Shocker against Crows, BUT Blues are still progressing

So if we beat the Eagles next week you'll then claim we've taken a heap of steps forward ?

The facts are that we have been sub-standard in three interstate games this year, and at this point we have NOT improved on last year.

The coaching tactics by Ratten & co in the first quarter was a disgrace, we had a four goal breeze and Fevola was being played as lead up CHF, he is our only forward option and being played in this role was a joke.

We still have too many players that are seriously not up to standard, and a forward line that lacks some spark and a real quality tall lead up CHF.
l think alot of us myself included have over-rated our list in terms of were we really are, and that is long way off the best two to three teams going round.

I couldnt disagree more with this thread, we havent made a lot of progress this year in my opinion, 4 and 5 is a really disappoitning result considering we had a good draw to start the year, and it only gets harder.......we are a laughing stock atm, its funny when we play team who shut down the game we look clueless and have no way back, i think the only real positive this year has been the form of judd, murphy and bower, and maybe to an extent kruezer, these so called passengers need to stand up and be counted, the losses w have had have shown we have gone back to old habits

Carlton held up the play because we lacked tall targets inside 50 minus Waite and the pace to run the ball inside 50.

I think BG is playing with injury too if he's that poor by foot.

Everyone was quick to pot Ratten, yet it was Ratten's moves after half time that got us back in the game and created four or five unanswered goals.

That would be when we can get Waite into our forward line :thumbsd:

I agree general, but up until Saturday I had thought it was a hand injury as his hand balling has been...well...a little untidy. Now his foot skills are in question

Reactive coaching, the game was gone. Perhaps it was Craig's wonderful coaching that won the game with 8 or so unanswered goals in the first half. Is he coaching to win, lose or draw? I honestly don't know anymore. I don't think Ratten does either.

What has occurred since we lost to the bombers, sure we lost, but it was open football, fast, flowing, more to the point we had a chance. Now its almost painful to watch this side. Forget the Woods win, with their outs how could we lose, tbh though, that win was far from convincing.

It hurts to say this, but if we had Melbourne next weekend..

When was the last time were were in the top 8 for the first 8 rounds of a season?

Probably since 01 I'd say... that alone proves how much we're progressing.

This is a fair point, all is not lost, if we can find some form and string 3 wins together I suspect we could be top 4.

In truth tho Mr X, there is another 6 or 7 sides that could say the same thing, I guess their fans may actually doing that in their forums right now.

I sense a lot of posters consider this to be a wasted opportunity, IF we had won some of those games, we could be sitting 3rd or 4th. Lets clarify this, we are losing the close ones, not a good sign, last year we pulled a few of those out of the bag.

Anyway, it's only round 10, if they can come together as a team, we all know what they can do. Lets just hope that is sooner rather than later :)

BTW, if we beat the eagles next week it proves nothing, apart from the fact we can win the odd game (make no mistake, that's where we are right now. Other sides have us ticked off as 4 points), its the 2 games after that which will tell us a lot, and most likely make or break our season.

Big 3 weeks coming up!

Obviously a bad day for you guys but I though Bower was excellent. Never really noticed him before but he was very good.

Will take a while for you to develop the bottom half of your 22. Judd was never going to be the magic elixir, as good as he is.

How dare you invade our board??

And make more sense than 95% of our own hysterical 'supporters'

;)

not sure if its been posted here yet but a small article in the advertiser over here this morning mentions fev and others were seen out late heading into a nightclub etc. not sure if these blokes are learning anything on the field or off the field...

 Seriously, enough with the sugar coating please.

We're playing like shit and getting coached like shit. No other way to put it.

After 7 years of no finals, it should be about more than progressing or being on the improve.

It's not sugar coating.

Were the skills and application up to what we expect ?? No.

It wasn't good enough, agreed.

Bar, the top few and bottom few, it is a very even comp. Any side that is up on the day can win.

Carlton fans on this board are getting ahead of themselves and expecting a level of performance and consistency from our younger group that won't be there yet.

Our core of the next premiership isn't now, but will be a few years time, 100-120 games in Gibbs, Murph, Kreuz, Yarran, we haven't seen the best of Gibbs, Kreuzer and Yarran and possibly even Murphy yet. Judd, Simpson, Waite and Walker as the senior group....by a supporting cast with more games into them: Austin, Bower, Robinson, AJ, and some finals experience.

As has already been identified, Adelaide and Sydney play styles of footy we are struggling against.

We will learn from it.

We got two more games (with good returns) into Austin and Yarran.

If you aren't excited about where Yarran will be with a couple of pre-seasons into him, you don't have a pulse.

The loss of Walker and Grigg, and now Waite, and absence of Warnock are huge outs to our structure and ability to tackle the styles of sides like Adelaide and Sydney.
