Sorry Mark's Girl but he's wasting away with his injuries and his body is getting too old for the game. Not recovering as quick as he should be.

So I post this question to the board; M Stevens, stay or retire?

Unfortunately for him, yes. He has been a good player for us, but we must now look to the future and an injury-prone workhorse getting towards 30 isn't what we need to be building our team around.

I'd keep Perrie if we don't trade him to a Perth club, just as a stopgap CHF.

Stevo, for his own sake, should probably retire just to save his knees from being replaced by prosthetics.

I am a HUGE Mark Stevens BUT I think its time for Stevo to hang 'em up. Not only for Stevo but for everyone else that doesn't have 3 years of AFL footy left in them.

We need to enter a gruelling rebuilding period and we need to get rid off some of the players that are injury prone and are in the twilight of their careers. If Stevo's body was to hold he would be great to direct the youngsters on the field BUT it has become painfully clear that his bbody is washed up and he has squeezed out of it as much as he possibly could.

I actually read that as being replaced by prostitutes when I first read it!! :D :D

Back on topic.

It's time to go ..................................................... Stevo!!

Unfortunately. :(

No, keep him playing, playing too many youngsters at once especially in the forward line is a recipe for disaster, even if he plays 10 games next season its worth it.

Well, that would also be a problem he would have to consider.

You wouldn't get much sleep if your knees were prostitutes would you? After all, they tend to be active at night...

'Mate, your knee is a whore!'

Well his knees are f***ed just as regularly!

No he shouldnt he proved when he came back he is a class player and if he retired he would leav a gaping hole in our forwardline which is already very deprived of a good marking forwards. Turbo will play on;)

But that's exactly it.

He is a class player - noone here disputes that whatsoever - however he never plays due to injury.

Depends on what the medics say

I would keep him as we will be getting rid of a lot of players and we need some experience in the team.

Let him finsih this year in the SANFL and see how he pulls up.

It breaks my heart to say it............but I have to agree.

If his body is giving up on him - then yes - he should retire.

Its a damn shame....he is one of our best players and we have barely seen him over the last 2 seasons.

*wipes tears*

Goodbye Stevo.

That is the key isn't it?
You will have a large turnover as it is.
Nurse him a bit, play him out of FF or a forward pocket and you may even get a few years out of him if you're lucky.
The problem with the AFC is that expectations are unrealistically too high too often.

I agree Jars - let's wait & see. I'm not giving up on Stevo just yet. If he can string a few games together this year, then he should go on in 2005. If not, then it's time for him to retire.

Eh?

It's not as if we're expecting him to be a colossus at CHF here, or because he can't we're calling for his head to roll, far from it. Everyone on this board would love for him to be able play out of a pocket or as a foil at the very least.

Problem is, he really struggles to take the field at AFL level - has managed to do so only 11 times in the past two seasons - and when he does play he quickly becomes crocked again.

We're not talking about niggles and strains, we're talking about his knees which by all reports are shot to pieces.

Will we give him one more year if he doesn't retire? Absolutely.

Will he be physically able to take the field more than five to ten times in season 2005 if he does say on - let alone play to his previous high standards? Probably not.

Bit hard to 'help the kids out' if you're struggling to hit the training track let alone play.

All true DT.
Not the angle I was coming from.
What I meant was that if he was to play next year, the expectations on him would most likely be higher than they should be.
EDIT: If he does play on, forget about how good a CHF he was, but extract every bit of experience out of him by playing him in a more static position.
IMO given the high turnover you will have this year, if there is any chance of him playing 10 or so games next year, he will be worth it ...... for the right reasons.
