Steve Waugh's like the John Howard of cricket, looked great at the time but has left a shithouse legacy.
Steve Waugh began playing when the Windies were a force with Ambrose and co bouncing teams out and giving send offs. I've got no problem with the banter back then.
It got out of control with Ponting's team on occasion (see McGrath) when they couldn't get their own way. Clarke's team was horrible. So is Smith's. Warner is a rolled gold flog.

McGrath was as juvenile under Waugh as he was under Ponting; probably more so actually (Sarwan incident, yelling in Sachin's direction after dismissing him during an SCG Test).
In general, Waugh's team was not well behaved.
ThisI don't want him back, ever.
Don't care if other countries have pulled the same crap; we should set our own standards and unmitigated cheating is completely unacceptable.
Australian Cricket has been wallowing in its own holier-than-thou hubris for years, time to create a new culture, one that doesn't prioritize winning over fair play.
I'd be axing every single player involved in the planning and execution of this blatant act of cheating and installing a new captain; anything less is tantamount to condoning systemic cheating.
I wont stand by someone who thought they would get away with it and gave the deed to someone else to do.
Smith has no respect - yes there is ball tampering all the time but not premeditated like this
Smith, Lehmann, Bancroft and Warner should already of been let go. They should be copping life bans. As a proud Australian I am absolutely appalled by their actions. They should be ashamed of themselves. Any player who knew of this tampering and didn't say anything should also cop a 1 year ban. Many negatives, but one positive is that Lehmann will go, and we can now rebuild this team properly. It was never that good of a side anyway. Lets get back to basics and build a side of cricketers who play the game fairly.
McGrath and Brett Lee were horrific. The double standards re Rabada's actions and McGrath's and Lee's were laughable.
What I always found most galling was when under Clarke blokes like Siddle and Bollinger would pull the same stunts. You're an arsewhole whoever you are when you do it, but at least McGrath and Lee had earned a right to be an arseh*le.
When all the other countries start doing this we'll be sure to follow suit. The apologists makes me sick, you are simply condoning cheating by giving Smith a second chance
Nope he needs to be banned from international level along with the other involved. It may appear harsh but if you don’t go hard it gives others the opportunity to do it again in the future.
Where's Allan when you need him?Think there has been a massive over reaction and a lot of blokes throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Plenty of other countries have been involved with ball tampering incidents and their players have continued playing. The PC Police need to chill out. So who is with me?

Not really, koolaid is strong.Geez would absolutely suck to be an Essendon and Australia cricket supporter. Your heart would be ripped out twice.

Not even that, it's as simple as social media being so prevelant that everyone feels the need to voice an opinion and faux outrage.Simples - people liked Lilly and Marsh
Slats and Warnie will be rehearsing their lines already. Although their challenge will be slipping it into the stories we all know and cherish of them eating pizzas and doing bombs at hotel pools.I look forward to Channel 9 telling us how 'brave' he is next summer.
And producing Ball tampering memorabiliaI look forward to Channel 9 telling us how 'brave' he is next summer.
Laughable. We are all appalled by their actions but no one is going to be given a life ban for that. Lose the captaincy, suspended for a couple of tests and he will lose millions in sponsorship deals, as well as the humiliation he will face. That is well and truly enough.Smith, Lehmann, Bancroft and Warner should already of been let go. They should be copping life bans. As a proud Australian I am absolutely appalled by their actions.
