There are a few facts that have been written that I know;

*Ablett has said he doesn't want to make a decision until end of season.
* Pickering has said Garry wont be making a decision until end of season.
* Cook has said that they are yet to hear back regarding the contract presented to Garry last October!

So what has changed....?

nothing!

Gary is doing exactly as he said months ago and that is wait until seasons end before he makes his decision. We still have a week to go before seasons end, then the matter will heat up!

Good luck cats, I hope he stays and remains a one-club player, as it will be his silver lining, because no doubt he will be remembered as one of the greatest players ever.

Sky News and bigpond sport = get the **** out, piece of shit journalism. Create a big headline then follow it up with "believed to be leaving"... ****ing idiots, not even a name of the person who wrote it. I wish people would just accept that he hasn't decided and it could go either way. Everyone around here thinks they are ****ing The Mentalist or something and can "read" what Gary is thinking. Idiots.

Priceless

you sent my tears down my cheeks

every player that has ended up at gc said they would decide at the end of the year

all them have lied, deals were done

why would he want the cats to do another preso, to keep a charade going

or to take the rest of geelong planning to the gold coast

what the gold coast have done if rip the heart out of the cats

they have tried to recruit nearly all the back office, taken coaches, fitness staff, and the clubs real marque player and legend

Yeah you got a good point, it would be good to see some evidence.

Maybe the AFL is a sham and I was thinking that when I watched it tonight, that game was bizarre in so many ways and it mirrored Geelong v Collingwood last night in lots of weird little ways.

But then its the way ball bounces, you cant predict that....but then look at Pakistan cricket, theyre just doing it under our noses now cos some big Mafioso runs them. Maybe AFL spot fixes all over the ground. make sense tonight in some ways.

So maybe Gold Coast had r*ped us, if I could get the best team in the land and make them us and Demetirou gets a few mill and some bookie gets a few mill.

Politicians do it as well, the worlds f%^ked id be trying to make money for myself like everyone else now, thats all anyone cares about and thats what dodgy clubs are starting to realise and really bank in

Look - after Prelim - we all can see that Gaz has got the on-field leadership ability - to play well on the big occasions. He can lead by example - no problems.

He is a genuine super star - can play big games - then make him captain. Let the deputy do a lot of the media work - and Gaz, as Capt. do all the major stuff (sponsors and a few other major events). Then let the deptuty vice capt. have some responsibility - and do some media stuff.

Balmey will also share the load I'm sure.

So why not ? You can build a team around Ablett. You don't usually get 2 Abletts come along very often - and this one can also can bring us a lot more joy.

I think we can renew the club - and still keep Ablett - by letting a few players go.

Bring some new blood - and in 2 years we could winning a Premiership again.

Geelong mid-fielders are good but none break the lines with pace as Ablett does. Without him we would have a very good but slow midfield.

The way will win again IMO is with more foot pace and better kicking skills. So over the next 2 seasons they need to introduce some guys of different heights/builds that have pace and can kick well to position.

If we lose Ablett we lose more than just a great mid-fielder - without him its like losing a player and half - just about.

Let him take on the responsibility to captain and rebuild the team over the next 2-3 seasons. I think it would be his greatest challenge - to be a Premiership Captain.

So lets lose a few players from the side that are good but not integral to the side. This way we can more likely afford Gary and we might trade ok. Get some ok picks for swapping players with another club.

Get Frank to buy out Sky news and then he can control what they say.
Honestly can someone tell that man to be quiet. After all that Gary put up with during the year with the Coach bullying him and continually publicly sulking he doesn't Frank telli9ng him what to think.
Frank the millionaire telling Gary that money is not the most important thing; Frank who has moved his office to Melbourne telling Gary about loyalty; Frank who had two ex Geelong players, who both left to play with other clubs, come back as his choice for the Board telling Gary that if he stays then he will be more popular( does anyone think of G Andrews and D Wade as anything but Geelong players); Frank talking about taxes-like most businesses he will pay less tax than ordinary workers-and lecturing Gary on his private affairs.
I hope that Gary stays but what a hard decision for him. Leave him alone, no more pressure, no more bullying, let him make a choice that is best for him , in his terms. And if he goes then let him know that he will be welcomed back, perhaps as a Board Member!!!!!

Sorry Andrew but I have to disagree with you. For a start you haven't mentioned how Gary feels about Geelong, his family, mates and life here, and of course his relationship with Lauren who is also a local. And when you consider the life-long support a player gets from his club for being a loyal member, a star like Ablett will be looked after for a long time after his playing days are over.

Now if you are saying that the GC will be a chance for a premiership in the next three or four years, you are dreaming! It took the WCE who are from an AFL state 5 years, The Crows and Port, also from an AFL state 7 years, and Freo are still wanting after 15 years. Then we have the non-AFL states such as Sydney, who inherited Sth Melb FC and lured superstars like Greg Willams took 20 years to win their 1st premiership, and Brisbane took 14 years and a merger with another Vic based club to lift the silver wear.

Ablett will be 27 in May next year, and that will give him about 5-6 years of potential playing at the top level (captain). If he stays at the Cattery, there is every chance the current squad, with a few “bolt-ons” could still push for another flag over the next 3-5 years, plus the support from a still talented and established team. Add a “legend” status to his CV on retirement could even see a grandstand in his name somewhere down the track, and that’s before we even consider his employment potential once retired here in Geelong. Will he get any of that on the Gold Coast?
.

i believe that gary hasnt made a decision and he will eventually stay.
fact (i believe it so...)

Excellent points about teams taking awhile to win premierships and some of the handouts some of them have needed...including WCE.

Another thing to add to that is how its a lottery who wins it really is, its so competitive, there is always a club better than you or hungrier and so many things can go wrong even in a few minutes in a final to unravel a year and an era.

So GC will be waiting another 50 years prob, so will freo, maybe even the saints and the bulldogs

Unfortunately cos of all these points I dont think it will make to a difference to GAblett cos Geelong are prob in the same boat, hopefully its cos of the simple reasons that he should say.

'Is believed to have signed"

Nothing has changed since this attention getting story hit the sky news earlier today.

Show me the proof and I will believe!

He has not signed anywhere yet.

He will not do so until after the GF.

The AFL do not want anything taking the limelight away from the GF but you can mark down an announcement the following week, more than likely either at or the day after our B&F night.

You will get these crap reports until an announcement is made but the word is that both GFC & GC are putting the figures in front of him again this week. Hence he has not signed and no clear decision has been made.

Awesome post!

Common sense at last.

I rang Ablett and told him if he left I would use my over-whelming insatiable charm on Lauren and steal her away. No doubt he has heard of my reputation as the Casanova of Perth so he quickly assured me he was staying at the Cats on the grounds I stay away from his girl.
