Sellar, Walker & Jericho

It must be said that the handling of Walkers non selection was not handled very well by AFC imo. Had to hear on the news that he was not even in the squad. By all reports fairly dissapointed with a short time to recover his thoughts and focus on the Sanfl game against Centrals.Surely with al the ducks and drakes played by officials of the AFC during the week communication with an 18 year old that has had so much said in the last two weeks and perhaps feeling that he may get a run this week he could have been told earlier that he was not REALLY in the mix and that his time will come but later !
Think this game could be season defining for the AFC and several players and wish everyone well as footy is a fickle business and a week is a long time !

For a club that prides itself on its professionalism thats pretty poor.

Ditto. He's had 2 bad games and suddenly he's a dud. Same thing could be said for this board's attitude to Gill, Shirley, Edwards, Knights, Massie and Stephens!! How about taking a longer term view, like 4 weeks :D

wtf.

Longer term view?

How bout, Kenny was shit last year as well, and how about he was only just above average the year before.

He played one good game last year, the 4 goal game against the hawks, kicked all his goals in the first half, where was he in the second? Nowhere, for some reason based on that he was given a 2 year contract, now he appeared to be very out of favour prior to that game.

Kenny was done last year.

Lay off the 2 bad games bullshit.

He was injured early last year, what is his excuse this year?

Doesn't have any, just too slow. Delist.

And hey, "putting your body on the line" is all well and good, but when you only get 1 possession and have a couple of clangers and only get -3 dreamteam points then it kinda counts for shit, I'd rather a player that played his position well, over a player that "puts his body on the line" Because putting your body on the line doesn't exactly help the team, it certainly hasn't the umpteen times kenny has crashed into packs while the ball falls to the ground and picked up by an opposition player. The bloke is a champ, but he is done in AFL footy.

Did you even watch the elimination final against Hawthorn last year???? Kenny hadn't played an AFL game for the Crows in 5 weeks, was called up for the final (of all things) and kicked 4 goals! Not bad for a has-been. If we had have won that game, he would have been a hero! As much as I think his time may be up, I always remember back to that game (when most had written him off then).

For all the Sellar haters, McDermott said in The Advertiser today:

One of SA's favourite sons, Stephen Kernahan, did not move to Carlton and hit the big time until he was 22. When "Chiphead" finally pulled stumps he'd played 251 games and was captain of Carlton for a record 226 matches.
The Crows' first-round draft selection in 2006, James Sellar, must remind himself of that as he wallows in the Glenelg reserves.

As much as i think McDermott's off his rocker sometimes, i agree with him here. He's a 19yo KPP, give him some time.

guh....bigfooty ruined my post.

PS everyone knows sellar is a gun.

i heard from a reliable source* hes actually good enough to be our CHF right now, but has been told to play shit so we can just bring him into the GF and he will kick 12.

*alcoholic gambling addict i met at the arkaba once.

Jericho - didn't see any power running out there today, except the Power runners who kept overtaking you whilst you jogged to each and every contest.

I'm glad you can kick a mile, but maybe you want to get the ball too?

He does still have 1 year to run on his contract. Signing him for an extra 2 years was one of the dumbest decisions the club has made in years.

The club now has 3 options (in order of preference):
  1. KMac retires gracefully, removing the club's obligation to pay out the contract.
  2. Terminate the contract early, paying out KMac's salary for 2009 (which is then included in the 2009 salary cap).
  3. KMac is retained on the team list for 2009.

I will be bitterly disappointed if the club opts for #3.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing Vader...
When making a call like this, you have to factor in that the AFC had lost 2 talls already to injuries - Hentschel & Biglands, Tippett was no guarantee given his injury history and overall we had a clearly vertically challenged side - no Moran, Griffin wasn't season fit etc.
Whilst McGregor has obviously been a disappointment this season, he's also been played largely out of position (read Bock - pre 2008).
I wouldn't expect him to take option 1 as who would give up a year's salary when he's still young enough to continue (albeit at SANFL level) leacing no. 2 by far the best option.

Not really, it seemed a bizarre decision even at the time of his signature.

He had been out of favour for most of the latter half of the season, having been dropped after R18 and not playing in the last 4 games of the H&A season. He'd also been omitted for the first half of the season, only really coming into the team when injuries forced the hands of the selectors.

He did play well in the first half of the EF against the Hawks, upon his return to the seniors.

It was apparent to all and sundry that his loss of pace was now a permanent feature and not just a temporary injury induced problem as suspected in 2005 (most notably in the infamous "basketball crap" game against Richmond).

At the end of the year, he felt that he was not part of the Crows longer term plans and tried to shop himself around. He got no nibbles from elsewhere and re-signed when the club offered him a 2-year deal.

Look back to the threads from the time and you'll find that many of us were wondering why he got 2 years - particularly when Gill (who performed significantly better in late 2007) was only given a 1-year deal.
