Skipworth to Essendon in PSD

I came on here to post a general thumbs up for Hayden Skipworth being given a second chance but couldn't see a thread. No interest from you guys?
I thought he was a good honest player who deserved another chance somewhere. I wouldn't have minded us taking him.

I'm pleased for him.

He always gave 100% when he played for us, whether he played well or not.

I hope he makes it at Essendon and gets to play games - he's a good decent young man who deserves a break. :thumbsu:

Yeah wish Skippy luck, I liked him when he was at the Crows, only small vanilla type midfield/forwards who were never going to be stars weren't exactly in high demand for us. It was a shame we couldn't find a trade for him and no one picked him up, because at the time I felt he could offer a lot to a struggling club, or one looking for a solid foil to a number of quality younger players, similar to what he'll be at Essendon. Very pleased for him and I hope he can restart his career.

Where was all this Skippy love when me and one or two others were defending him a few years ago?!

Very glad to see him get a chance elsewhere, especially after missing 2007 with a knee. A fantastic story, really. :)

Even now I'm still not sure what Essendon see in him. He's a lovely guy and a really good mentor for their youngsters, but what does he have to offer them (where it matters most) on the field?

I'm happy that Skippy has been given a second opportunity and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy, but there were valid reasons why Adelaide delisted him and I doubt that those factors have changed.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why Adelaide delisted him. I believe that year I listed him as someone I would delist. He was just someone I was always a fan of, but his time was up at the club.

What I'm saying is that he was torn apart mercilessly and very few people ever stood up for him and now we're hearing all of these people say how much they loved him while he was at the Crows. :p My views are very similar to James_37.

Its easier to be balanced in retrospect! I don't think I personally ever crossed the line from critique into blatant slander, but he does have major limitations for contemporary AFL. He is a gutsy player and selfishly I was I was hoping I'd get to see him more often in the SANFL this year, but as it stands I will definitely cheer him on in an Essendon jumper.

I must say that i was never a fan of Skippy, just as i'm not of Shirley (except of course when they are on the playing field), because i never have considered either good enough if we were trying to build up a premiership standard side. Nevertheless, despite that, i was never abusive, vitriolic or whatever in my opinions on them (i hope! :))
I've always said that anyone that can make it onto an AFL list is a good player (but thats a relative term) - my criteria is a premiership standard.

I'm really glad that Skippy did get picked up especially after that injury cost him last year the opportunity of being redrafted.

I wasn't around at the time but he was my sentimental favourite (as in, I knew he wasn't the most talented but I loved him the most anyway) Crows player back when he played. I remember actually travelling to Kadina, his home town, on my birthday a few years back to watch a Crows vs Port trial game where Skippy kicked a few goals and the Crows won.

Is never going to be even a second tier midfielder, should fit in at the Dons. However is a likeable player.

I wonder why he went to the VFL and not back to SANFL after he left us. Maybe he even knows he is not good enough, but wanted a second crack at AFL, and thus stood out in VFL???

Yeah, at the time he said it was because in the VFL he was in the back garden of ten clubs, instead of just two (one of which had already discarded him).

His manager talked him into it and thumbs up to him, especially considering Skippy was out for almost all of 2007 year with a ruptured tendon in his leg IIRC, only to come back the next year win the club's B&F and get drafted is a phenomenally good turn of events

Was a tough exit for him. Delisted by us, no one interested in trading for him, then he does his knee in Round 1 (I think?) of the next VFL season. The scrap heap beckoned. Instead he has forced his way back in to the highest level. Amazing stuff.

Cannot believe the Dons picked him up though. Was Justin Murphy unavailable?

You can't question his work ethic, huh? Once they're out of the system they rarely get back in. I'll be very interested to see how he does when he comes back for Essendon - i hope he canes it for them. Has he added any strings to his bow? We all think the game has changed in the last couple of years and become even faster, so what can he do now that got him back to the big show?
