Still a lot of kids there.

more kids than I expected, but then if we are going to bring them on we need them to be played as much as possible this year. Cant wait to see Hill again!

Three to miss out from that squad of 29. TBH I hope it's Clarke, Ruffles and Hall. None of them will see much - if any - senior footy action in 2009, so it would be good to get a look at the guys who will play this year.

It would be hard to pick a 29 man squad from our list without including several young blokes. Looks like Hase and McPharlin are the only players being rested?

Hopefully Walters and Suban get a run, would like to see where they're at.

I'd like to see ruffles get a run, because he missed the first game and reports from last game were encouraging. I think either Gilmore or Clarke have to miss or possibly both with Kep and Sandi playing. Also expect Hall and or Walters to probably miss.

B: Drum, Grover, Hayden
HB: Thornton, Johnson, Suban
C: Schammer, Crowley, Mundy
HF: Hill, Pavlich, Van Berlo
F: Walters, Tarrant, Badley
R: Sandilands, Palmer, Hinkley
I: Dodd, Duffield, Browne, Peake, Head, Broughton, Murphy, Gilmore

Miss:
Clarke, Ruffles, Hall.

Something like that IP?

Of course with position changes in that line up, just thought it would be good to have a line up/structure to look at :)

Just name a squad, let them run out on the ground an play. There is no such thing as positions in the game now days. The only true position,is the ruckman. All other players don't have an opponent they just run and fill space where ever they see fit.
I don't like what I see coming from the game now days, reminds me of my school days when we used to play all oer red rover and british bulldog.
It sure aint fotball,as I knew it when i was growing up,and until a few years ago.
Where have the high flyers gone?Where are the bonecrushing bumps? The good old hip and shoulder.
Fat Andrew and his vertically challenged off sider have a lot to answer for.The sooner they get rid of them both and get some real footbal people in the chair then we will be watching Rugby in a few years time. And I know where that leaves me.

Quite the shame no McPharlin, Hasleby, Ibbotson, Headland, Ballantyne and Campbell. I'd rate all of them in the best 22.

Quite a lot of kids. A lot more first year players compared with the eagles. Apart from Kerr and Cox who else are the Eagles missing?

Kerr has been named.
WCE are without: Hunter, Waters, Rosa, Embley, Cox and Ebert that would be in our best 25 IMO.

I was hoping both sides would field the strongest teams possible but bugger they didn't so lets hope the kids put on a good show.
Hopefully its a close one.:thumbsu:

Scott Thornton in a pre-season game. I don't think I have ever seen that before! Does anyone know when he last played a pre-season game?

michael prior said clarke would play when he spoke at the corporate pick up your tickets evening tonight.

Any information available on why Connelly and Pratt aren't named? Given they are into their second year, and neither played in Canberra,I'm a little surprised as to why they haven't been selected for more of a praccy run.

I know Pratt played against Richmond (who could forget that kick in the fourth), but if Zacariahthehumungouslyverticallyadvantaged keeps getting picked before Connelly, what does that mean for the ruck pecking order? I'd thought BC was the next in line after Sandipants and Kepstar?? I've not seen enough of BC in the WAFL to know what his rucking is actually like (in fact I've seen nothing of him at all) - can a first year rookie really jump the ruck queue like that?

It wouldn't surprise me if Clarke has jumped ahead of him in the pecking order. Connelly is still pretty skinny himself so it's not like he's got much of an edge in physical development... and Clarke seems to be the more talented of the two.

Yeah I agree would like to see all those guys play im surprised Haselby isn't getting a run through the middle maybe there saving him for the Bunbury game. I hope they rest Palmer next week I am very surprised he has been named I thought he would have had a week off due by now considering he is coming back from an injury.

Don't forget Mayne and Solomon.... both easily in our best 22.

Just a point on Tarrant there at Full Back, if he gets a bag kicked on him against one of the worst forward lines in the AFL the experiment is over for good I reckon.

Plus Connelly is on the rookie list, so he won't be available during the regular season.

With Clarke on the main list already as a developing ruckman there is no reason to elevate Brent either. There'd need to be injuries to at least 3 players before he'd be required.

I agree pistol.... if any of those duds kick any more than 3 on him i say he can be either permanently as a HF or on a wing... i know that if hansen kicked any on me i wouldnt be able to go out in public for atleast a month in shame

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well.

I understand that Clarke (being on the main list) is already ahead of the rookie listed players - I thought that would be all the more reason for the rookies (who have less 'tenure'/job security than main list draftees) to be trialled early in the pre-season, as the rookies will have fewer chances to play during the regular season, and are more likely to be under pressure to retain their spots come the end of the year.

I'm the last one to put pressure on any of our players, but I'd suggest that the realities of the draft rules, the salary cap and our rookie list mean that if BC doesn't play in the pre-season, and Sandipants and Clarke stay healthy (and don't do a Little Bobby Warnock and go awandering), BC might be under a fair bit of pressure to do very well in the WAFL.

Also, am I right in thinking it is BC's last year to be on the rookie list anyway? Sorry if there is a thread that already answers this, or if I've got it all round the wrong way...

BC played only a little bit of wafl last year mainly due to the garlic munchers having warnock and seaby for most of the season. i would think he would get a run in our last game of the preseason. i think the fact that cox is not playing would of decided this partly due to freo being more interested in kep/gilmore and sandi combo. clarkes mobility will probably be tested out around the ground. where as i think connolly mainly rucks and then goes forward. i think sandi will be playing this role for most of the game so its hard to fit another in that mould into the side. i'm not sure gilly will get a game either and if he does it will probably be alot more wing/hbf orientated. i am dissapointed my buddy is getting a run though but he is still a long term rookie project. is it 2 or 3 yrs max on the rookie list?

I think one of the main differences between Connelly and Clarke right now, is the ability to jump over a bigger body in the ruck contests. If you have seen Connelly in the flesh, he has an extremely long torso and very, very short legs for someone who is 202cm. Hence the comparisons to a baby giraffe!

Clarke at 203cm has very long legs and a shorter torso - he's more in proportion. While Connelly thus has a lower centre of gravity and may in the long run be harder to bring to ground, at this stage of their careers, Clarke has the leap that Connelly can't because of his short legs. Clarke offers more as a "early career" ruckman, because he can jump and run better...

I reckon if you stood 202cm Connelly next to 187cm Ibbo for example, you'd find their hips are in the same position and their legs are the same length...

Excuse my ignorance but are Deboer and Pearce both injured - I thought it was just Pearce? I ask because if Deboer is not injured, why isn't he getting a game?
