Analysis Speculation best team in 2016: List & depth analysis

I count at least three significant changes.
A Pearce in for McPharlin
Bennell in Suban/Hill's position and Hill in backline for C Pearce/ Sheridan
Crozier in for Mayne

If one of the second year players forces their way in, happy days. But none are likely to be in the best 22 at the beginning of the season.
Mayne will play all the games he is available for next season.

If Alex Pearce does go forward would he replace Griffin or Taberner?

FWIW If A Pearce goes forward I think Silvagni should replace him to allow Johnson and Ibbotson to intercept and rebound.
Hmm...longbow speculation but both Taberner and Griffin to remain and instead knocking off a bench player. Not ideal for the rotations I know, but given it is Pav's last year I reckon that's about where it will need to be.....

Hey guys, thoughts on this?

B: Lee Spurr ~ Zac Dawson ~ Alex Pearce
HB: Garrick Ibbotson ~ Michael Johnson ~ Stephen Hill

C: Harley Bennell ~ Lachie Neale ~ Danyle Pearce
R: Aaron Sandilands ~ David Mundy ~ Nat Fyfe

HF: Hayden Crozier ~ Matt Taberner ~ Hayden Ballantyne
F: Michael Walters ~ Matthew Pavlich ~ Jon Griffin

I/C: Michael Barlow ~ Tommy Sheridan ~ Cameron Sutcliffe ~ Matt de Boer

My 22 is not far of yours.
B: Spurr Dawson Johno
HB: Ibbo A.Pearce Sheridan
C: D.Pearce Mundy Hill
HF: Crozier Fyfe Walters
FF: Mayne Pav Balla
R: Sandy Neale Bennell

Inter: Barlow, Sutty, Clarke, Langdon

In my 22 I've got Fyfe starting in every centre square and then playing a kick forward of the play in a hybrid midfield/forward role. Playing Fyfe in this role would also allow Barlow to play more onball where he plays his best football.

I think Mayne will put some muscle on over summer and play more of a third forward role like he did in 2013. Im not sold on Tabs. He will play when Pav is not in the team.

Im hopeful Clarke will come good in a year where if he does perform he will probably get a significant pay rise in his next contract. He needs to put on 4kgs of muscle this preseason so he doesn't get pushed around in marking contests.

Langdon was very impressive in his first year at WAFL level. I can defintely see him stepping up into the 22 after another preseason. We need more run and carry off half back. Langdon might be able to add that playing off half back.

Sheridan is a definite in my eyes too. I thought he was nearly our most improved player last year. (Neale no 1 IMO).

If Crozier doesnt come on then I think they should play Weller at half forward. With our counter attacking style of play I like the idea of having an extra quick player to try and get behind the defence.

The difference in my 22 compared to the team that played Hawthorn in our last game is the injection of speed with Bennell, Crozier and Langdon into the team. I think they should play Bennell starting outside the square at centre clearances atnd then have him charge in and play midfield after the bounce.

With Hill, D.Pearce and Bennell playing midfield at the same time, we should be able to beat most teams spreading from contested situations. The much maligned D.Pearce would also be matched up on the third quickest mid in this structure.

Silvagni has been doing his apprenticeship for a number of years to fill Luke's spot IMHO he will get first crack at it and Alex will play in the forward line next to Pavlich . Mayne at CHF and Fyfe roving the forward line when not involved at centre bounce downs . Bennell on a HFF rather than on the wing would be the game changer for us as he would draw the oppositions 2nd best defender . The opposing coach would be forced to man up on him . This would mean for the first time Ballas , Walters and Pav won't be able to be double teamed because Fyfe and Bennell could not be left free to roam through the forward line as well .

I still think Tab deserve more chance, Pav freo really need to manage him due to his age once injured will take long time to heal.

In my opinion Silvagni was terrible in a number of games last year. Alex Pearce with another preseason will be miles ahead of Silvagni.

Just seeing Bennell on our list makes me happy and excited for next year. When pre season starts, all the training reports will be Bennell is killing it, very confident of it!

