Being stronger now doesn't mean they will be in their prime, Valente is already a mature size which helps. Id say they are both on par for tackling with both giving multiple efforts n that regard.

Did you watch the Metro vs Allies game? I recommend going back to that game and having a good look at Rowbottom if you get a chance. Look at his game and what he does and then imagine if he was to put on more muscle and size, their is definitely something to work with where as i think what you see with Valente now is what you will get for a long period with not as much scope for development. Mind you thats not a bad thing with certain clubs wanting ready made AFL footballers which Valente should be in his first year.

i actually think you need to watch both and see how they cover the ground.
gps data would be interesting

Clark looks a bit high for me personally, do you see him as an accumulator in defense like a Laird or do you see midfield capabilities?

Clark is an elite kick of the football.
I see him as a half back who will get the ball in his hands to set up attack from the backline- Sam Docherty, Rory Laird, Shannon Hurn are all similar styles. Doesn't have the run and carry of Laird and Doherty or the size of Shannon Hurn. Maybe Lindsay Gilbee is a better example!

Another player in your top 20 in Luke Foley, what role do you see him playing at AFL level? He looks to have a good mix of inside and outside and a fair bit of scope for improvement but im having trouble rating him mostly because he is a unique player in this draft and i find it hard to compare him to other players and coming up with reasons he should go ahead of others. I do really like his kicking aswell but he can take the lazy option at times.

He looks like he will develop into a Mitch Duncan type midfielder to me.
Good size who is effective inside and outside the contest. Covers the ground well and has a change of pace.
I actually think this draft has a glittering top ten and then flattens right out.

18. Collier Dawkins - Considerably lower that a few have him , Any particular reason ?
14. Ohalloran - Really interested in this kid projected type of player he will end up to be / Which current player
also his flaws

Pie South Australia win the championships convincingly this year. But only have 5 players in this years top 30?

VM with 11 seems fair but VC seemed underwhelming and has 9 players in the top 30?

Edit in further analysis it seems like a lot of these Vic players are rated in the 20-30 range and you openly admit you see more VC than anyone else.

Winning the champs has nothing to do with the amount of players drafted, Eastern Ranges had the most players drafted last year yet they got knocked out in the first final in the TAC, means nothing

Yeah I was understanding that but why doesn’t a strong Carnival/TAC side get more drafted? Is the style of play that different or do you not need to use the same skills as at AFL? Did SA just have a more even team of contributors or did their stars which fill much of the top 15 in many rankings make a big difference?

I've got to update my rankings post-champs still because I've been in QLD the last week with the Girls Champs.

There are a few interstate ones coming into the top 30 (I already mentioned Clark is one I was really impressed with) while others will drop out (including a couple of VC).

SA I think will have a lot late/rookies because a lot of their players are developed more than Victorians (due to League and Reserves experience), therefore they are often standing out at Champs, but don't always go early - Jack Graham is one example. I dare say SA and VM will have the most drafted by the end of the draft. VC, then Allies, then WA is how I predict after that. WA did well, but think the Allies having the various Academy prospects who have stood up: Briggs/McFadyen etc. who were maybe borderline prior to the Champs are right up in contention for mid-draft selections IMO.

Also keeping in mind, VC had a fair few injuries including Mitch Riordan and Jye Caldwell for example who are top 30 prospects that you didn't see the best of.
How far does Tom fall now his football's done for the year?
Guess a fractured scaphoid won't stop him lighting up the Draft Combine like brother Jarrod?

He’s a third round plus now I feel - obviously will still be drafted. Others probably jumped ahead of him the last couple of months, plus with his injury history hasn’t been kind to him. Still a good value pick late of course, but just hasn’t had much luck.

i came into the carnival with an open mind, even though S.A. dominated all the other teams, i still had more vic metro players circled as players who should get drafted than S.A. players, i thought about it and heres my theories as to why 1) S.A. players seemed to be more Physically developed than the vic metro and this helps bust tackles, helps with stamina and 1 on 1 contests, but doesnt help you be a better player overall 2) S.A. seemed more team orientated than any other team in the carnival (coaching), always looking to pass for a better shot at goal, staying in their positions more strictly and using their team mate instead of doing things solo. 3) S.A. players seemed more advanced in their development but not as many were highly skilled or with elite attributes like pace, x-factor, clean skill, goal kicking, elite general disposal, ability to absorb pressure and still do well, ability to apply pressure for turnovers..... 4) S.A. have probably the 2 best players in the u/18's with Izak Rankine starring and Jack Lukosius being a dangerous option forward

so it was a combination of things, the reason theres always more draftable talent from vic metro than other states is because of the population and the pure numbers

Melbourne has close to 5 million people
vic country has like 1.5 million
s.a. has like 1.5 million
w.a. has like 2.5 million

There is no reason for SA kids to be.more developed than Vic kids. The facilities at TAC cup clubs are better than most SANFL clubs. The amount of money the AFL puts into the TAC cup is orders of magnitude more than is spent on SA and WA kids.

There is more scouting that goes into Vic kids due to the TAC cup system.
All the talent is there in one place. In SA and WA you have U18 kids playing in the U18 comp, private school games, the reserves comp or the seniors. Takes alot more resources to watch them. They might have to send scouts out to three different games, on three different days, at three different grounds to watch three SA kids from the same SANFL club.
GWS for instance doesnt even have scouts in SA now to watch the SA kids.
That plays a big part in why alot of Vic clubs default to a Vic kid over a WA and SA one. They have just seen far more of the Vic kid play.
