Virgin. I will be ropable if we do, let Virgin burn. In time someone will fill their place, guarantee it.

I wasn't attempting mud slinging, I thought they were the facts.

I really don't get it.

FEG payout will be enormous and it isn't as if it hasn't been done before.

Think you may have a problem with Branson's 10%.

No. I have a problem with a multi billion dollar company that is part of an even bigger group that 8 weeks into a crisis goes cap in hand to two separate national governments for a handout. A sign your business model is utterly ****ed.

It was just on the news anyway, takeover being mooted that would take up to 3 months and save most of those jobs.

Expressions of interest received. Approached the government 8 times for a loan and knocked back each time, Morrison citing they didn’t want to write a 1bn dollar cheque just to see it go into foreign shareholders hands.

Good to see them discover a backbone and rightly tell Virgin to get stuffed. Just like Virgin Blue rose from the ashes of Ansett someone will fill the void left by Virgin and a large proportion of their workforce will be saved.

The only bad move to be made here is giving them money they don’t deserve.

If we do - id take whatever money we chuck in for an issue of shares at the current share price.

Backed by NZ government.I heard that Virgin total collapse.
Then Air Nz to then be granted the ability to be the 2nd carrier in Australia As well as their normal business.

Qantas and Air NZ have a codeshare agreement which would stop Air NZ from competing with Qantas on Australian domestic routes.

I don't think Aussies trust government, full stop.

I don't see how the party distinction is relevant, but if it is, and if older people are most at risk, I think they would be more likely to trust government in general, and more likely to trust the Libs over Labor.

Ruby Princess..that is all.

I'm thinking Aussies in general have been understanding of the PM & Premiers + the various medical personnel & supply chain people who have kept things ticking as best as they can. Great to see the libs listening to some experts for a change. Even a bit of science!!

So why did the Chief medico then Scummo attack the medical staff at Burnie in Tasmania based on social media & unconfirmed reports? I mean WHY at this time put more stress on those guys & that community?

Didn't Scummo have enough positive regard? He's on TV every day, many times? Why the bigshot attention seeking behaviour? At this time?

Maybe he's feeling the Conservative pressure because of his massive spending? deflection time?

Also I watched Abbots old squeeze Peta Cudlin & some pipe cleaner bloke waffle on & on about Victoria's mounting debt & 'draconian' behaviour.!!

The pipe cleaner even called the VicGov the peoples republic of Victoria! & The CCP!! Nothing about the TaLibs & NSWLibs??????

Talk about deflect deflect. Sky fake news are pathetic to say the least.

I guess they have their braindead constituency to hand feed shyte like that.

EOR. ;)
He should be feeling the pressure from conservatives over all of this spending.
How? No airline is profitable in the next two years unless something miraculous happens.
Apparently Virgin is $5b in debt but need $1.4b to survive. We need two airlines but not like this.
