Second best midfield in AFL?

I don't think there's a point asking which team has the best mid-field in the comp, as it's obviously WCE.

So who has the second best midfield?

not too shabby at all, If Gardiner ever gets up and rucks who knows how far they could go.

Hard to split Hawks and Geelong, both teams are flying and it's because of the midfield's.

Hope one of them can bring home the cup in the very short future.

Where does Hodge play?

His coach said two weeks ago that he likes to play him off a HBF because he is a general but will throw him forward at times.

I know he plays burts, but can he realy be clasified as a midfielder yet?

Saints should:Hayes, Dal Santo, Ball and Harvey.

But they just dont perform often enough and cant win games out of the midfield.

Geelong have the best midfield output wise with:Bartel, Ablett, Chapmen, Ling , Corey, Enright, Prismall, Selwood and Blake as the Ruckman.

Hawthorn do have a great Midfield too with:Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Sewell, Crawford, Bateman, Ladson and Taylor is improving in the Ruck.

They were slow - chuck in the pace and smarts of Ablett, give Stokes and Chapman a run in there and their midfield is definitely close to the second best.

Luke Ball is a specialist tackler, nothing more. I have yet to see him play decent footy (a few games aside).

Throw in Kelly and you are correct. This is why our midfield is so dominant this year; many of our players (Kelly/Tenace/Selwood) who we have not had or not had up to scratch in the past are all playing well.

It is the midfield rotations that give Geelong its edge in the midfield, similar to WC’s Kerr, Cousins, Judd, Fletcher, Embly, Cox, Seabe, etc - when they are not in trouble for some reason.

Ball = expert tackler, not that great
Harvey = too old and injury prone - never play at his best again (pains me to say)
Hayes = Gun
Del Santo = cant break a good tag
