Another instance of Clubs enticing players, yet unwilling to pay the price ......I mean, HAW knew what the likely cost would be ....the onus is on them

The AFL Clubs have not been reflected well in this Draft Period ..... Aleer was a really bad look

I played minis. My Dad was the good footballer.
Don’t be so modest, it was too hard juggling footy with a 9-5 at the bank and yr1 at school

I'm 100% with you on Rankine as a Full Time Mid .....sorry DangerSloane

Give me one of the league's best players around the ball as often as possible .....rather than sitting in the FWD50 waiting for an entry ....plus, he's one of the best deliverer's inside 50, and decision makers .....so I want him with ball in hand as much as possible

It comes as fellow Cats depth midfielder George Stevens remains unsigned amid reported interest from the Adelaide Crows
George Stevens could join his former GWV Rebels and Vic Country squad teammate Hugh Bond who both captained the Rebels in successive years. Shift in with the 2 buddies Dan Curtin and Hugh Bond?

I genuinely believe our premiership side has Dawson playing the Sicily role. This is not understating his importance at all. It does however require our midfield to be good enough to operate without him in it.
He's our second best overhead mark behind Thilthorpe so I'd love to see him up forward in the twilight of his career.

With his fantastic leg and that mark, I can see him be a 35-40 goal forward if he is there 80% of the time.

I thought it was telling that Darren Burgess said yesterday in that airport interview that he thought Rankine was the best athlete he'd seen and had no doubt he could be a full time midfielder.

Edit: whoops, just saw you posted the same quote 🤣 🤣

Regarding loose rumours I heard this off season on Steele and Stevens.

My friend who is credible (from my perspective), feels any deals will likely not happen purely because we will only bring in fringe players if it is a massive bargain last minute. Steele was talked to apparently but the cost is too large to entice him to move the border for a player seen as a Crouch 2.0. So safe to say this rumour is dead.

Stevens will only be an option if it means staying in the AFL, he very much rather stay in Geelong.

Ive asked if these is any other players we are talking to and it was said "we are fishing in a pond with no bait".
If we indeed have interest in big George I have no doubt Hugh Bond who loves the Crows and Adelaide would be employed to tell him what a great place Adelaide and the club are to work and live in.

There has been some ridiculous over pricing though by some clubs. I get that Essendon wanted to keep Merrit. so over pricing is a tool to silence the trade. But Melbourne need to be hauled over the coals for the pricing of Petracca, a player they want to get rid of. In fact the AFL should 100% step in and veto that trade. Its manifestly unfair for a 30yo. If this was reverse and it was a Melbourne based club on the verge of paying that cost for an interstate player, the media would rip the trade to shreds.

I think the AFL should fine St Kilda over Aleer. That was a disgrace. Clubs should not be allowed to do that.

It gets lost in all the negativity that our midfield this year was still good enough to earn the minor premiership. Dawson and Rankine are genuinely all Australian standard mids, and if either Curtin or Draper can elevate their game to A grade, then we have a really elite group. If they both manage it and you add solid B graders in Soligo and Peatling then all the better.

Simple truth is that during finals of our 2 genuine midfield stars, 1 was suspended and the other had a cracked foot, and the depth couldn’t cover that.

Hawks supporters really cracking the shits over this one. For the Hawks to not get this deal done after making it very public since the Sam Mitchell meeting is a complete fail.

I have no doubt n my mind if he can run a full game out, he would be our best mid - just about the most naturally highly skilled player in the comp...but where I see him as close to A McLeod because of his skillset, Andy had a defensive side to his game that izak does not possess. IF Izak can develop that and now stay clear of injury then literally the sky is the limit for him as a mid.

Melbourne have consistently said they want to keep Petracca, while for 2 years he has made it clear he wants to move. How could the AFL possibly punish Melbourne for wanting to keep a player to a contract that he voluntarily signed?

100% - The disappointment of the finals has clouded the season, which was outstanding. I'm looking forward to a strong 2026. We will learn from last year, and even Ah Chee will just make give us more flexibility for Curtin to play mid or Rankine to play in the middle.

It would be nice for another recruit, I think I was most excited by the Sanders phone call, we don't want a 30 year old on a five year contract clogging up our midfield development for Curtin, Rankine, Draper and Soligo.

Redhorse is the glue that keeps this board together
Maybe redhorse was just the friends we made along the way from grade 1 to the banks.
