So who is the most underrated player in the AFL?

Have skimmed thread rather than reading every post dilligently, but I think Hawks posters are mistaken if they think they are the only ones who think Mitchell is an out and out gun. Love the way he goes about it, almost never wastes a posession and gets a ton of it. One of the handful of players in the league who seems to make time, but not in a hodge at his peak or pendelbury way (where every opposition player seems to have gone the wrong way), but more in that way he seems to be able to find a teammate in space at will.

Maxwell easily. All Aussie- Prem skipper who is playing an leading better than ever. Grossly underrated. If Murphy had 10% of his on field leadership presence he may not be the basket case leader he is

God help us all.

I know nobody rates Maxwell. And nor should they.

He is rubbish.

Whist everybody is salivating over Ablett, O'Meara and now David Swallow for the Suns, the best young midfielder in the AFL goes about his business without any fanfare at all.

His name is Dion Prestia. This guy doesn't look as polished as the other three but every week he gets his 30 possessions, wins the contested footy and uses the ball really well.

Certainly not the most underrated across the board but I would say Farren Ray is still an underrated player at the Saints.

I think he developed a reputation as a simple 'role player' during '09 and '10, because of his place in the Lyon gameplan. IMO He's had too many good solo performances + a few BOGs to be just another cog in the machine. Not to mention the first 19 games of his Saints career were all wins. Good endurance and athleticism, puts his body on the line (most notoriously against Selwood in round 1 2011) as well as being probably the best overhead mark in the team.

On top of that, I thought he was especially excellent in the '10 GF when moved onto Swan. Was okay in the '09 GF as well.

Far from perfect, but I reckon he's been really valuable right from his first match at the club.

From my side, Dayne Beams is ELITE and I know gets rated - but nowhere near as highly as he should be.

Alan Toovey gets little credit, too.

Competition wide, Jay Schulz & David Armitage

Trent Cotchin, still think he is one of the best 5 in the comp when he is on top form. We shouldn't judge him when he is playing poorly, all players have their ups and downs.

Hes not as good as Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Mitchell and Watson. Top 10 maybe but not top 5.
And even then I'd have Fyfe and Dangerfield at their best ahead
