Always a very handy player to have when someone goes out with suspension, or injury. The thing I like about Luke is the way he can kick some freakish goals and take some great grabs.

I think Kenny will retire at the end of the year. Might be best to drop him for next week's potentionally season defining game.

Every time he gets a call up he does the job. Today he more than did his job. He is in our best 22.
Two of your three sentences are simply not true. He was good today, but to say he does his job every week, and is in our best 22 is just not true.
To fit him in....
Kenny out, Burton in. Maric and Tippett Rucks, with Tippett going forward to rest.

Griffin not in your best 22?

His game today was excellent, and a huge improvement. It's the type of game he has to play every week. I was very happy with Luke today. I'm amongst his biggest critics, but I've said before that if he's to play, he has to be a leading forward and play like that. He's not accountable enough to play anywhere else on the ground.

Well done Luke, keep it up.

he had a very good game and is a very good player for us.

some of the above posters need to have a good hard close look at themselves.

It annoys me when i see crows supporters taking cheap potshots from the peanut gallery. Taking potshots at the toughness of a professional athlete while sitting on your fat arse browsing a web site is a bit weak.

Perhaps a moment in the room of mirrors... why didn't you make it as an afl player?"

Terrible shoulder and knee injuries.

:)

I am not sure if I got you right and if I haven't I apologise, but its pretty much unrealistic to expect a player to kick 5 goals from 10 touches every week.

Like any other player, Luke will have his up and down periods BUT what we should expect from Luke is to present the way he did today. He genuinelly attacked every marking contest like he actually wanted to mark it. He split a pack, took a couple of good contested marks and kicked goals when the opportunities presented.

As I said in the other LJ thread, its not the 5 goals that I am most pleased with, but the way he presented. It was the best game he played for the club. 5 goals was just the cherry at the top. His 2nd half was great and he put on a show when we really needed someone to do something special to get us back into the game.

People will point to his 1st half but he wasn't alone. Our captain had 3 touches to half time despite playing as a loose man in defence for a period of time there.

He played a blinder today stepped up in that third term, lets hope he gains some confidence and CONSISTENCY. I would still like him to chase a bit harder and attack the ball at ground level every ounce in a while.

dunno about that. he wasn't bad against west coast, got crunched against Port. 3 goals against the tide versus Melbourne and today...

No, I don't expect 5 goals, but I expect him to, as you said, present.
Far too often in previous games he's spent far too long ball watching. Did not present well enough, and did not attack the ball or the man. He'll always be an outside player, nobody expects otherwise, but what we do expect is the intensity and workrate that we saw today. He's failed to to do that in the past, but not today.

Its a bit hard to be as involved as he was today when you have Burton, Goodwin, Porplyzia, Tippett and to lesser extent Douglas as the main targets inside 50.

Today, Jericho was one of those go to options and he performed really well. In the past he wasn't that go to option, in fact he was well down the pecking order but still put in a number of decent performances.

Again, you've misunderstood. I agree that it is VERY easy to go missing when you're playing in a forward pocket as a 4th or 5th option. But, that doesn't excuse lazy football. In the past, Jericho has simply failed to present, attack the ball, or the man when needed. He's been far too selective with his efforts. This is far easier to see at the game, and so is a point often lost on pretentious, bitter armchair supporters such as Crow-mo who haven't been to a game since before Jericho's debut. Luke has come along in leaps an bounds in this respect this season, and I've been very impressed with the improvement, and hope that he continues with it.

Did pretty much all the damage in a 15 minute spell and from what he's shown in his games this year he provides us with similar amount of output to Scott Welsh.

Great game today, credit where it's due

playing the lead up forward, in the first half he could have presented till the cows came home and he still wouldnt have gotten near it.

I'm happy that he's done well this week, and that the goals have come. There's been several games where it's been his finishing that let him down and that's what seperated his "good" games with his average ones.

mercurial is a word that often describes slippery small forwards who slide in and out of the game - but when they're on they're on. It's always seemed to me to fit jericho perfectly. If he presents like this most weeks he's a good chance to make it as a player.

well done luke jericho he deserves all the praise he gets, but one thing bothers me about him. he never ever seems to bust a gut when running.brilliant players seem to have a lot of time to make decisions and dispose of the ball but jericho is not that type of footballer. i once heard that he won some junior races so he is obviouslyvery quick so how come he just refuses to show his pace.is he just plain lazy or what?

i must admit I was talking about him this week and I said he was a bit half-rased but I will eat my humble pie now. Great game today. Hopefully he'll give the same output next week

At times he just tends to lope along I think, but I also think when he does run quick he doesn't actually look like he is until you see the bloke running next to him struggle to keep up. Seems to be very kinda nonchalant when he has the footy as well, kinda Jared Brennanish, he's definitely not slow, its just a matter of intensity most of the time.

