Meanwhile all the Victorians did the same and still do the same about Cameron White. It is just the way things are..
All Victorians did and do, hey? Even those who think he shouldn't be in the Australian side at the moment, or those who hate him so much they started a thread entitled something like "how is Cameron White getting a game for Australia?"
I hope you're not that naive and ignorant to believe the generalised trash you just wrote.

Ha. That is ordinary, plenty of players pick up and swing the opposition player's bat, if you think there is something wrong with that, I don't really know what to say.

Ever seen anyone do it to Ponting, Hayden, the Waughs or any Aussie batsman when they've been struck? Would anyone do it to Tendulker, Gayle or KP? Of course not. You don't see at international level. The poor Canadian bloke copped one in the nuts from a Tait full toss & Smith was acting like it was an u14s match. A bit of respect for his opponent wouldn't have hurt.

Wow, who cares?

People who don't like particular sportsmen tend to pick up such little insignificant things and blow them out of proportion to make them look bad to the masses.

It's not working because nobody cares ;)

You're kidding yourself. I've seen it at all levels, if you're going to nit pick for shit like that you're scrapping the barrel. Fair enough Smith shouldn't be in the side but to lament him picking up the opposition player's bat, you're really clutching at straws.

I remember a time where one of our players did it to Tendulkar's bat as well so yes we have done it to him.

I've seen Oliver09 post in two threads on this board. One was to express hatred of Steve Waugh, now in the one to express hatred of Steve Smith. Just another chip on your shoulder Victorian it seems.

Smith decided to pick up his opponents bat & practice his forward defence at the batting crease. It was something you see at u14s level, not at a World Cup & seemed very patronising to me.

i don't know if i would say it's patronising but i must admit i noticed that and thought it was definately a tad odd... i dont think i've ever seen that at international level. maybe i was just watching too closely.

not really a big deal anyway.

It has nothing to do with NSW/Vic mate.

When Smith does something that contributes significantly to Australia winning a game of cricket, then maybe people might stop bagging him.

At the moment he is the golden boy getting a golden run while far better cricketers (James Hopes, Callum Ferguson, Brad Hodge, Aaron Finch, George Bailey, Andrew McDonald, Dave Hussey) miss out.

And you know why, don't you? He's marketable, which makes Cricket Australia cum in their pathetic pants.

Having not watched the Aus-Sri game, I logged onto the net in the morning and saw the headline "Steve Smith stars before rain strikes". Assumed he smacked a half century or took a bunch of wickets ... nope ... he fielded well :o

Hey, i'm very much in the group of people who dont think he should be in the side at present (he did alright in the one day series vs england), simply not ready. and someone like Christian would be a better option (not sure Dussey is, very much a 6 of one, half a dozen of another type decision).

I think it is very stupid to write him off as rubbish, as some seem to have, he's quite a talented player.

My reference at Oliver is because I have only seen him post in two threads, and the stuff he was bagging Smith over (when it was shown he's hardly on his own) was just utter pap, which makes me think Oliver09 himself is, well, a shithouse chip-on-his-shoulder poster

The Aus commentators and media are given to pumping up the tyres of any vaguely competent Aus player that appears. It's called desperation.

Steve Smith may grow into a good player at international level yet. He's been promoted very early so he is on a steep learning curve.

If we had even half-decent spin bowling stocks in this country, he wouldn't have looked so attractive to the selectors.

.

he's not vaguely competent...

barely bowls 3 overs a game in ODIs and doesn't bat or bowl in tests...

He didn't get a bowl last night because he tried to steal Punters catch against the Canadians. ;)

"Quite a taleneted player"!! That is not even remotely close enough to play for your Country in a world cup.

To be one of the best 11 players in a country of 22 Million I would suggest that a player MUST have: A huge amount of talent, consistently produced at lower levels, excels in his certain discipline of either batting, bowling or wicket keeping not be jut OK at a couple, knows how to conduct your self when representing your country and finally, being bloody mature enough to get your own date for the most formal players function of the year.

He should not be on the side or even squad.

Did you ****ing read just above that where I said he should not be in the side at present? Im not disputing this. Im just saying that, as much as he shouldnt be in the side at present, there is a reason he's viewed as an excellent prospect.

Doodlesweaver makes the best point. His inclusion is very much an indication of our very average spin stocks.

Yes I did read it and i yes I agree with you that he should not be in the side but when people write him of as rubbish they are writing of as rubbish as a top XI player. He is rubbish at that level... Blokes I have played sport with have a bit of talent as well but would be rubbish in an Australian world cup squad

Without Hauritz or Doherty I'd prefer Smith to be our sole spinner at present. Krejza promises everything and delivers nothing. Smith bowled decently enough over summer and always looks a chance of a wicket in the limited overs game spinning the ball away from the right hander, where he has a pretty fair bowling record. Won't be a world beating spinner but then again we don't have any and looks just as likely to get a wicket as Krejza.

To me, Hastings for Tait/Johnson, one to many genuine quicks in these conditions, Ferguson for Krejza and we must be getting close to D.Hussey for White, while acknowledging the latter was unfortunately run out last night. The bowling is better balanced and the batting becomes stronger.

I remember when Cameron White first came into the Australian set up. he was not performing but continued to be selected in the ODI format as a number 7 batsmen who never bowled. I think he played 50 odd games before he even looked comfortable. Steven Smith has talent, you may not see it but the best judges do so he will be persisted with. I don't think he belongs in the test team at the moment though.
