During this time of year it is always tempting to look for the trade or draft pick that will give us fresh hope for the new year. Generally though the most improvement will come from our middle to lower tier players.

So this thread is devoted to players on our current list who we should be excited about for 2008.

How do you think guys like Dunn, Collard, O'brian, Drum, Schammer, Peake, Warnock, Ibbo etc will go next year?

Dunn: Will play 10-12 games most of them toward the end of the season as he secures a spot
Collard: 0-5 games, will continue to improve
O'brien: Stepped up against port i like the look of this guy, he should play around 10-12 games
Drum: See Dunn
Schammer: Will be his best season to date and will move up into our good half of the 22
Peake: Should be right up there in the Brownlow count if he doesn't get injuries of have an interupted preseason
Warnock: I Expect to play 22 games and continue to stamp his authority on the game, will spend more time foward i expect and kick quite alot of goals. By the end of the season will be sharing the ruck duties with Sandi alot more evenly
Ibbotson: Will keep improving how he has been should play 10-12 games
Foster: Should play every game of the season bar injury
First round draft pick up: Hopefully we can fast track and young fast midfielder to play 8+ games to be up there in the rising star

Hmm...not sure how you'll get that many games into those guys with the side as it is.

Peake for the Brownlow

David Brent.. you avoided answering this a question I asked you on another thread. I want to know...

Do you sincerely barrack for the Purple Horde to win a premierhsip?, to the exclusion of any other other club?

I look forward to the rise of Brock Norris.......

These are gone : Bell (95%), Cook, Parker
and maybe Hase (but I expect him to stay in purple).

Delisted should be : Walker and Dunn (slow, lack of wareness, skills)

I would trade : Murphy, Webster, Duffield (all decent players but I would rather get some midfield quality). Duffield might come good.

I would like to hold on to : Browne and the medical staff can make the call on Haddrill

Youngsters to Keep : Foster, Ibbo, Campbell, Collard, Drum, Mourish, O'Brien

Hopefully Schammer can step up to Bell's shoes, and Peake injury free would be good. Notice all the top teams best players for the year are midfielders (which will be proven in the Brownlow tonight).
Cats - Ablett, Corey, Bartell, Ling
PAPs - Chad and Kane Cornes, Burg's
Eagles - Kerr, Priddis, Judd (when 3/4 fit)
Roos - Harvey, Wells
Hawks - Hodge, Mitchell
Pies - Swann, Licuria, Lockyer

We can't let our season rely on Foster, Ibbo and Obrien as they have only 5 AFL games between them.

Any reason why you would leave Macmannus on the list. Shouldnt he be on the retired/gone list.

I look forward to MJ being groomed to play a kouta or goodes type role next year and hopefully mundy can take the next step and be the superstar he could be, preferably in the midfield he could be a nigel lappin type player. still dunno who is gonna win clearance tho?

I really hope we can develop, draft or trade for a 3rd tall defender. Mcpharlin at CHB, grover at FB, need one more to play on a 3rd tall as thornton is too scrony to play on a resting ruckman and parker now retired? genuine third tall... As stupid as this may sound i hope we trade for Brad Miller. He could play on a 3rd tall or against a small forward line he could play CHB and release mcpharlin to play forward... surely he'd come really cheap too, 3rd rounder or a bit part player

Macca deserves a spot next year. He is on the veterens list and he was in season best form last year. It is a no brainer.

Here are a couple of old profiles written by Mojo31, mind you they were posted at the beginning of last year.

15) Clayton Collard

Midfielder

181cms and 76kgs.
4/12/88
South Fremantle

An aboriginal player from Western Australia who is a team mate of Leroy Jetta. Has good pace and is a very good kick of the ball. Superb goal sense and just seems to know where they are and is so natural in that regard. Has played as a defender and also as a wing and shows himself to be versatile and a very adaptable player. Did not look lost in those roles but I do feel he is better suited as an attacking player who gets his own ball rather than a player who works off an opponent. In the forward line is where he does his best work. Either setting up a goal with a precise kick or finishing the work himself.

Capable of winning the ball in the crushes as well and will not hesitate to put his head over it and he is quite a reasonable size for a player who has only just turned 17. Good body size and a decent height to go with speed, skill and versatility. A little bit of an impact player rather than a consistent one but a lot of that can be put down to playing on the half forward “graveyard”. Not too sure about his endurance to play a game out on the ball at this stage.Reasonable in the air for his size but is better with the ball on the ground.

Looks like playing some senior games with South Fremantle in the WAFL this year and then be part of the WA team for the U18 Championships where they will be hard to beat. He played in them last year but was on the bench for most of it.

A very clever and athletic player who has flair, poise and a real cutting edge to his work in the forward line. Will develop more and more as a midfielder over time and has all the tools to become a dangerous midfielder when he is finished. A very smooth mover who is effortless and anticipates well and reads the play.

A bigger and stronger version of his close friend Jetta. Not as quick or as exciting but that is more a case of how good Jetta is rather than something lacking in Collard. I think in time he will become a very attacking wing who can go forward and kick goals as well as run and carry the ball and show poise and class as a link player.

16) Brock O’Brien

Midfielder/half back flanker

180cms and 79kgs
30/5/1988
Peel Thunder (WA)

Physical player suited to playing on an opponent. Thrives on the contest and has a good strong body already. Impressed at the U18 Championships for Western Australia and was used mainly as a defender there. Showed the ability to play close and also to attack at every opportunity. Used the ball well and showed agility and pace as well as picking the right option.
Clean ball handler who has the hands of a good midfielder and a complete game at this early stage. Tough player who runs through and around similar sized players and will take his time to dispose of the ball. Very versatile and really could develop anywhere.
Managed to play senior football for Peel Thunder in the WAFL last year which is quite a feat for someone so young.
Not lightning quick but has good pace and an all around game which belies his age. Good in the air and capable of taking a strong mark. A very good rebounding small defender at this stage who will hopefully develop into a midfielder over time. Hard and classy at the same time and will be top aged come draft time and most likely play most of this year in the seniors for Peel Thunder. So he wont be much of a risk for the team who takes him. A physically ready player with not as much scope as some of the other smalls but a good overall game and the right attitude and temprement to take the next step up to AFL football.

QUOTE=Lach72;8311737]I was at the Swans Peel game.

Brock Obrien: First time i have seen him play. Very good but IMO he is being wasted as a back pocket. He beat his man on most occasions, but gave away a fifty and a goal by being a knob and bitching to the umps. His disposal is excellent on the left and he knows how to get through traffic. Although not exactly tall, he is ok sized and would be worth a look as a flanker or winger, even a rover at a pinch, I think, as he is strong but still quite quick.
Really? Sounds familiar :D

I remember reading a profile of Collard that said he lived in Jetta's shadow and had question marks on whether he would settle in to a new environment. Can anybody find that or a wisbey profile?
