Surely at least 1 of them won't score 100 this year.
Last I heard from Kevin Taylor, "If no answer this time next week, I will ask again."
That was the middle of last week.
There has been some records/stats project for the AFL that may have
distracted Mr. Hutchinson who was going to look in the League minutes.
I know that all the goal umpires reports have not been kept and it would
only be in the League minutes if it had been controversial or disputed in some way.
The evidence suggests that the score was misreported in the Melbourne
morning papers.
The edition of the Australasian following the match (5/9/1914) may have more evidence if anyone is near a library that keeps it.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/24966824?q=Australasian&c=article
Have been to the reference library in Launceston this afternoon - I believe weight of evidence now in favour of 1914 1st Semi score being: South Melbourne 5.14 (44) d Geelong 5.7 (37).
The match report and qtr-by-qtr scores published in The Australasian issue of 12 Sept 1914 p586 show final score of 5.14 - 5.8
Two weeks later, the paper begin to publish a set of tabulated scores and mini-ladder for the "second round" [finals] matches and these reveal a different outcome.
The table shows Wins-Draws-Losses and Pts For & Pts Agst. The issue of 26 Sept page 699 shows Sth Melb's pts for and agst as 87-61, that is score vs Carlton 43-24 plus score vs Geelong 44-37. Geelong's pts for and agst in same list are shown as 37-44.
The next issue (3 Oct p759) again uses such a table for "second round" matches and it is updated to include the Carlton vs Sth Melb Grand Final score 45-39 thus showing Sth Melb's total pts for & agst as 126-106, and again Geelong's figures are given as 37-44.
The SM totals only work if the 1st Semi score is 44-37 [5.14 to 5.7] and given that is what was printed by some press outlets within days of the match, plus what I've described above, I think that is the score which should now be accepted.
What is the lowest ladder position held by a team who were the first to score 1000 points in a season? Can any team outdo North Melbourne, who are currently 11th?
I think that is the score which should now be accepted.
The Nathan Browns were a unique case, with all three being listed in 2007.
Once they've played a senior game, the AFL lists them with a middle initial, or gives a middle initial to the older player (e.g. Andrew J. Phillips b.1970). Then I update my database.
My master player list has 'official name' and 'display name' columns, e.g. Nick Justin Smith/Nick Smith, though I rarely bother with the display name these days.
Matthew Watson caused me some problems as it took a while to find out his middle initial (which is 'N') and my db was confusing him with the Matthew Watson from 1997 Essendon. He temporarily became 'Matthew Z. Watson' to me.
Occasionally they modify the player's first name, especially in cases where the more distinguished player was better known by the variation, e.g. Andy Collins (Ha), Andrew Collins (Ri).
There are others yet to debut - Luke Brown, Tom Campbell, Jamie Elliott.
Ah yes, the full stop. Not a very elegant solution.
With Jonathan Brown due to play his 100th game as captain of Brisbane Lions this weekend, who has played the most consecutive games as captain?
Couple from me. Last time a player kicked more than 14 goals across 2 consecutive games?
Last time Etihad had an AFL crowd above 50,000?

1. Ever been more than four 8-2 or better sides?
whats the least behinds a team has kicked in a game?? and least behinds for both teams...
Last person to kick 13 goals in a game? There's probably somewhere to find the answer on AFL Tables but I'm not great with queries
