Should we tank?

Now before you all go and shoot me down hear me out!
This weeks performances was PATHETIC and against a struggling side, it basically kills of any hope of finals this year.
What I am suggesting, should we maybe just play the kids even a couple out of position Ala tigers game last year to secure a high draft pick in a comprimised draft? Imagine picking up another tregove, skully or martin? Or even a power forward to add to our wealth of talented kids?
We would soon be a power house
So my question should we tank again for picks?

Absolutely not. We need our kids to gather experience through winning games of football. At the end of the year if we feel we need to add an extra player for a particular position, we can trade for a higher pick or pick up an older player to fill the void. Short answer-no.

We've done enough tanking/list-management/recruiting. We are in a development stage now and that should be our sole focus for the rest of this year, and probably next year too. If we happen to finish lower on the ladder than where we currently sit, due to taking a developemental strategy from here on out, then so be it - we land another high(ish) draft pick. But I for one am not interested in discussing it or hoping for it.

A little part of me died when I noticed this thread on the board. If we were to end up chasing draft picks like that again this year, for God's sake, shoot me right there and then.

Lol, re-reading my post I understand it sounds a little bit "wink wink nudge nudge". But no, I do not want the MFC to chase draft draft picks this year. I want to win every game, but (for example) I don't think the selection committee should be too worried about the "strength" of a selected team if it means saying (for example) that Watts will play every game for the rest of the year regardless of form.

I'm not pro-tanking, but I am pro-playing the kids a bit more in the later half of the year, as opposed to the Rivers, PJ and Miller types. In that sense, I'm more about developing the youth on our list rather than sticking with some of the guys who won't really take us anywhere in the future (Rivers may still have a role in the future, but I can't be sure at this point).

As such, if taking a youth oriented, forward thinking approach to the remainder of this season is considering 'tanking' then, by all means, call me an advocate of the tank. I just feel this sort of strategy is better for the long-term future of the club than hanging on to the men of yesterday.

This is not tanking. Tanking implies not trying. There is a massive difference between developing your team and your young players and tanking. Please, no more talk of tanking.

I don't think we should tank, and neither should we hand games out to guys who can't be decent at VFL level, but we should start to play more of the future I think.

I'd love to see Bruce or Rivers and Miller dropped for a ruckman (which pretty much has to be Spencer) and to give another young defender a go. I'd like Grimes to have more time in the middle.

Bail, Gysberts, Strauss, Bennell should get more games.

that should read 'were a struggling side'...there form for the last month has been good (they would be a good chance against anyone atm)...don't tank, develop the kids and keep your brand of footy moving forward, the wins you have had so far have been great to watch...

I think you are missing the bit where Miller played ruck. Having said that if we want to bring our team into disrepute again we can simply play PJ in ruck, that way it isn't so obvious.

We'll play as many kids as possible within reason as the season goes on anyway but thanks for convoluting the whole tanking issue.
