Trio of Magpies included in squad

Chris Bryan will look to make his debut in the NAB Cup competition after being named in the 29-man squad

Collingwood has brought back Anthony Corrie and Chris Dawes for its semi-final clash against Essendon at the Docklands on Friday night.

Corrie and Dawes will come into the side along with ruckman Chris Bryan who will look to make his debut in the NAB Cup after being named in the 29-man squad on Wednesday.

Skipper Nick Maxwell, Josh Fraser and Tyson Goldsack will be rested.

Corrie had 17 disposals, four marks and three tackles in round one but his ball usage let him down disposing it with 70% efficiency. It will be a month since the midfielder played his last game for the club and will no doubt look to impress the coaches on Friday night.

Forward Chris Dawes was recalled into the side after a five goal haul playing for Collingwood's VFL side in last Saturday’s practice match against the Coburg Tigers. The 193-centimetre big man impressed coaches by providing a strong target up forward.

Bryan and Cameron Wood will make up Collingwood’s ruck duo with Fraser being rested this week. Bryan played 17 games for the Magpies last season and averaged 14 hit outs a match.

Steele Sidebottom, who was on the emergency bench in the first two rounds, is in contention to play against Essendon.

The squad includes eight on the bench (two super-subs) and three emergencies.

The team list will be finalised 90 minutes before the start of the game.

So the Medhurst article was a waste of space. Maxwell out is interesting, and you would think Goldsack would replace him? Hmmm..

Good call on resting Fraser. I wouldn't play him now til Round 1 - he looks fit, let's keep it that way.

Would like to see us line-up like this:

B: Shannon Cox, Nathan Brown, Harry O’Brien
HB: Jaxson Barham, Ben Reid, Martin Clarke
C: Heath Shaw, Scott Pendlebury, Leon Davis
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Steele Sidebottom
F: Tarkyn Lockyer, Chris Dawes, Brent Macaffer
Foll: Cameron Wood, Dale Thomas, Dayne Beams

INT: John McCarthy, Dane Swan, Jack Anthony, Ryan Cook, Alan Toovey, Chris Bryan

Subs: Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Johnson

surprised Corrie back in the mix considering VFL match reports mention him spraying it a bit. On the other hand, Mick seems reluctant to bring in youngsters unless circumstances dictate it.

still, good mix overall and Maxwell, Fraser sitting out gives a few chances. I am not usually confident V Essendon, but feel pretty comfotable about this one.

how the hell does corrie get a game .everything this season has been going good but this really pisses me off if corrie gets in ahead of sidebottom.

What are you talking about. They are both in the 29 man squad, therefore both equal chance of playing.

Unless you have a crystal ball and can see into the future, your comment doesn't make a lot of sense.

Please look at who is number 22 in our squad

How can they rest Goldy if he hasn't played yet?

Was thinking the same thing

Interesting that Stanley is overlooked. Have the distinct impression his card has already been marked. Looking forward to seeing Steele get a go and Beams again too.

hes in the squad not in the side, corrie has played already which still baffles me , the guy cant kick, brisbane gave him away for pick 92 so they obviously rated him highly.im saying if corrie gets a game ahead of sidebottom i will be pissed off and i stand by that.people were giving shit to rhyce shaw for his disposal for his entire career and corrie is worse.

Like the resting of Josh. As mdc he seems really fit so no need to give him an opportunity to injure himself. I also like Bryan and Wood going head to head for the other ruck spot.

I'd probably give L Brown, Swan and Heater a rest this week and have Lockyer and Barham as subs to come on for two mids that have gone flat out in the 1st half.

I suspect Leigh Brown and Corrie will play though and I'm OK with that.

There is no point playing Steele if his body is not ready. He is VERY young. He may be far more skilled than Corrie but we wouldn't have picked up Corrie to play him in the 2's every week. He can play AFL. We need to see if he is prepared to step up for the Black and White or not.

Sidebottom is a long term player. He WONT play 25 games this year (I include 3 Finals ;)) and we didn't pick him with our first pick so that we could injure him in a NAB Cup game. I say let him play against men in the VFL for a bit longer yet. Unleash him ANZAC day!

Who will play against Trav? I assume that would have been Fletcher's job. Now they need someone else. They might be doing more of a match simulation knowing that when we play them Rocca will be in and Fletch will have his hands full??

EDIT: Ryder will go to him. Cloke would destroy him.....surely?
