Autopsy Some promising signs but Hawks too good

Any chance of us not doing a stupid 15 m kick to Rampe who kicks it to a contest too. The set up from behinds needs to be a lot better, I'd almost roll the dice on Blakey taking every one, Roberts should be the second kick not the first and goodness sakes no kicking to Florent or Rampe, please no, one week of that rubbish was plenty.
Just reminded me, is 20 meters the new 15?

The umps have a set against us with 15s and not for them
I looked that way on Friday….some not 15s looked so wrong I would love to buy land off some of those umps.

I watched a lot of Hamling last season, Hamling is not out of place, w/o McCartin in the defensive 6, I would have Hamling in. He is a player who can do a job for us and is a better defnsive key back than Blakey is. He would free Blakey to do the damage Blakey can do and improve the defensive unit.

Having said that, I srill see a zone defence and for the life of me wi LL never understand a zone defence when the comp is full of elite kicks who can put the ball anywhere. Zone defence has contributed to our ground ball deficiencies.

All said, hopefully some early losses will shake us up a bit and be the switch we need to regain some ha4ness around the ball.

This we have a bunch of elite kicks is driving me up a wall, I swear they might want to show this 'elite kicking' more than a quarter a game. Our kicking is so overrated it's not even funny, not as if we have an Ambrosio on the wing who doesn't miss a kick, we have Lloyd who is iffy at best. Jmac better show something soon, and I'll forgive as it wasn't the game for him however do something and be better, he's been trash since his injury last year. Thought Corey was better than both wingers

Look sure, but why even take the chance, find a 30m target and they won't call you. I love blaming umps when it is there, but why give them reasons to ping you? As I said it shoukld be Blakey- Roberts- MID/winger. That should be the go to, with the variation being the middle one and it better not be Florent

At 3/4 time Corey had 5 disposals. Not sure that can be regarded as better than McI or Lloyd.

Corey has skill & speed, but needs to find the ball more to be effective.

I don't really look at stats, been a while since I have to be honest thought Corey was okay. Our wings are awful, how can our wingers struggle to get the ball so much? Now is that setup our gameplan I don't know, Lloyd barely gets it 20 times these days, maybe 25. People will say we lost, sure okay what did Josh Daicos get yesterday 30 plus or something? He was everywhere.

The counter argument is that we play up the corridor. When we go wide, we’re in trouble.

That just shows how one dimensional we are. Good sides that win the premiership do it both ways. Our wings are pathetic in output and it's every week. What I'd do for a McCluggage type or a Finn Callaghan on the wing

I thought Melican was really good. He killed off so many contests where most of our other defenders (Wicks aside) seemed to be getting beaten a lot.

The two punches instead of marks were baffling, but by that point brain fades seemed to have become infectious amongst the team. I was face-palming literally every 60 seconds.
At the ground I also shook my head. The rain was at its heaviest when he did it, and I thought perhaps he was not confident of taking an overhead mark, and was unaware whether he could chest mark it. Therefore his choice was spilling a mark and creating a contest 40m out, or double fisting it and creating a contest 70m out and closer to the boundary.
I’m speculating here.

Yeah I'd be curious to know the logic behind the decision to spoil, rather than mark. If there is a logic.

I wonder what has a proven track record of netting better results - attempting a mark, spilling it & trying to gather it at ground level, or punching it away to territory where you might be outnumbered, potentially leading to a repeat entry.

Both Rampe and Melican have always preferred to spoil rather than mark.

I don’t see it as a cardinal sin. They’ve both proven to be effective defenders over the journey.

Sure but the spoil led to 6 point, I've never got it, if you have a chance to mark, try and mark it. So annoying when our players try and punch the ball and it goes to an opponent. Surely we know todays game is all about the turnover, you literally mark it and then give it to a runner

What is the free bloke is a cricket pitch away?

Even reddit. Which is anti swans as it comes. Was like...wtf is with these not 15m calls.

they can't kick it 25-30m? Yeah this goes back to my original point we have the most overrated elite kicks I've seen, especially in the back half.

Are you using Bedford's keyboard here Mr Kick?

Don't take the chance, kick it 30m to the free bloke...OR can our so called 'elite' kicks not do that?

Friday was ridiculous though, they were decent kicks , for both teams called not 15.

You want them to go the torp every kick

The team picked on Friday lacked balance.

We were one key defender short leading to barely any intercept marking. We also lacked run with Blakey being forced to play deeper.

We also lacked a backup ruck. Amartey is only an option if we can trust Grundy to competitively ruck big minutes. I think it's clear we can't, whether that's because he's cooked or injured (hope it's the later).

My preferred option is to bring in Ladhams for Grundy (never thought I'd type that.....), shift McCartin back and bring in McLean or Buller, dependent of course on the fitness of these 2. Option 2 is for Francis or Hamling to come in. Problem with this is Amartey would have to ruck. Option 3 would be to bring in a tall defender and tall forward, which essentially returns us to last year's structure.

Let’s try McLean Amartey and Hayward as the three tallish players, McLean ruck, Mccartin could he a swing man, but start back or go forward when McLean rucks, something like that.

Swap McLean for Hamling even, either or/

Grundy fit. Then go again. If he is sore heck off

I would like to see Pistol Pete come in and show us what he's got, or at least learnt, over his last couple of self inflicted wasted seasons. I really think he's got what it takes, just needs to get that pea sized brain in order.
At the very least he has some mongrel about him.

Sorry scary but anyone other than Sam Wicks being 'BOG' for us is just not right. There is doing your job and then there is what Wicks did on Friday night.
