Should Collingwood just play Thomas right from round one. I remember when Paul Williams made his debut it was a surprise and he did quite well. Other teams seem to take a punt on top 5 pick youngsters early in the season.

Let's see how he goes on Saturday first. Then the NAB Cup. Then if he's good enough, he might be considered for H&A.

He's bloody skinny, but I have a gut feel that he will play fairly early on. His pace and flair should see to that.

I would like to see him play all 22 games. He is a no.2 draft pick, and we want a new champion, and it could be ten more years before we get another draft pick inside the top 10!

I like your optimism .

If he is ready then play him.

Yeah i say play him, the sooner he gets afl exp the better and classy he will become, and the sooner we get a classy midfielder too. I just want to see him play he sounds pretty good from what you are all saying.

It's a good trait to have "A LOT" of optimism

So how did he go in the intra-club? any word yet?

From the Collingwood website.

"A lot of interest will be centred on the club's recent crop of draftees in the coming season and onballer Dale Thomas showed why the Pies used the second pick overall on him in last years' draft.

The 18-year-old displayed poise beyond his years on the ball and off a half-back flank and looks to have benefited from a summer in the gym.

Malthouse expressed his delight with Thomas' game and was satisfied with the performance of his new flock of Magpies as a whole."

Looks like some opposition fans might just be about to eat their own words.

Yesterday's game got the fans onto the kid, so hopefully he does play round 1. No.2 draft pick, no risk will be taken, he is a future star, that is for sure.

Yeah from what I have heard and read about the intra club game, sounds like he should be playing afl from rnd 1. I hope so, as the sooner he gets to play AFL the better he is going to get, and he is already quite good now.

Absolutely he should play... if anything it will assist his development... Deledio / Cooney are prime examples

His body size is only thr concern but despite his small frame he still goes in their and does the 1% tackling, shepharding disregarding what opponent he may have to face. He shows a lot of courage considering his size. It is only his size that is stopping him from playing. The hype usually of a top draft pick can apply a lot of pressure and this may refrain Malthouse from playing him. From what I have seen on him, from the TAC cup, training and intra-clubs he is really pushing to play and I would love to see him play a.s.a.p. I'd say he's ready to play however, its just whether we're going to place him straight away. He has high AFL potential. I say play him, let him learn the game and he can only improve his game as he is immersed into afl.

The good thing about Daisy is that we are getting someone who will do the 1%'ers at least when he is not doing the mercurial stuff. That is why I think he will succeed the most!

I agree, hopefully size won't matter and the kid can get some invaluable experience and at the same time his youth and enthusiasm can push the older guys aswell. If Carlton intend to play Murphy the garden gnome, then surely Daisy has a chance.
