Load up on draft/topend pick/s.

Watching Steele today, highlighted the quality in this years draft. I think we're a long way behind Geelong & Hawthorn & by the time our window happens, the likes of a Didak (who despite reports, will be shopped around. Some senior players are yet to talk to him since the incident) will be past their peak when we challenge.

Having 2 picks inside the top 10 (11 close enough) would be crucial given the upcoming comprimized drafts.

i agree with this. have heard didak has been safe for weeks now... was never in any real danger after the first week or 2 had passed and tempers cooled.....my info was from a carlton person - carltank were more interesred in dids than people actually know...

Fairly certain. Maxwell & Josh don't want Didak to stay, 1 of them hasn't even spoken to Didak since the incident.
Pretty sure both players are amazingly inferior to Didak.

If they don't want to be at a club with Didak, they can take on of the exists from the Lexus Centre.

Maxwell struggles to make our best 22, Fraser has the heart of a pea. Lets look at member reaction to getting rid of didak because of the opinion of these two.

Didak will not go anywhere, especially seeing
A) We want Ben Cousins - contradiction
B) We are interested in Kerr - contradicion
C) Heath was driving and lied - much worse that alan
D) Rhys shaw is getting traded first - cant lose all experience, especially if johnson goes.

Sorry Lupton but just will not happen mate

Who gives a XXXX about what those 2 think.
Didak is a better player than both of them.
No one is going to ask them.
I'd take Didak any day of the week over most AFL players, let alone those 2.
Didak is staying. He is the best player we have.
You don't throw away your best player.

I'm not opposed to us offloading Didak for a mix of high draft picks and talented young players. Yeah its a gamble given that you're taking a punt on unproven talent, but I'm confident in our current recruitment team and development coaches. There seems to be quiet a lot of talent in this year's draft so it may be a good time to make the leap of faith.

I'm fine with us keeping Didak, but I agree that we're probably about two to three years off being a genuine contender and Didak will be 28 and coming out of his prime. I'm sure he'll still be a top player just not a gun, or not a gun for long while we're a real challenger.

One of the leadership group hasnt spoken to Didak since the incident??? WTF. Well who ever that is that hasnt spoken to Dids since the incident is not worthy of the "leadership" group let alone the Captaincy! Not a leader at all. lets just remember theres only one of the 3 who's played well enough to win a Copeland.

Whoever of those two havn't spoken to Didak needs to grow up and shouldn't be considered for the captaincy.

What utter crap BONUSPOINTS. He will not be coming out of his gun stage at 28. What pipe are you smoking?

Ease up champ, don't get your panties in a bunch. Not saying he'll be a spud or an average player. Trying to say that he'll be starting to come down from the peak of his ability. Might be small and minor or it might be quiet a drop depending on whether he gets a major injury (fingers crossed and touching wood that doesn't happen).

If we could get fair compensation for Didak, we probably would trade him this year. The fact is though; we can't, and therefore he'll remain a Pie.

What Didak's ability is worth is an early first round pick and a decent player, there's no way we'll get that so we'll quite rightly hold on to him.

I would only trade Didak if a very good deal came our way that would help us address our needs.

Eg. Didak + Pick 11 for Boak and Pick 4 (Port Adelaide). Then pick 4 + fringe player for pick 3 which could land us Naitanui or Rich.

Ahh its funny to see how a small unlikely idea could turn into something amazing.

Well anyway, if we trade Didak... our plan should be along those lines.

Hawthorn today proved the worth of high draft picks. Soon Carlton will be contending with these picks, we must be doing everything in our power to get 2 picks inside the top 10/11.

You're right there mate. The only way that happens is if we trade Didak. But don't say that too loud cos you'll get shot down, most here still think Didak will magically turn into a midfielder.:D

No. Should we continue developing the young talent that we have? Yes

Have a look at the ages of Geelong's and Hawthorn's midfields:
Geelong:
J.Selwood (20)
C.Ling (27)
C.Enright (27)
J.Corey (26)
G.Ablett (24)
J.Bartel (24)

Hawthorn:
J.Lewis (22)
S.Mitchell (25)
L.Hodge (24)
C.Young (21)
B.Sewell (24)
C.Bateman (27)

Compared to Collingwood's future m/field hopes/current:
T.Lockyer (28) - link player, less and less influence nowadays
S.Cox (22) - named on wing for semi-final. Shown he can play.
M.Clarke (20) - hard runner, could replace Lockyer as a link man/wing type.
S.Pendlebury (20) - no explanation needed
L.Davis (27) - midfield rotation
A.Didak (25) - midfield rotation
D.Swan (24) - Allready a part of the midfield
D.Thomas (21) - midfield rotation
J.McCarthy (18) - Looks the goods
S.O'Bree (29) - on the outer, about to be overtaken by McCarthy
S.Wellingham (20) - looks the goods
J.Barham (20) - unknown
B.Dick (20) - unknown, best kick at the club IMO
R.Cook (20) - struggling IMO
D.Stanley (20)- see Cook

If I was to pick 6 (like Geelong/Hawthorn, for now and the future I would probably go:
S.Pendlebury (20)
D.Swan (24)
J.McCarthy (18)
A.Didak (25)
M.Clarke (20)
D.Thomas (21)

Pendlebury and Clarke are prime users of the ball. McCarthy (eventually, he's only 18) to be a harder bodied type. Swan to continue getting a zillion possessions a game. Didak and Thomas provide a bit of dash and class.

I guess the point is that the core of our midfield is not as mature as the likes of Hawthorn and Geelong but people forget this very quickly because we happen to make finals and do well against the top teams (except Hawthorn:(), that was more Buddy related;). Some people mention how we are actually no-where near Hawthorn or Geelong but a lot of that can come down to the simple maturity of our players compared to theirs.

given Didak's body is holding up well, and his ability forward he could play top line footy until he is about 34. He could be a 50 goal kicker in his last years and preceeding that a 30 a season goal kicker that averages 20 kicks a match in a team with the least possession rate in the league.

Elite

Just curious.....

How do you know how his body is holding up?

Who knows how long he'll play for.

He'll certainly become elite if he kicks 50+ goals in his last few seasons considering he's never kicked 50+ before.

Don't get me wrong he's a great player, but lets not get too carried away.
