Hey Guys,

I saw on the HS website that JW may be dropped this week.

Do you think he should be dropped and play VFL untill he 'earns' a game and plays his way back in?

Or alternativley, should the club be content with his so far, sub standard performances.

I always hear from alot of MFC supporters that the kid has no confidence etc, Why the hell dont they take the kid off the big stage, develop and get some confidence away from the spotlight!

If it takes 10 weeks in the 2s for the penny to drop, i dont think it could be such a bad thing. It may even shake him up enough to attack contests with some vigour and hunger.

Just wanted to know MFC supporters views on this sometimes touchy topic.

If he is dropped this week for a game against GC I will rage to no end, this is a great opportunity to play him were he is intended to be, in the forward line.

Re earning a game, I think there are other players who are ahead of him being dropped if we look at the season as a whole.

Nice subtle troll, how about you leave the JW discussion to us. ;)

The match against GC is a perfect opportunity for Jack to actually gain some confidence at AFL level.

Would be quite frustrated if he was dropped, to be honest.

Jesus Crimson aruse, don’t take things so personally. It’s hardly a subtle troll. I am on a football forum aren’t I?

I am simply trying to discuss a football issue, with opposition supporters yet I am a troll? Get a grip mate, or at least a thicker skin.
Cannons, I forgot you guys were playing Gold Coast. That begs another question though. If you were Dean Bailey, what would you do if he didn’t put in a good game this weekend? Or at least a really good hard competitive effort?

He's got that covered. We're still playing the Suns :p

Whoops. Voted yes, he shouldn't be dropped this week as it is a great opportunity to get some confidence.

If there is a Casey game next week when we have the bye, he should play that as well!

Nope, I would leave him in for the Suns, he has no excuses this week against primarily 18 yr olds and experiments such as Hunt. It will be a good test for him in the forward 50!

If he fails this week...Casey is a must until he proves otherwise.

Can you explain in detail how he hasn't earnt a game & how he is sub standard?

You say your simply asking us a question but are making statements like he is "sub standard" & hasn't "earned" a game.

I just think if you’re going to come on our board & make the above highlighted claims then at least give them some substance & provide us with some detail to support you statements, that’s all I want.

I would expect the same of myself if I was going onto your board.

Thanks for the education, I was wondering what I've been doing on here for the last four years.

I dont think he should be dropped.
Melbourne are not contending for a premiership this year, so need to get as many games into him as possible. Just like Clarkson did with Roughead and Franklin. It helps fast track there development.
He shows glimpses of what could be. Remember also when drafted he was a bottom aged player.
I remember Roughead in 2006 - I called him a nearly there player. He nearly took the mark, he nearly kicked the goal etc etc. Half way through that year, it finally clicked for him. Franklin was a late withdrawal against carlton. Roughead became the focal point and he kicked 5 - it was like a light went on and he started to believe that he belonged. Those marks he previously was missing now were sticking.
I see Watts in the same vein. He is probably 3 years off his ideal size/strength combination - but the more expeirience the faster he will develope.

Have to agree with you to be honest a good chance to find some form ..then lose it next week with the bye.

They might play Hunt on Watts. :D

I agree if he does nothing this week then he might need to be looked at but theres no way he should be dropped this week.

Should not be dropped!!!! Playing poorly against the gold coast is hardly a criteria for dropping jack though, what if Bock goes to him? and experienced and quality defender

Him playing at Casey during the bye is a must though, as it is for as many of our younger 1st 22 as possible, trenners, bennel, gysberts, tappy, bail

I agree with most he should play this weekend but if he struggles again drop him. He seems to be lacking aggression and work-rate which is a key ingredient in being a key position forward.

Also if we drop him who do we replace him with? whats happening with newton? he's been on this list for years... We drop him to the rookie list then we promote him for 1 game then drop him again for the rest of the season and then retain him as a rookie??? Im very confused with there thinking with him, why dont we play him??

Thoughts?

Lucky for Jack's sake that Michael Newton has been suspended for a week. Laugh all you want at the thought of Juice coming back into the side but his performances at Casey can't keep being ignored. 11 goals in the last two matches is a very good return while Jack Watts is spudding it up at the Demons on a regular basis. I know a lot of people will argue that Jack is the future and Newton has had his chances and clearly isn't up to it. Well the Demons are in the business of winning football matches and right at this point in time Juice is going to be more help to us than Jack is.

I hope he pulls his finger out and puts in a good performance against the GC this week, but if he doesn't I think it is time he returned to the Scorps for a while to work at his game.

i actually think that newton needs to come in and play in the team WITH watts and Jurruh... surely it will give them a major cutout... i mean seriously we have kept him on the list and hes already been upgraded to the rookie list so I cant see why we wouldnt play him... hes the best forward at casey at the mom and a big target which is EXACTLY wat we need rite now... i no ppl will give me a caining for saying this but i seriously rekon it will help our structure and maybe, just mayb the penny has dropped for Juice and a miracle has occured... not that i am overly hopeful that this has occurred... (yes i no he cant play this week but for the eagles game hes in my side)

I'm not against him being in if form warrants it & at the moment it does, for him to play though Dunn or Petterd would need to be the sub because if he turns into a potato like he always has when he gets a game at AFL level then he can be subbed out for another forward.

For the sake of taking a big defender it might just help free up Jurrah or Watts a bit more (if Watts was to play forward that is). 11 goals in his last two VFL games says hes in form, really bad timing to get suspended for him or he might have got a game.

I didn't want to go right into why I think he is sub-standard because I think I'll probably be carded but here goes:

Jack Watts needs to be more aggressive. Not just at the man, at the ball at everything.
He also needs to not write anymore articles stating he is ready and comparing himself with Barry Hall until he strings a few together.
Jack Watts needs to have more presence when he is out on the footy field. If he isnt going to mark it, he needs to hit the packs harder, even if he is light he still can have more impact on the contest.
He needs to take a game by the scruff, just to get some confidence. The problem is, he hasnt yet, its killing his confidence and self esteem you would imagine. Thats why i think he should be given a few weeks away from the spotlight, in the 2s.

Alot of people state he lacks confidence, what better way than ripping up the VFL for a few weeks. Whats happening now, IMO is not fast tracking JW, he is struiggling most weeks and not really noticably improving ATM the way thngs are.

1. when has he ever done that???????

2. He is hitting the packs substantially harder, as evidenced by his 5 spoils in round 1 against sydney, most of which were up around the wing

3. he has noticeably improved from last year, not recognising that shows you haven't watched him closely enough

have you watched him play this season? or simply looked at his stats?

In principle I don't think he should be undroppable simply because we want to get games into him but I wouldn't drop him just yet. The GC game could be a benchmark game for Watts (depending on who plays on him and how we use him) which I think he really needs.

I must admit though (for various reasons) I would find it interesting to see how he went playing for Casey and how he would actually be used.

Yeah... Whatever your intentions were one things for sure- you're a dik :thumbsu:

Watts should definitely stay in the team- but a poor performance this week and he may well find himself in the magoos.

H31, happy to discuss this, but the next topic should be the wisdom of selecting Gumbo at 2 in the 2006 Draft . . . . . . .

Who is laughing?

Juice should be an immediate inclusion after the bye. Not necessarily at the expense of Watts, just get him in.

It's also the headline for the Round 4 Teams article. Can't the HS just **** off and find something else to bang on about? It must be Jack Watts week there.

Absolutely no point in dropping him, this is another development year (clearly, on the back of our recent games) and his form over 22 games will go a long way in seeing whether he can make the grade