I think though going by today and his match against melbourne, he's shown that given the chance up forward, he really has the ability to turn a match on its head in a very short period of time, however will be unsighted for long periods as well. I said at the beginning of the year that he had a place as a hff or a fp as kind of that 3rd or 4th tall who could bob up and kick 2 or 3 goals a game. He has all the weapons in the world to be a very damaging player, is quick, tall, althletic, great skills, can kick the ball 60m and as we've seen recently can kick a special goal.

I really hope he can capitalise on his opportunity today and produce some real consistent footy over perhaps the rest of the year as if he can, he really brings a different skill set to the table, one that can be very damaging and really is the only reason he's still on our list today. Good on him:thumbsu: 8 goals in his last 2 games is a great effort, would love to see him produce in a pressure game like next week though.

Jericho makes most of his chance
By Katrina Gill 11:43 AM Sun 08 June, 2008

Luke Jericho made the most of his chances at the MCG on Saturday

IN HIS FIVE years at West Lakes, Luke Jericho has tantalised coaches and fans with glimpses of brilliance without ever really making a name for himself.

You could argue he has been unlucky. In 2006, Jericho missed the entire season with a shoulder injury, and appeared determined to make amends the following year.

The 23-year-old played three-consecutive games in 2007, but after a three-goal haul against Carlton in round nine, he was left out of the side to make way for returning skipper Mark Ricciuto. Jericho was named an emergency 11 times last season, but struggled to secure a regular spot in the Adelaide line-up.

Jericho declared himself on his “last chance” during 2007 and now, on borrowed time, the former West Adelaide junior knows he’s “living on the edge”.

“Every game I’ve played this year, I’ve had the approach of it being my last chance,” Jericho said.

“I have to keep performing and playing as well as I can, whether it was round two against West Coast or this week, I have to go out there and do my best and, hopefully, that will be good enough.

“It’s [living on the edge] not such a bad thing. You don’t get complacent, and I feel like every week I have to prepare to the best of my ability.

“Hopefully, for the rest of the year I can keep playing on the edge and keep performing really well.”

On Saturday, Jericho made the most of veteran forward Brett Burton’s absence and booted five goals in his first outing at the MCG.

Jericho, who missed three weeks after cracking his sternum in round three, provided a spark in attack and showcased his athleticism and unpredictability with a good contested mark and two clever soccer goals.

“I’ve felt a lot more comfortable at the level this year. A few things went my way yesterday, but sometimes you get those days in footy. Hopefully, I can have a few more days like that this year,” Jericho said.

“I feel like I haven’t really played a bad AFL game in a couple of years now, and I know I can play at the level.

“Now, it’s up to me to be able to keep performing when I’ve got the opportunity and, hopefully, I’ll get a few more opportunities this year.”

Jericho has now kicked goals in three of his four games this season, including another bag of goals against Melbourne, after which he was again dropped to make way for returning stars.

The talented junior athlete, who has spent time working on the contested aspect of his game,
is all but guaranteed a game next week when Burton serves the second week of his suspension, but Jericho is determined to make this stay in the team a long one.

The Crows will take on Hawthorn at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night, which signals the start of a gruelling six-week period for the club.

“We’re 8-3 at the moment, and we’ve won some good games early in the year,” Jericho said.

“Everyone in the team would agree that our best footy is good enough to be competitive with anyone. We’ve got a tough run over the next few weeks, but if we play the style of footy and the competitive footy we know we can, we’ll be competitive.”

so the club offically sees it but isn't as concerned as the people here on BF

but good to see he realizes it too. Better to know your weakness than not too.

It was great to see jericho have the best game of his career.

Everyone knows he has had the talent .....the combination of speed and ariel strength is always a difficult match-up.

That's why the club has perservered where with others they have lowered the chop very quickly.

The question is though ........can you see him playing a strong role in a GF under that pressure .........sadly that image escapes me.

ATM he is just improving his trade opportunities at year end

Well, you'll never know until it happens, he could lift his game (And no one claim the mickey mouse GF a couple of years ago as an example - DOES NOT COUNT)

At this stage, I don't think the focus is increasing trade opportunities, its saving his career, if he did become good enough that other clubs were interested, I don't think the Crows would trade him.

One in the same .........trust me if a club asked for a trade the Crows would do it in a flash .........and that's the ONLY way he'll save his career

Firstly one game does not define a career .........and you'll learn come end of year how cut throat the AFL exactly is.
