Interesting post.

I think the game vs. St. Kilda is the perfect example to reiterate what your saying. The first half (quarter?) he over-thought everything. I think they kicked something like 5 unanswered goals in 10 mins. But then Ratten told all the boys to just take the game on, as we had nothing to lose. We lost but played one hell of a game, probably in the top 3 performances of last year IMO.

I think we just seem to do one too many unnecessary handballs/ kicks. Generally, its that extra handball that gets us in trouble. And i think this is a result of over-thinking. Whilst every team needs some structure and guidance, they also need a little bit of slack on the leash from time to time.

Thats correct. Also, the Geelong game we took them on for 4 quarters and stunned everyone. We didnt try to tactially beat them IMO, it was just go out there and take them on. They are the best in the league and if you try to muscle the game from them with tactics you just wont win.

Run, draw a man, roll the dice, back your skills in.

Also while im at it - dont coach the skills out of the players. Let Andy Walker attack. Its what hes good at. Have you seen him get off his man with the ball and run? Its Judd-esque. Stop using him as a defender and let him be that lethal player we know he is. We dont need him in the backline anymore those days are over. Its time for punishing runs through the midfield. When you look at him, Waite and Bower, thats 3 reasons why we should be penetrating through that half back line with ease.
