In a good place
AFL Club
Collingwood
Other Teams
NBA Winning Machines/Dallas Cowboys
Put it on the backburner for a year or 2. its run its course

Stay home and build our fitness base here in the hot sun and sand dunes. Work on kicking skills and defensive structures on a footy field not a rectangle. Use these awesome training facilities that we keep hearing about.

You never know, it might increase morale too.because there is not one bit of esprit de corp in this club at the moment. Too many pretenders living off past glory, talking s**t in the media, who dont want to go and get the hard pill.

Two of the things you have suggested are BETTER done by our altitude trips.

Getting fitness benefits quicker (in altitude) allows the team to do more ball work when they get home than running work. That is the main reason why it is done.

Also, the players and coaches rave about the team-building abilities of going away for a month with the team. So both of the things you said are actually ACHIEVED through our altitude training program, not despite it...

Blind freddy can see over the past 2 years our fitness base during the season actual has been pathetic. we might come back super fit and it lasts a month or two but it certainly isn't giving us a edge during the season.we dont run both ways, we are a extremely slow and unfit club.If its giving us more time to work on our foot skills its simply not working.perhaps its time to go back to a traditional model.

and team building....have a look at our team compared to say a port, freo or a Swans and ask us if we are playing for each other.

I actually think we should go the other way and stay at altitude for longer.

You look at most track and field athletes who do altitude training and they stay at altitude for a decent period of time, definitely longer than 2 weeks anyway.

Either scrap it or stay longer, what we are doing now is giving us no significant advantage, that's what it seems like anyway.

Agreed

Less focus on the expensive bullshit that only serves the purpose of the club big noting themselves (Utah, leading teams, tailored jumpers that change depending on the weather, state of the art spa facilities).

More focus on kicking skills and building fitness with a tough, gruelling pre season.

Bucks talked about changing the culture of the team.

I am fed up with all the finger pointing and ranting with each other on the field.

If they want to come together as a team which knows how to overcome physical and mental adversity, look after each other as mates and develop self-sacrifice, then maybe they should spend a week in PNG conquering the Kokoda Trail.

Sunday session?

I've been bleating on about this for the last 2 years but we need to change out Buttifant and there's a big chance it's going to happen as he hasn't indicated he wants to take his last year option. Not because there's anything wrong with him or his program but after a long time with the same fitness trainer it's very hard to maintain that training edge. A new direction will only be good assuming the next guy is, well, good. It's simply time for a change there.

Why?

The "bonding" experience that comes with it IMO is invaluable with the coach's new stamp on things- particularly with so many new and young players being integrated into the group such as Kennedy, Grundy, Broomhead, Ramsay and any potential new recruits.

At the end of the day, it's a training camp. Every team worldwide does this somewhere.

Interestingly, there's been no mention of it on the club's website. Previous years they've had the dates, etc up there by the end of the season and used it as opportunity to fundraise by offering a small number of places for those with the time and $$$$$ to go. Been dead quiet on it, maybe the departure of Buttifant and focus on hiring a replacement has changed the plans somewhat.

I read somewhere (either herald sun or afl website) in a Copeland wrap up that they mentioned spending summer at home. I hope we do, or spend a week in Tassie or similar. Closer to home anyway. We took young recruits - Jack Paine etc - to Tassie for a training and bonding camp a few years back.
Freshen things up, travelling is pretty taxing on the body. I'm all for mixing it all up.

My thoughts exactly. The club by this time is normally promoting the trip, and selling places to corporates for a lazy $25k or thereabouts so they can 'train' (code for being tortured) with the Pies.

Heard from a player on Friday night at the after-party. That they will not be doing preseason in Arizona/Utah and will be training down here :) Just to clear it up

Simple fact is we have no edge in fitness with the overseas thing that I can see, so stay at home and yes learn to kick while you're at it.

Did port go overseas last year? They were the fittest side in the comp (judging by their 4th quarter wins vs the rest of the comp).
