Why is everyone saying it was a mistake to bring him today?

I don't understand it, thought he was in our small group of players that could be proud of themselves on todays game..

Thoughts on Steele's game?

I thought he showed real composure in a side that was generally lacking in that department. I don't think it was a mistake at all to bring him in. Of course you expect a couple of mistakes out of the kid, a first year player in his first final, but generally I thought he showed some excellent signs. Dropping him would be a mistake, in my view.

Maybe others saw it differently.

I have no qualms with how he played today, just his selection over harder bodied guys like Goldsack and Wellingham. I'd prefer him in the side next week as opposed to Ben Johnson, to be honest.

yeah I reckon he should definately keep his spot, was very cool under pressure today.

Well done Steele!

He was good, and very promising, and frankly had to play because his form demanded it.

J-Mac, on the other hand, should not have played in preference to Wellingham, as he doesn't have the fitness and needs a full pre-season before he can be a real contributor (which he will, I'm a big J-Mac fan).

The composure he showed today was beyond his years, a few more pre seasons in him and he will be an out and out gun.

Did anyone else see him on the half back flank in and amongst 2 or 3 saints and he spun out and evaded all 3 of them, he is already showing signs imo.
Keep him in next week!

Needed a bigger body I feel. There was a few contests where he was eaten. But he showed something today.

I can't wait until his frame is like that of say Leigh Montagna's.

I loved the fact he FINALLY was bought into the side after dragging the VFL side into the finals almost single handedly.

But I did question, even before the game, having Beams, Sidebottom and McCarthy in the one side for the first time.

We surely can't go in with all 3 next week, a Wellingham, Clarke or even Cook would be a better fit against the very physical Crows.

I can't really decide, but one of the 3 can not play next week, it was a risk that backfired, even though they are all a great part of our future.

Yeah I don't get the criticism either.

He was great today bar being outmarked once or twice.

He'll be a player when his body matures and he gains a bit more confidence and experience.

Some of his efforts were all class I thought.

Should keep his spot next week IMO.

Now I think we must play all three of Beams, Sidebottom and McCarthy; with Wellingham coming in for Pendlebury.

My tip is he'll have a Pendlebury type 2nd year.

By year 4 he'll be among our best 4-5 players.

I think Year 3 is more likely, won't be able to put on enough weight in one pre-season to hold his ground.

And I'm not sure about best 4-5, but his composure in traffic is clearly the best we've had since Pendles, bar maybe Cox.

First - NOT TROLLING

I liked most of Steele's game today, i thought he held himself well in contests and had a good go at the footy.
But what i didnt understand was why he was being played loose in defense in the last quarter? As far as i know he hasnt played like that at all has he? Farren Ray had a great opportunity to just get the ball and deliver it to the saints forwards. He didnt really look like he knew what to do, not getting into dangerous positions to stop the flow of the ball coming in.

he is young and raw. doesn't look like he weighs more than 65kg

he will be a terrific center for us in years to come. we need to be patient with Beams and Sidebottom. We won't win a flag until these two have 2-3 pre-seasons.

one of the few players who had clean hands on the day and obree's replacement in the midfield, and the way obree has been playing recently it will be sooner rather than later.obree last month has been shit
