Don't need to apologize. We're lucky that everyone here has such wide ranging tastes in music. Otherwise it would be boring as. I never even appreciated Nick Cave until the first nomination of Red Right Hand came through. I've discovered so much new music because of this comp, like Northlane, In Flames, Eluveitie, NF, Chris Matthews, Worakls.........Violence gives me anxiety - it's why I feel uncomfortable watching crime shows and don't read crime novels. Actually I've read the Da Vinci Code, not so bad, however I re-read Angels & Demons a few years back and felt a bit sick. I forgot how graphic some of it was.So yeah, I'm not apologising for your song making me feel uncomfortable.
As for mine, well they aren't even using autotune like many artists now... and the song is pretty uplifting. Each to their own![]()
I liked the story telling aspect to it and the build up, the emotion. IT's not for everyone, I get that. I guess it comes down to how a song makes you feel. I've really loved some Swift songs, and hated others.Yeah that Nick cave was awful.
All fair comments. I talked to a friend about Cave and only a handful of his songs I appreciate . And thats on me not Nick. Just never got into him.Don't need to apologize. In terms of why I billied Spice Girls is because there wasn't anything else standing out. I considered John Lennon because again the selected song was uninspiring, and a couple of the others I just couldn't appreciate. I compared it to other pop songs like Barbie Girl, Roar, Toxic, Baby One More Time etc and it wasn't catchy, it felt lame and contrived. The whole song felt like it fit to a script and wasn't anywhere near as good as their biggest hits.
Artists like Nick Cave are always polarizing. I got billies for my previous nomination and expected them for this one. I think at least for Cave, he usually polls well in the voting.
Nick Cave is often the best on the list. I rather his actual songs though, not talking with music. Especially when it's not even in time. All fair comments. I talked to a friend about Cave and only a handful of his songs I appreciate . And thats on me not Nick. Just never got into him.
Spice Girls can definitely sound contrived and written for a market but their influence has to be recognised.
Cold Turkey is not one of the Lennon songs I reach for but again I recognise its about his pain - and to be able to write that down is genius
For those needing some inspiration…an oldie but a goodieOk theme is Periodic Table , you must nominate a song title or artist that contains and in order the two letters used on the shortened form of any of the elements. Eg Americium is AM so you could nom American Woman.
You must nominate elements that have a 2 character shortening
No Podiums

I'm with ya. Used to watch Law and Order regularly and just felt I don't want to see violence any more. If there are violent scenes in programs I can fast forward I do. Maybe it's why I don't like meano music generally, or part of it.Violence gives me anxiety - it's why I feel uncomfortable watching crime shows and don't read crime novels. Another example. The movie Drive. Absolutely brilliant film. However there's a scene an in elevator where he crushes a guy's skull. I had to look away, the sound was sickening enough though. Ugh.... yeah i watch the trailer to the new war movie Sisu and a couple of things made me go whoa thats full on, still looks like a good movie though. American History X had a confronting scene too that made me feel a bit squeamishAnother example. The movie Drive. Absolutely brilliant film. absolutely, i don't find horror movies a problem at all but realistic violence in movies hits me a bit differently (there is a scene where a guy is asked to open his mouth on a gutter and the back of his head was stomped on, just the sound was horrific. Not to be an insensitive dick, but isn’t that the point of said scenes?
I knew the exact scene you're talking about. I don't think I've actually seen it, but I know about it. :/ ugh.absolutely, i don't find horror movies a problem at all but realistic violence in movies hits me a bit differently (there is a scene where a guy is asked to open his mouth on a gutter and the back of his head was stomped on, just the sound was horrific.
If it adds value then id argue yes in both aforementioned films.Sometimes I wonder is it really necessary.
