Recently spoke to a crows recruiter. Told me:

Martin would have gone late first rounder if available in this draft.
Will be promoted and is valued very highly.
That's kind of a weird point to make. Is it suggesting Brodie Martin, showing what he has to date, would be a first rounder this year if available (ie suggesting just how much he's improved and how highly the club rates him), or that the draft this year is so weak that the player we took with our last rookie pick 2 years ago would be worth a first rounder this year?

Either way, he's clearly a quality young player and I continue to laugh at all those who wrote him off for being 9cms taller than Brent Harvey and 1 cm shorter than 3 time AFLPA MVP Gary Ablett Jnr.

Hopefully his return from injury is smooth and he can continue on his merry way towards becoming a quality AFL wingman.

Glad to hear how much Brodie is rated by the club, though they've always made it pretty clear that they did.

All things considered his best footy at Sturt was marginally worse than Trengrove's. Clearly Trengrove is 2 years younger (amongst other things) and hence has a higher upside, but you can see how it could be speculated that Martin could also go high. Hell, he's still younger than Lewis Jetta.

Yeah fair enough :thumbsu:

What it suggests is that the top 10 or so are gun players than you will see another 10-15 very good players. Martin if delisted right now would go in that 16-22 range. His game is suited to AFL.
The bad thing is that we need a couple of gun midf and forward crumber, which we are unlikely to get through draft this year. Therefroe from what i have heard, watch our for trades.

I think it just makes too much sense for us to trade this year. We can get away with only having 2 selections in the draft if we as expected promote Martin to the senior list.

We still have areas that we need to suggest and there are quite a few players rumoured to want out of their clubs that could be of use to us.

I expect us to be fairly active in trade week this year and would not be one bit surprised that we trade our pick 13 for a player that will be a solid addition to our side and use our 2nd and 3rd round picks to pick up some roughies or even re-draft some of the players that we might delist (eg. Moss, possibly Schmidt, Kite, Lee etc...)

It just makes too much sense for us to trade this year to add players that would address our needs.

There is no doubt that we will be heavily involved in this trade period.
We may end up trading both our 1st and 2nd round picks, because at 13 there wont be anything special, unlike the last 3 years.
Look out for midfs who arent getting game time for opposition clubs.
Luke Ball keeps on bobbling up, but i doubt it. Im hoping someone like a Sylvia or Lovett.

Don't think Lovett is Craig type player but I can certainly see us being interested in someone like Ball or Sylvia. I would be happy with either to be honest.

Given we only need a couple of midf guns and forward crumber, if we can get all 3 in this trade and draft period i think we are set to give the premiership a big shake next season.
Imagine Lucke ball + Sylvia + Stokes for say our 1st rounder + 2nd rounder + Griffen + Douglas/Reilly.

Not bad!

Hawthorn are linked to everybody.

I wish they would make it trade day instead of week. Maybe two days to allow for any neccesary physical testing to be done.

Hawthorn are supposed to have cleared a fair bit of TPP space in anticipation of this trade week. Hopefully they live up to their promise.

I remember going to a crows pre season training session and there was a bloke that stood out to me who I didn't even know. Turns out it was Martin and I was so confused as to why people were dismissing him. I personally never commented on it because I had never seen him play and even though he was doing very well for Sturt he was still being dismissed. Hopefully we keep him.

I like how people keep throwing Douglas and Reilly's names into trade deals like they would be a nice sweetener. Put yourself in the other clubs shoes.

Would be good if they could have the week behind closed doors and allow clubs to chat and do testing and see where they stand. Then, have a separate day the following week where the media is invited and all the paperwork is done.

Think of lower placed teams like melbourne and such. Both would probably be in their best 22.

Reilly would walk into Essendon as probably the best user of the footy alongside Lovett..hmm sounds like a trade if we can knock the stupid outta him.

Reilly and Douglas would be in plenty of 22's.

Reilly would walk into our 22 as well as a direct replacement for Lockyer I reckon. Douglas not so much.

You have far too many HFF's for Dougie to be a target. I could see Reilly as an outside mid at the Pies.

But first, no disrespect to Reilly and Douggie, I see them as Crows first and foremost.

However, we seem to have players ahead of them in positions their best suited.

You will not get Quality midf unless you have top 6 pick

We wont get a Dangerfield or Davis(who is neither quick nor slow, and needs a couple more pre-seasons before he becomes a gun) type player at 13.

Probably good midf or crumbing forward at 13.

This seems kind of unlikely, sounds more to me like a typical recruiter overexagerration, which they're famous for :o However, it wouldn't surprise me if he would be rated as good as say of the second-round mids that go in the draft (injury aside) and he certainly looked the goods at AFL level earlier this year. Man did he make me look silly in saying he was too small (not too short, but just too slight) to survive at AFL level :o

I wonder if they meant, if the Crows didn't upgrade him and he chose to enter the draft?

Probably not, but who knows.
