Richmond openly said pick 4 is on the table

Ideal scenario here

Out: ‘25 1st + ‘26 1st
In : 4 (Sharp)

Trade a junk pick for Oliver

Midfield solved
I can't say with certainty, but i'm not seeing in Sharp as a player worth 2 x 1st rounders. Even if they are 2 late ones.

I think he is a very good player, but not the kind of midfielder who changes a clubs fortunes at AFL level. I could be proven to be wrong, but right now I'd not make that trade from our perspective

They are hitting the draft, but they want to turn one of their high picks to another first and a future first.

If we wanted to trade into this years' draft then our f1 will be enticing, think carlton and Richmond, but it seems nobody wants to get into this year's draft.
To get your hands on their pick 4, it going to take more than pick 14 and our F1. We would really have to push the boat out and that might be including a player too like Jordan Butts (who I don't want to lose) and maybe get a future pick back along with 4.

Bit of info
  • club still waiting on Petracca decision
  • still believe he will leave the demons
  • believe the move to push Oliver out and pay his half his contact helps Adelaide get a deal done as we can accomodate Petracca contact and salary which offsets the trade price

Of all the delusional garbage you’ve posted, that last point is the best. The Dees do not have cap problems, they’re happy to pay contracts to get better picks as they’re rebuilding. Stop making shit up.

Richmond would want players for pick 4. Sholl has an in.
Cal Twomey has Sharp at 9 and Cumming at 15. If we are seriously into either player then one of GC picks would probably get them. I think that is definately realistic. Personally not sold on Sharp but love Cumming and Latrelle Pickett.

There are a lot of moving parts at the moment so without knowing our plans, it's pointless discussing how well they are working.

So let me get this straight the club went all in on Petracca and just recently they realised with the picks they got they couldn’t get the deal done. How stupid are the crows they should have thought about that before they went all in on Petracca.

If we don’t get an A grader midfielder in this trade period and we play with the same midfield next year I’m going to be pissed
Prepare yourself to be pissed then. Without a player of Petraccas quality added to our midfield we will finish anywhere from 6th to 10th.

Once Gold Coast entered the picture I knew we were no chance against one of the VFLs darling clubs and their gift of multiple top 10 draft picks.

While I'm normally pretty sceptical of the clubs messaging around this stuff (and still am a bit in this situation). It is possible that things changed between our discussions with Trac and then chats with Melbourne.

King coming in and saying get rid of Oliver means they can then take on more of Tracs contract as well and ask for more at the table.

Initially it might have been 14+ full salary and that was the starting point but wouldn't have been miles away from what Melbourne where after. But now they are saying we don't need the money we can cover some so CG are able to offer way more in trade (cause they can afford him now). So you'll have to give us more than they can or no go.

We know we can't get much more on the table.

Not saying not getting Trac isn't a failure - it is to some degree. But if we get something else over the line it will be OK.

Not holding my breath on that front either though....

Petracca is also a party in the deal. He has to choose where he wants to play. Melbourne can't send him to Gold Coast if he doesn't want to play for Gold Coast, even if Gold Coast are offering the better deal.

I think even in the face of curveballs we would have been hoping until the last minute that Petracca would choose us exclusively so that we were the only party negotiating with Melbourne

If indeed we did see the asking price as too much, that means we learnt from the Gibbs trade and we clearly have a strategy with our future picks. This club is much more mature in that space now. Next year will be tough without adding to the midfield. But I’m sure we will find the player we need soon enough

I didn't think list management was ever going to trade away our future first as part of this deal. It wouldn't of made sense

The club hasn't said we walked away. Tom Morris did.

Which gives it some cred, as I am sure he would have preferred to sink the boots into us over missing out.

I think Sharp is the type of midfielder we need, that high level clearance player

But again he’s just a kid, and I think we need to get our hands on a proven quantity

Pickett looks like he will be a quality player. A highly skilled footballer. Natural forward line instinct. If Cumming isn’t available with our first pick would you use it to draft Pickett?

To pick Sharp at 9 you need pick 5 though because there are 3 Academy players and 1 F/S in the top 8.

I am not convinced Twomey watches any junior football outside of Victoria

Pick 4 is overs for a midfielder of Sharp's Ilk even if a club was stupid enough to give up pick 4 for what could very well be 2 late 1st round picks.

Sharp is not a Finn Callaghan type for example who is much more in the style we should be looking to draft with a top end pick. I don't ever see Sharp as being a game breaker personally, a good inside leaning mid is where I see him.

The AFL would never let a contract dispute get to court - I'd imagine Petracca would have some leverage to get the AFL to step in if it came to that though. It wont, it never does, this is all just posturing.

You’ve got to be kidding, I didn’t think you were this stupid. Allowing a player to consider other clubs will not open up any out opportunities for the Petracca. It is not an approval to he released from the contract, there is no basis for anyone to consider it would have any impact on Melbourne maintaining full contractual rights over the player. As if a club would actively and publicly torpedo the strength of their contractual rights which is tied to the trade value of the player.

I love reading people with zero idea pontificating as if they were KCs.
