Should the AFL allow Essendon to play if charged with doping ?

I think the AFL should let them play the home and away season to protect the TV rights, scheduling a meeting of the commission about a week or two out from the finals so EFC can be removed if they are likely to participate. It's what is right for the $$$.. I mean, it's what is right for the fans.

I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Are you saying ASADA may issue show causes for cases THEY THEMSELVES believe do not have the required proof to stand up at a tribunal or get passed the ADRVP
If the comments in the article are true then possibly, given I'm sure they're keen to show some output for a 15 month investigation.

I'm not sure how they can be more sure than a balance of probability if no records were kept and players don't know what they received.

They have other means of obtaining records , Prescriptions were required for Alavi to compound the substances for starters, we have no idea what they have. They very well may not have anything , they very well may have a lot more than we think

You seem to be confusing balance of probability with beyond reasonable doubt. On the balance of probabilities, Essendon used Tb4. I would go so far as to say there isn't any reasonable doubt either.

To answer the OP, no.

Remove yourself from your love of AFL, as evidenced by your bigfooty account, and pretend it was another sport. The AFL's, nay, Australia's integrity in sport and anti-doping / anti-cheating comes into question if they are allowed to play. Might as well just label us the Chinese swimming team or East Germany while we are at it. The cost is too high.

Not tb4 though

The balance of probability when you add: TB4 Supplied to Dank , Charters dosage instructions on Tb4 to Dank appearing on consent forms , Essendon receiving invoice for Thymosin from Alavi where only TB4 was compounded according to Charge sheet plus admissions players were injected with a type of Thymosin .

I would say that's reasonable to at least take to a tribunal.

A BANNED horseracing peptide has become the focus of the anti-doping case against the Essendon Football Club.

In a development that could embroil the entire playing list, the Bombers will be formally asked to answer allegations they took the banned peptide, thymosin beta-4.

AOD9604, is now known to be banned but early confusion over its status means the case against the Bombers will not involve that drug

Not tb4 though

I think there may be proof that the only Thymosin in their supply chain was beta 4 type.

Players have to be conscious of how they handle the show cause, say you believe I took it point out why you should have reduced penalty (believed it to be another drug) or fight it and risk full 2 year ban. That would be an individual decision depending on players career stage.

Mexican drug is still an interesting one though.....

That's a nice little headline for the Hun reading drones tomorrow morning. They'll be in a pissy mood after reading Abbott's lil surprises on the front page.....then turn the paper over and have "Essendon have been pumping their players with Horse Drugs" staring them in the face.

Hirdy...The Golden One.....make that The Reviled One.

Dank to Hird: Thymosin and Ubiquinone start this week. Then we'll see some real results.

Hird to Dank: Great work Steve.

That's pretty much it - really easy to argue against though

I'll try it.

Danky ordered some of the good thymosin from another supplier but he cant remember who, and we paid cash for it so no invoices there. That good thymosin we used it all up (even though it has no performance enhancing use). Now for the bad Thymosin, yeah Danky ordered it by accident and he tipped it all out cos we couldn't use it

What about the Albuquerque taco juice we were injecting?

Or did that actually not exist after all?

Well they might just keep some things up their sleeve to wheel out if the thymosin charge doesn't stick

Sportsmen get done for intent if they order a supplement that they didn't know had prohibited ingredients. It doesn't matter if they used it or not.

Therefore I would assume that sportsmen can be done for intent if they intended to receive an injection that they didn't know was prohibited.

In his defence though there is some good science behind that if only they would listen to him. Perhaps he can prepare the science defence for the players when they get the show cause? As their practitioner surely the care should extend to helping them with their ASADA paperwork when received.

Is that the good Thymosin or the Thymomodulin or the pixie dust

What integrity? If you spend any time out of Australia, you realise we are considered sooks about other countries doping, yet constantly make excuses for our own.

If you can find a vid of the press conference that Warnie got busted, you will hear the comments about it. We must be the only country that has let off an olympic athlete for saying their coach gave them the banned drugs (Sam Reily)

Why wouldn't they go after everything they can, while they can? Interesting that AOD wasn't mentioned on Dank's show cause and the burrito salsa juice is apparently not going to be mentioned on the player's show causes.

They'd want to be pretty certain they have the right thymosin. Although that's easy to do when you ignore Jobe Watson's testimony.