Don't you mean 'Training the house down'? ;);)

coulda, please give up on Silvagni as a forward already. It's not going to happen, he isn't a forward's arseh*le.
Silvagni will play in the backline as Lukes replacement is what I posted and Alex Pearce next to Pavlich . Silvagni is a player that has and IMO will be played forward if the need arises if a KPF gets injured .

What happen to apparently dead?

Fremantle's 2016 best 22

B: Zac Dawson, Alex Silvagni, Lee Spurr

HB: Michael Johnson, Alex Pearce, Garrick Ibbotson

C: Harley Bennell, Nathan Fyfe, Stephen Hill

HF: Chris Mayne, Matthew Taberner, Lachie Neale

F: Michael Walters, Matthew Pavlich, Hayden Ballantyne

R: Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Michael Barlow

INT: Cameron Sutcliffe, Danyle Pearce, Jonathon Griffin, Nick Suban

Pretty close, Sheridan is ahead of Suban now though. And not sure we will play all 4 of A. Pearce, Dawson, Silvagni and Johnson in the same team. Likely Silvagni will miss out in favour of a running player (e.g. Sheridan to play on half back and Suban as our tagger).

Plus he is a big son of a gun and is super athletic and the quickest of the tall's . If Hurley puts it all together there will be one hell of a love fest on here.
Is he really quicker than A Pearce? Not doubting your judgement just it'd be seriously impressive if he was because Pearce is bloody quick

B: Grey, Pearce A, Spurr

HB: Sheridan, Johnson, Ibbotson

C: Sutcliffe, Bennell, Hill

HF: Crozier, Fyfe, Walters

F: Taberner, Pavlich, Ballantyne

R: Sandilands, Mundy, Neale

INT: Barlow, Griffin, ---, ---- (Last two spots to be rotated between (Weller, Langdon, Blakely - Hopefully 10-15 games each)

Out: Pearce D, Dawson, Suban, De Boer, Mayne
(Our younger brigade to get first crack, if after a decent run of games they aren't up to it switch them out for our experienced depth)

- Grey to take Sutcliffe's spot in the back line. Grey is a better 1 on 1 defender and will help Spurr lock down on small forwards.
- Sutcliffe into Dan Pearce's spot, I just think Sutcliffe is a better user of the ball and will really step up when placed into an attacking role and freed from the burden of having to play in defensive position.
- Griffin over Clarke, was our most accurate set shot kicker this year and did very well in the ruck.
- Really don't like the thought of taking the best midfielder out of the midfield but we need to change something and make our forward line more threatening. Having Fyfe and Pav in the forward line means Tabs and Croz will be taking the 3rd/4th defender.
- I have a lot of faith that Tabs is going to break out next year (30 goals+) But if he struggles after a decent run then Alex Pearce should be played up forward and Dawson back in the backline.
- Mayne to play for Peel until he consistently kicks 3+ goals a game. He needs to sort out his set shot routine.
- Running a risk by not playing Dawson but I think Alex will be capable, only playing the two talls + Ibbo will give us more drive out of the backline too.
- Crozier didn't take his chances last year but he did prove to be an accurate set shot. Crozier stays in until Mayne forces him out which may or may not happen.
- Sutcliffe and Sheridan can interchange between wing and half back to keep the opposition on their toes.

- More than anything we need to take the risk on playing our younger players over our more experienced fringe players. Maybe they faulter, maybe they thrive. We won't know unless we give them a shot. We already know what Suban offers.

No place for Langdon surprises me .Suban will retain his place in the team given his Doig Medal votes by the coaches .
Dawson could find it hard to hold his spot in the team based on his form when he came into the team .
A lot of the team positions will depend on the results of the preseason training which I'm tipping will be a harder one than last year .I don't think they will do more days but it will be longer sessions and more skill'd based .
With the new coaches coming from Hawthorn I think the main emphasis will be decision making and execution of football skills under extreme duress .
